Thank you for sharing about your "hand signal" communication. My slave and I also use hand signals (mostly for small things ie sitting, joining me in bed, sexual use ,etc.) as well as verbal commands. I think it helps a lot with our focus, his and mine, Mindfulness as you call it. It allows us to be D/s in vanilla situations and keeps us aware of each other. I have found it to be a learning curve for us both. I never knew how distracting everyday things could be. In the beginning, rook (my slave) would politely stand waiting for his signal to sit,and I would just be "going about my business" so he would cough to get my attention....lol...poor boy. This has helped me to slow down,to be aware of everyone at the table.Sometimes I catch him too "forgetting himself " and sitting without permission or just climbing imto bed. A gentle reminder puts him right again. Our form of address is different too. rook must ask permission to call me by my name- " Permission to address you informally?". In vanilla company he refers to me as "Ma'am" or nothing (just catches my attention in other ways ) or by my proper name only if he MUST)-never uses an abreviated form or a nickname....WAY too familiar. We did this from the start ,to keep him very separate from the rest of my "world"...a uniqueness that sets him apart. A small thing really, but we have come to treasure it. When he does use my name it is a bit of a jolt. It sounds almost foreign, but it certainly gets my full attention...almost like a safe word (if we are not in a vanilla setting). He mostly uses it to convey a deep emotion or unsettling situation. As for his name, well I call him rook...even in vanilla settings. I explain it away as a pet name,so even vanilla folk are getting used to it. So here again ,the use of his given name carries a lot of weight when he heres it from me. I find these little things, along with other rituals, really help keep our minds in D/s and remind us of who we are to each other. Thank you again for sharing as I hope to add more hand signals to our communication. Ms Feral
