Level--I really respect you for the sucess you've had.  I know very low carb plans work for some people.  For me i have found SB much easier to live with in the long run, but i know when i add in too many whole grains i struggle, so i need to control that better.  I also like the way SB keeps my blood sugars even throughout the day.  I am doing all i can to prevent diabetes since it runs in my family.

Bev--good luck with whichever plan you choose, please keep in mind it needs to be a lifetime commitment, not a short term diet or you will gain it back.

I am so glad to see this thread, I am really needing to get back on the "wagon" and seeing that others here are doing the same and are so enthusiastic about it and everyone offering their advice, tips, etc, etc... really helps!

I have also run all of my low carb recipes through nutritional anaylsis and will be happy to enclose that information with the recipes. MsBearlee, best of luck to you. Little to no carb diets don't work for everyone but then no plan does. Limited carb plans, for those without serious health issues who require little to no carb plans,
seem to be a better more live-able solution for the masses so to speak.
I wish you the best in your endeavour and don't look at it as a way to lose weight, but rather a way to be healthier. It is easier to stick to and keep with it long term if viewed in that light. Never use the word diet, it is such a failure word unless using it in other contexts. That word gives many the shivering shits, a feeling of never being allowed to have a ''cheat,'' and something that must be checked, counted, weighed and measured daily for life.

So MsBearlee, you're going to become more healthy in this new year eh?? [:D]

The reason high protein diets seem to work is that eating such foods reduces your overall appetite. There was a test conducted with fat people and a few thin people as controls.[8|]
They all eat less overall.

i was on the high protein low carb diet for four months a couple of years ago, i lost 40 pounds!  eating more protein made me feel full longer.
then my family and i went to Disney land and that blew it.  but i still try to eat very few carbs.
so far since last January, i have lost 50 pounds

Be aware of the risks because when you cut bits out of your diet there are risks, I forget what these risks are but I think one of them is pubic hair growing out of your tongue.

There is huge credible science out there on this subject and that is not why low to no carb plans work. Although that is a part of the reason it isn't the entire story. I will drag out the information and post it.

Duke and Stanford Universities have accomplished the bulk of studies on these low carb diets and most used the Atkins plan for the studies.

Low carb works because at a molecular level, your body need simple sugars to make energy (ATP).   If you're not taking in carbs (sugars, and starches that break down into sugars), your body burns long term energy (stored fat).   Because of this process, you'll lose weight, but don't be surprised if your energy level is low for a while.

However, this does not mean you can eat anything you want as long as it's low carb.   High fats (especially animal-based fats) are still bad for you, and an excess will still be stored as fat on your body.

Your best bet?   Eat plenty of lean meats (chicken, fish) and low carb veggies (especially salad greens except iceberg lettuce, brocolli, cauliflower, red bell peppers); limit your fat intake to recommended serving sizes of things like salad dressing, a teaspoon of olive oil to cook with, etc.   Avoid processed meats like bacon, sausage, deli meat.  A little milk for your coffee is better than heavy cream.  Fresh vegetables and lower carb fruits in their whole uncooked forms are the best  -  avoid canned, dried, or otherwise processed.  Frozen plain veggies are ok in a pinch (and handy).  

If you do chose to do Atkins....read the book, read the book, read the book.   Read the book.  Did I mention - read the book?  Most people who do Atkins do not, and miss a lot of necessary information, like steak once a week is ok but NOT every night.

Not true, unless you're eating excess carbs with them.

When did Dr Atkins say that? And he certainly would not have agreed with the statement about animal fats....

When you eat protien its harder to digest than carbs so your fuller longer it also takes more energy to digest it, also = more calories burned

Level, I’m a reader…you’ve given me several books to hunt for.  I love Amazon, where I can get ‘em half-priced (or better) used.  Such a deal!  Thank you so much!!!  Ah, and what you said about Dr. Agatston; makes sense; and perhaps for most people some grain, in moderation, is okay, huh?

I'd be happy to post some recipes here though I would need a vague idea as to what people are looking for. Thank you regarding my troubles though I go on. Two options to anyone's life; go on and live or give up. I suppose I was not one to throw in the towel.

So, why is it these diets 'get rid of belly-fat' first?  Because of the ketosis (sp?) thing?  Last place of deposit is the first place of loss? 
 
Okay...I'm off to eat scrambled eggs w/cheese (and a pinch of fresh chopped jalapeno).

i eat 30 to 50 grams of carbs a day and lift weights went from a 52 inch waist to 32 and still loosing

I can't answer that.  For me, i lost all over, but Hubby did lose his belly but that's where all His fat was.

I love to mix in all kinds of goodies with my eggs--some of my favorites are spinach, turkey pepperoni, feta cheese, mushrooms, Laughting Cow cheese, fresh basil, green onions, sun dried tomatoes, and kalamati olives.
