So, I dont like the word SIR, It bugs me, and I think I know why...
I was mainly raised by my grandpa, he (until he retired) was a USMC Drill Sgt. Whenever anyone called him Sir, be it at the store or anywhere else, he would always give the same stock reply (Don't call me Sir, I work for a livin) To me, Sir implies someone who is given respect, Master implies someone who demands it, and Lord implies someone who constantly strives for it... Now, I'm not sayin that If you are called SIR or Master you havent earned respect, not by any stretch.. Im just saying, that of the 3, I prefer Lord... Because it makes me think of someone who is constantly taking care of *his* people... And I like that image.... What are your thoughts?

For you??? sure :P

kallisto -> RE: Sir, Master, Lord (1/21/2008 2:03:27 PM)

There's certainly not a right or wrong answer here.  I believe it has to do with what works in your relationship.  I would not dare question how he wants to be addressed.

well thats an odd call i know in my relationship unless im doing any SCA related stuff MY dom is called M' Lord no matter what and all other doms that we respect and i address are addressed as Sir or M' Lord depending on if it is a sca event or not. master to me is something that i some times but not always call my dom and he is ok with it but i think for most people they have pet names that they call each other or a name that they prefer to be called no matter what.
What if They have thier AOA? :P

sweetsub1986 -> RE: Sir, Master, Lord (1/21/2008 2:46:06 PM)

I do not call my Owner by any title such as Sir,Master, or Lord on a regular basis.  He would much prefer that His property call him byhis first name or even more standard nicknames.  I too am in the SCA so titles such as Master or Lord hold a different meaning for me than those not involved in the SCA.  Side note I have come across a great number of SCAdians on here. BDSM+ SCA = happiness!  LOL

christine1 -> RE: Sir, Master, Lord (1/21/2008 3:14:20 PM)

i have mostly used Master...that is what seems good for me and those i've served so far.  when i have a new dominant, this might change, who knows.

For all those that are not properly informed, the true heirachy of Titles, set forth by Lord Cornelius at the 8th Grand Council of the Old Guard, goes as follows (in descending order)....

Mad
Lord
Master
Sir

Thank you. I hope all confusion has been removed and you will remember your place when addressing me

Ah, but "Grand Pooba" trumps them all as set forth by the Loyal Order of Water Buffaloes Lodge No. 26 from the Stone Age Guard. Unfortunately, the proper titles to use from the Loyal Order of Dinosaurs of the Mesozioc Guard was lost due to the mass extinction.

"Lord"...repulses this slave, primal-like.  she gets the same inner urge to fight or flight, whenever the Anglican Church is mentioned, Latin is said aloud or around anyone the Catholic/Anglican church has given any measure of authority.

"Sir"...is something deeply polite this slave was taught as a manner of respect for male elders and would be hard pressed to have that trained out of her (both parents were born and raised in Virginia).

"Master" is something with a deep connection---as one with Masonic heritage, the "Master" is the one who calls the shots, even if for a time, until he returns to the ranks from which He came...He has still earned that title of respect and responsibilty of leadership from His brethren for the proscribed period of time.  when He steps down, as is inevitable in their democracy, He is forever referred to as a "Past Master".  women can't aspire to the title, so there is no female counterpart.

in the relationship this slave is part of, He never demanded any use of any title...that was left up to this slave to discern.

most comfortable, and most fitting, for this slave, is "Master".

Damn Water Buffaloes!

I thought they had been all but forgotten!

Once again, my plans for supremacy thwarted...

sapphirepleasure -> RE: Sir, Master, Lord (1/21/2008 7:38:46 PM)

I have a hard time with Sir--seems so cold and militaristic.  When I was serving/being trained, I was allowed/required to use Master.  Early on once I called him by his first name playfully and he stopped short and said, "Where did that come from?"  From that point on, I just couldn't use his first name.  Even once in a store I needed to get his attention and couldn't make myself call his name so I said Master fast and no one noticed.

Today I was chatting with someone online and a few lines into the first (and only) conversation he started correcting me, demanding that I call him Sir.  That felt premature to me and I said so, but he was insistent so I just said I had to run.

I like to get to know someone before I start using honorifics.  It changes things.

I do like Lord, though.  Have never used it but I hope that someday I will have occasion to.

meticulousgirl -> RE: Sir, Master, Lord (1/21/2008 7:41:19 PM)

i've never used Lord but, i think it would be weird to hear.....very old fashioned so to speak, i've always used Sir, or Master Sir with my both my current and prior partner(s) Master Sir brings out my most submissive state where Sir brings out the similar just not "all of me" so to speak.

The Nine Hymns of cookie are
1. Ode to thine Baked goodness
2. Behold, the dough doth rise
3. I love thee softly
4. Chocolate Saviour
5. Nut in thine mixture
6. Chocolate chip, our King
7. Bless the goodness of our bakery
8. Grant thine warm, gooey goodness
9. Above, the cookies rules
Now you know, and can spread the gospel of St. Chip

I prefer that if I am lucky enough to be given any title that it is only used when the sub feels I have earned it.

ThistleDown -> RE: Sir, Master, Lord (1/21/2008 10:10:00 PM)

I've heard a lot about how Sir/Master sounds too formal or cold.
I'd never heard of calling a Dom "Lord" before I started poking around CM and it seems strange to me. It feels very romantic to me. A Lord is someone that rules over many, is selfless and works for the people. Those are all good things, but to me it denotes a position of authority created to serve. Kind of like a doctor or a counselor. They're an authority in mental/physical health and usually the patient defers to their doctors/counselors recommendations but they are serving the patient. So it's somewhat more of a submissive feeling that I get from the word Lord.

With my Master, I'm still getting used to the title master and can't quite decide what it means or feels like to me. Although I tend to use it more when farther into subspace. He has let me know that I should call him by whatever is most comfortable to me but I know that he likes being called Master and Sir and that makes me want to give him those titles.

I usually call him Sir. To me it is both loving and showing respect. Respect is so extremely important to me. The strange thing is, despite the respect it conveys in my mind, it is more informal to me than calling him by his given name. A given name holds a lot of power in my mind and it is a privilege to use it... and I have no idea where that idea came from, it certainly wasn't taught to me growing up.

So.. His given name is for very important conversations and when I want him to know how much I love and respect him. I don't know if it shows, but when I use his name I get a very strong feeling of respect for him and even go into subspace a little.  I suppose it's that I feel very humble and honored to be allowed the privilege of calling him by his first name…

I agree totally with you Asherdelampyr on that last statement.  Earning a title from one who honestly feels that the title is earned is more than important and really for me sums up what titles are about between intimate relationships.

Asherdelampyr -> RE: Sir, Master, Lord (1/22/2008 1:37:11 AM)

If your sub doesnt respect you, you are doing something wrong... By that I mean actually holding respect for you, not just acting respectful...
