DISCLAIMER:
The opinions stressed herein are the expressed opinions of Asher, Famed far and wide for having Opinions (and cookies) And should not ever be taken negatively (or with salt)

So, I dont like the word SIR, It bugs me, and I think I know why...
I was mainly raised by my grandpa, he (until he retired) was a USMC Drill Sgt. Whenever anyone called him Sir, be it at the store or anywhere else, he would always give the same stock reply (Don't call me Sir, I work for a livin) To me, Sir implies someone who is given respect, Master implies someone who demands it, and Lord implies someone who constantly strives for it... Now, I'm not sayin that If you are called SIR or Master you havent earned respect, not by any stretch.. Im just saying, that of the 3, I prefer Lord... Because it makes me think of someone who is constantly taking care of *his* people... And I like that image.... What are your thoughts?

"Lord" is, as one might guess, my favorite.

For me, it's about going your own direction and accepting people who follow.  It's less about the BDSM lifestyle and more about general social interaction.

On a seperate note, here in the South, "Sir" is a very blande word.  The guy who gives you your #1 combo meal from McDonald's is a "sir".  The guy who opens the door for you into a building, then the guy you pardon yourself from as you bump into him as stepping through the aforementioned door.  So, meh, it's one of those words I don't really see as actually having any meaning (for me).

"Master" sounds much more one-on-one-ish to me.  Since a Master is a Master to someone, not in general.

I'm digging ya...I don't think Master is all that bad a title. The disciples called Jesus Master. I'm with you about the Sir thing though...it feels cold to me....I have called my Master that, but its usually when I feel the need to REALLY convey respect or seriousness.(not that I don't normally)....oh hell I'm not sure how to explain it. I just don't like "Sir"....it just feels devoid of any emotion or intimacy to me...and that is NOT how the relationship Master and I have is.

A lot of Domme's go with "Goddess", but I never really see "God" around.  So.. who wants to be the first God?

Hell, we can all get pissy and have a flame fest in a thread titled, "War of the Gods", then make a movie based off of it to become rich.

Depends on the nature of the relationship. For my partners, I care less about the word than the intonation used. Respect is in how the word is delivered, not the word said. Personally, I find that requiring terminology such as sir/lord/whatever, can put undesirable emotional distance between the people involved. The only time I press for it's use is when I felt a line had been crossed and that the dynamic needed to be reasserted. My partners, even if they are junior, are still partners. Subordinates get to use titles.

I have to say with as little experience I have that lord sounds more personal to me.  Sir reminds me too much of a hard man who demands what he thinks he deserves (whether he deserves it or not).  I'm not so sure about master, having little experience in calling any man these titles I would probably pick lord over all of them.  But at the same time my head says isn't a lord a lord over many?  Although I do know that some men who are experienced in BDSM have more than one lady in their care? (<--what's the proper word for that?)  I'm so new at this all I know is a few things...

The dynamic can be classified as "poly", although I'm drawing blanks on a conventional term which refers exclusively to a Master with mulitple slaves.  ("Poly" is a more general term referring to non-monogamous relation or/and sexual set ups.)

For me, the control my Master has over me psychologically is an important aspect of our relationship.  Calling Him Master affirms that He is the one in control, moreso than calling Him Sir or Lord.  But that's just my way of thinking and it works for us.

Yes this is indeed on topic...

Not so long ago here in the Minnapolis/St. Paul Area we had an incident involving a gent whom went by the Internet ID: LeatherGod (not going to say where online). The incident came down to police reports of the person having contact with well over 100 persons and being arrested for murder (the body was still warm in the trunk). Reports inferred that others were missing too.

This very "mind set" is why I have avoided letting slaves call me God (and several petitioners have wanted to over the years). This is also why I ask slaves to call me Sir or Master during the petitioning process, and Sir if acquired. And PBK by anyone whom just wants to be friends.

(Religious Content)
As far as I know there is only one God in the universe (we may not all agree on what that god stands for). But the last I heard he/she/they/it had not delegated their obligations to a mortal or anyone else for that matter; and hence such I refuse to play god.

hmm....I have no trouble giving respect where respect is due, that being said my favorite people in the lifestyle, the three men, each with over 30 years experience  doing this thing that we do all have me address them by their first name...no 'Master", no Sir, no M'Lord..I think the truly great ones keep it real, and know you respect them without the bs titles...one even pokes fun at the posturing while at socials or demos (yes he gives demonstrations nation wide)-and we call him "LordRustyMasteroftheUniverse"...all in fun
