ORIGINAL: summerblossom Well of course you can say whatever you want. But your comment about 'if someone gets offended that is their problem' if you say something to someone without being thoughtful and not caring about how someone might feel about it, than that is just plain rude and mean. For example...have you ever seen the type of person that says 'hi how are you doing?' and by the time you open your mouth to answer they are halfway down the hallway and are turning the corner not even caring to hear your answer or how you feel? That is exactly the same thing, don't just say something to say it, especially if you want to say something with good intentions, say it thoughtfully with regard to the other person you are saying it too. And if you don't have good intentions, like you said, you basically don't care about how someone feels about it if they get offended, than don't say it at all. This happens all the time to me at work, it's not personal, usually it's just because they're trying to get through the freaking metal detectors and still manage to get to work on time. It's a greeting, not a therapy session. Accept the fact that when people say "hey how's it going?" or "Merry Christmas" they are intending to give a little kindness to those around them without taking on all your personal issues oh and by the way MERRY CHRISTMAS!
