Sigh, collars are kinda a bone of contention between Master and I. We live in the curve of the crotch of the bible belt and while our choices in our life are our own to make an overly demonstrable/recognizable collar could be problematic. We have a rather broad soft leather collar that I wear at home, usually when we are ready to dance. But it is far from appropriate for visits to clients, dropping by his office or back and forthing on errands. Worse, a recent thyroid problem (multiple site goiter) has left my throat extremely sensitive to weight when lieing prone. Anything against my throat in that position causes near constant coughing. Finding something permanent that won't irritate my throat and can be worn in business situations hasn't been easy. We have a light chain necklace that I wear that to me is symbolic of who and what he is to me. He saw it, bought it and put it on me. It hasn't left my neck except when demanded by medical necessity. I also have the most precious of collars of all, the one around my heart, and the one on my ring finger. Black and white diamonds in a white gold setting. That to me symbolizes far more than any other piece of metal can or ever will. The heart of darkness (black diamonds) surrounded by cleansing light and love (white diamonds).

I have a Turian style collar.  It's about 8 ounces and Daddy opted for the magnetic clasp so I can take it off and on (w/ his permission).  I can wear it to my job without any questions....which is good because I am quiet about my lifestyle.

A collar can really be anything you want it to be, a bracelet a peircieng even,  if it's the symbol of you and your Master/Mistress(pick the best term that suites you best)  it can be pretty much anything. But I do hear you *s* I wear a fairly heavy chain ( we are not talking bycicle chain or anything *s*) collar with a small padlock on the back and  a tag with his name on it, pretty much all the time.  We both have keys to it and there are no set rules of when I can or can't take it off, it's something that when I wear it makes me feel closer to him when we are apart.

i too love my collar, it is discreet and though i am no longer owned, i still want to wear it.  had a hard time bringing myself to take it off......*sighs*  its put away now.  my former master allowed me to remove it sometimes for family functions becasue not everyone knows about me being a sub but 9 of 10 times i left it on anyway. i miss the feel of it on my neck.  made me "feel" owned.  i think i walked taller with more grace when i had it on.....sad to let it go....

I'm very fortunate that prior to purchasing a collar, I was asked to search the internet and find five examples of collars I loved. We settled on a wrist cuff from eternity collars that I never take off and another fun collar that goes around my neck for play time. Good luck to you.

camille65 -> RE: Do you like your collar? (1/26/2008 9:22:41 AM)

I am totally totally unable to decide just which one I want. Sigh. I kinda wish he would just up and choose for me but I was told to pick the one that felt right.(They all look like they would feel right lol).So I'm dragging my heels.

Shouldn't you BOTH like your collar?  Him for the look of it on you, you for the feel of it and how it fits into your outside life?  Even 'nilla couples go shopping together for rings, I don't think this should be any different.

collaredncontent -> RE: Do you like your collar? (1/26/2008 12:12:08 PM)

My collar for right now is just a simple chain bound by a padlock which my Master holds the keys to. The only problem I have is that the metal must be some kind of alloy that my skin is allergic to, but not so much that it is a major discomfort. A little lotion usually soothes it. One of these days when we can afford it I want one of those thick metal ones as well as ankle and wrist cuffs styled the same way. I don't mind being in public with my collar since it's subtle enough to either be kept out of view or not draw particular attention to it. I have to say I'm glad he chose the thick chain and a padlock, it's manly enough that I don't get strange looks.

We should, but we have VERY different styles... We've finally agreed to get an anklet or wrist cuffs in the style and thickness of the collar he wants... if I can deal with that around my neck great- if not we'll be discussing what to do about the collar situation... Hurray for small victories [:)]

I have a nickel allergy, and have even broken out from stainless silver - because of this my Sir got me a sterling silver collar that looks like a choker, that locks on with a screw. I have worn it continuously for a year now, and at times it does bother me - but certainly not enough to want to take it off. I love it and love the way it looks. It actually looks like jewelery, and I can hang pendants from it.  No-one has ever commented on it from the vanilla community.  I got used to wearing it very quickly, and most of the time don't think about it. And when I do, I think of him.

Poor Fox was made to take his collar off yesterday for the night, becasue he has a slight irritation on the back of his neck and I wanted him to give it a break. He acted as if I had kicked his favorite puppy.
Angel, on the other hand, dislikes his physical collar because it doesnt fit him well. He wears it when I ask him to, but it will never be a 24/7 collar for him like Fox's is. Thankfully, one doesnt HAVE to wear a physical reminder to be collared. I would prefer it, but he simply cant.  And I am alright with that for his rasons.  He has a small glass angel on his desk at home (was at school with him) and a dog tag on his keys that do the job for he and I.

Lil Bitch
My Princess
The Love of My Life

and its still on the keychain.

I like that anlagoy, it's very effect.

I dont yet have a collar from any Dom because I am uncollared, but I do wear my older brothers necklace while he is in Afghanistan  serving in the Canadian Armed Forces over there, and until he returns it will stay on. So its kinda the same I guess. And I love it.

Um kinda wow.. even 'nilla couples do it! ( I guess that means there is something wrong with R and I?)Firstly he lives in Texas and I am in Michigan, that makes a jaunt to the local jewelry store a tad difficult.Secondly he told me specifically to choose the one that felt the most 'right' to me.The outside life bit doesn't apply to me. I've narrowed it down to 3 different collars but since they are all online I cannot exactly try them on then decide. I won't infact wear the collar until he puts it around my neck later this winter but I am to have it in my possession before that time and before our 8 year anniversary. It is difficult to view things online and know how they would feel in RL, at least it is for me when it comes to something this important and this expensive. There is a lot of emotion wrapped up in this for me so I want it to really be the right one. As to 'nillas shopping together, I have known many many married people whose male partners went and bought the engagement ring on their own. Sort of so they can pull out the box and propose on one knee type thing. This is not a type of wedding ring for us, not in the least. He is my owner, not my husband. Hopefully by the end of today I will have made my choice [:D]

marajade -> RE: Do you like your collar? (1/30/2008 3:03:31 PM)

i love my collar. MM chose it Himself and it suits me down to the ground.
In a way it showed me that He does know me and my tastes and just how similar W/we are in style sense.
