There's certainly not a right or wrong answer here. I believe it has to do with what works in your relationship. I would not dare question how he wants to be addressed.

I do not call my Owner by any title such as Sir,Master, or Lord on a regular basis. He would much prefer that His property call him byhis first name or even more standard nicknames. I too am in the SCA so titles such as Master or Lord hold a different meaning for me than those not involved in the SCA. Side note I have come across a great number of SCAdians on here. BDSM+ SCA = happiness! LOL

i have mostly used Master...that is what seems good for me and those i've served so far. when i have a new dominant, this might change, who knows.

I have a hard time with Sir--seems so cold and militaristic. When I was serving/being trained, I was allowed/required to use Master. Early on once I called him by his first name playfully and he stopped short and said, "Where did that come from?" From that point on, I just couldn't use his first name. Even once in a store I needed to get his attention and couldn't make myself call his name so I said Master fast and no one noticed. Today I was chatting with someone online and a few lines into the first (and only) conversation he started correcting me, demanding that I call him Sir. That felt premature to me and I said so, but he was insistent so I just said I had to run. I like to get to know someone before I start using honorifics. It changes things. I do like Lord, though. Have never used it but I hope that someday I will have occasion to.

i've never used Lord but, i think it would be weird to hear.....very old fashioned so to speak, i've always used Sir, or Master Sir with my both my current and prior partner(s) Master Sir brings out my most submissive state where Sir brings out the similar just not "all of me" so to speak. ~meticulous~

I've heard a lot about how Sir/Master sounds too formal or cold. I'd never heard of calling a Dom "Lord" before I started poking around CM and it seems strange to me. It feels very romantic to me. A Lord is someone that rules over many, is selfless and works for the people. Those are all good things, but to me it denotes a position of authority created to serve. Kind of like a doctor or a counselor. They're an authority in mental/physical health and usually the patient defers to their doctors/counselors recommendations but they are serving the patient. So it's somewhat more of a submissive feeling that I get from the word Lord. With my Master, I'm still getting used to the title master and can't quite decide what it means or feels like to me. Although I tend to use it more when farther into subspace. He has let me know that I should call him by whatever is most comfortable to me but I know that he likes being called Master and Sir and that makes me want to give him those titles. I usually call him Sir. To me it is both loving and showing respect. Respect is so extremely important to me. The strange thing is, despite the respect it conveys in my mind, it is more informal to me than calling him by his given name. A given name holds a lot of power in my mind and it is a privilege to use it... and I have no idea where that idea came from, it certainly wasn't taught to me growing up. So.. His given name is for very important conversations and when I want him to know how much I love and respect him. I don't know if it shows, but when I use his name I get a very strong feeling of respect for him and even go into subspace a little. I suppose it's that I feel very humble and honored to be allowed the privilege of calling him by his first name… ~puppy

Earning a title from one who honestly feels that the title is earned is more than important and really for me sums up what titles are about between intimate relationships.
