Excellent point, Ron, and something that I think some people may miss.

The fact is that (and we have all meet someone like this) there are some people who:

1. Can't take no for an answer,
2. Will never acknowledge even the possibility that they might be in the wrong,
3. Will argue ad infinitum over whether or not the sky is dark blue or light blue.

This takes a toll on a moderator, because often, these are the people who take up most of their time.

It can breed a level of ... impatience ... on a moderators part, which might carry over into their communications with other (more normal?

) posters.

*shrugs*

I try to take that into account with any communications I have with the mods.

Great idea FirmHand! And something I think the mods should consider.
This would take away the 'it's personal' element of the chastisement, give a clear reason for the reprimand, and explain what actions are being taken.

I'm gonna disagree...yeah everybody has a bad day. And yet as posters it's expected by the admin and moderators of the forums that you still address eachother with respect and not send the types of things the said Mod has sent.

I got no problem admitting when I'm wrong. It's an entriely different matter when asking whre one has messed up to not get an answer...rather a "threat." And don't seriously expect the admin of the site to do anything or change anything either. Yeah they have feedback forms and they don't answer them.

And these are reasons why people will abandon collarme in mass as they have alt.com. The admin and mods are playing head games like a bunch of high school kids who think they're cool. I have money on the fact that the admin is not likely to address any of the complaints listed or mentioned in thsi thread and that before the end of the day there's gonna be more "warnings" or open censorship of the forums. And on a site that's supposed to be about open community and has the complaint of the average Joe shutting us down....to have that within the "communisty" is outright bullshit.

There I said it...now I'm gonna go wait for my slap on the wrist or some such.

the point is....there is no point. Mod XI can and will do as she pleases. whether you agree or disagree with that does not matter...:) I wish to continue posting, there fore I will think twice before I post. It is not a free speech issue , it is not about a free exchange of ideas. It is about a group of strangers talking about a common interest, paid for by someone who has their own thoughts on behavior. It shouldn't be so hard to understand.

Glad I caught this prior to changing your mind about posting the thought; "...this to me is the same as if .. you dont want to be a MOD ... dont complain about how they do their jobs."

I agree and would go further. I wouldn't want the job and know I couldn't do it for the reason pointed to by this quote; "If you don't notice the umpire, he's doing a good job. (~ Baseball saying).

There aren't as many "complaints" as there are observations. Enforcing the rules, even if they are moving targets or subject to personal interpretations such as 'obscenity' issues; makes it incumbent to be invisible. I know in my heart it would be impossible for me to be invisible. I believe that the personality profile of a person who becomes a 'Mod'; would include traits such as confidence, self assurance, and assertiveness. Those traits make usually go along with being noticed. The 'excellent pay and benefits' can't possibly make up for the frustration. And what else can you do but use the power associated with the job in those cases where you've already bitten through your tongue?

The bottom line remains and should always be a first consideration when observing or complaining. We are owed no explanation; just as we are owed no refund.

That's not quite true. I'm acting as an agent of the Galactic Overlords who own this site and If I was doing solely as I pleased, I would certainly hear from them. They don't take an active part in moderation of the forums, but they are always watching.

Quite honestly, I find it bizarre that people can claim they have no idea what they have done 'wrong'. It doesn't take two minutes to check to see which one of your own threads were pulled, or to scan your last dozen or so posts to see where you went wrong - claiming ignorance does not excuse stupidity nor does it negate responsibility.

Yeah Katy, I know, I was really responding to Mercs comment - just was easier to use his quote on your thread as a fast reply...

Saying that though, I have never, not once - recieved a mod spank without knowing the reason. XI has always told me directly - by either posting the offending part in the mail, or because the posts been pulled - case in point, the hijack thread - I just got spanked by her/him because of it. Do I have to agree that its been pulled, nope, but I gotta understand its happened and accept it because I obviously did something wrong, regardless of whether I think I did anything wrong or not. So I do question when people make a 'claim' that they are completely in the .dark. of their misdemeanor.
