While they are at it, why dont they start making blacks eat out back again... I dont think you should discriminate against any one. Refusing to serve a fat person will not keep them from eating. It will however make them depressed and eat more. And exactly what is "too fat" to eat at a resturant? BMI is an out dated index. Are they going to have a scale every one has to pony up to before they can order? Have you been to MS? I go there each year.. and I can tell you most folks would never past muster. Make resturants have healthy choices.. but refusing a segment of the population service is discrimination. Plain and simple. Here are the guys who introduced the bill: Republicans W. T. Mayhall Jr. and John Read, and Democrat Bobby Shows. They're responsible for it, not me :-) . They're obviously trying to publicise an issue - I doubt something like this would ever pass. The article actually says 'the bill (...) likely dead on arrival'. And how seriously do you take 'The Smoking Gun' as a source of information? PS: I hasten to add, before anybody labels me as a fattist, that I do NOT agree with such a bill.

The sad reality is that they are giving voice to the hatred of fat people that many people harbor. This is taking the "War on Obesity" and moving it to a "War on the Obese". I fully expect to see in the next few years many regulations to restrict and punish obese people. I won't be surprised to see some government somewhere subject them to execution. When you say that it won't happen, show me the laws protecting the rights of the obese?

I believe the constitution covered it quite well. We do not need more laws, just better enforcement of the laws already in place.

It isn't about why people are obese, it is the fact that they are obese and some people just don't want to have to look at obese people.

This is for real. There are people who wish they could close their eyes, open them and never see another obese person ever. Actually, they don't think of the obese as people anyway, just annoyances to be avoided and scorned.

I'm sure there are hundreds of eccentric bills being introduced each year. It's offensive, I agree, but as cyberdude and Tigresse said, the Constitution covers the rights of people - no matter their waistlines.

The MS legislature is unlikely to pass it, because I imagine (based on other state legislatures I've seen pictures of - and indeed our own Federal legislature), there will be too many members who would then be unable to eat at restaurants.
