[if you think that what goes on in this forum is intelligent debate, I would beg to differ. Once you are out in the real world involved in major business negotiations and actually having serious intellectual debates with intelligent and interesting people, then this forum chat is as important and deep as melting snowflakes.

Do you realize that with that statement you have insulted everyone who is on these boards?
i have only read a few f your posts and i see that most of them are geared to make people feel small so that you can feel big.
i'm guessing.

i apologize if i am wrong. Maybe i am and maybe no one else sees it that way, but me.

Synopsis for those of us, well me, who hasn't read the whole thread? Because I'm terribly busy and important.[:D]

synopsis: someone started a thread on whether women were born to be bitches and I had the utter gall to voice an opposing thought which was not directed at anyone.

then, the OP's friend came in and started bashing me while I was gone all day. then a friend of mine came in to my defense. then it all turned ugly, as it usually does on Collarme Highschool and the mod came in, but only to tell some people to grow up.

some people tried to exit gracefully, but the OP and her band of merry pranksters kept up the instigation.

clear now, Miss M?

God, I hope not!
It looks like Hillary may be our next presidentress.

meatcleaver -> RE: Are women born to be bitches? (2/6/2008 12:36:57 AM)

There was no need for 5 pages of this thread. The question was, are women born bitches?

The answer......YES!

Ask just about any man who hasn't got a thumbprint on his head.[8|]

MissMorrigan -> RE: Are women born to be bitches? (2/6/2008 3:36:15 AM)

It was not my intention to be aggressive, I sincerely apologise for seeming that way.

I also consider these boards light banter, although cannot fail to notice when opposing viewpoints are being put across that there's a tendency for comments to become heated, then reduced to remarks of a more personal nature and threads discussed rapidly dissolve into a melee of "the OP's friend came in and started bashing me while I was gone all day. then a friend of mine came in to my defense."  Expressing an opposing viewpoint is considerably different than the statement I quoted from you directly denotes, hence my territorial comment.  I used that quote from you today as it is a perfect illustration of my point on 'territorial behaviour' yesterday.

I happen to enjoy reading opposing viewpoints, provided both are put across respectfully and it's just sad to see when people that do have opposing views resort to playground tactics to discuss something which adults should be able to do without feeling personally slighted. You're an intelligent, articulate lady. You, personally, do not need defending on boards that you consider just 'light weight banter' and I would say the same to anyone else, Red. Now all I need to do is take my own advice [:D]

Now, that is where you are mistaken in your terminology. I am not "territorial" which would connote this to mean that I think I have territorial rights over the board, which I do not. If your definition of "territorial" means that one is not allowed to express a different opinion than the masses, then your definition and mine differ.

I also find it interesting that you are singleing me out for the aggressive words that have passed through this thread. If you took as much time to read through the thread and see that in this case, I simply stated an opposing viewpoint, which is my right and then, I was attacked for it.

But territorial about defending my place on these boards??? Are you serious? I have a place on any board I choose, I don't need any defending of that right.

And, just like I sometimes watch reality TV for entertainment, posting on these boards is a similar activity, ranking low in importance.

So hopefully I have clarified things a bit.

Then you can blame it on hormonal perimenopausal issues. I love excuses as to why I am always hot![:D]

lateralist1 -> RE: Are women born to be bitches? (2/6/2008 5:10:15 AM)

I blame it on my age as well lol.
However I couldn't do that until now.

LaTigresse -> RE: Are women born to be bitches? (2/6/2008 6:38:40 AM)

Using fast reply.......

With regard to maturity and self confidence versus, immaturity and the need to behave in a manner the thread subject implied........It is quite apparent that the thread has a few excellent examples of both.

With maturity and self acceptance comes a lessing of desire to abuse those that disagree with us. A lessening of taking opposing views personally. An understanding that our personal "right way" is not always everyone else's "right way". I also recognise that the immature behaviour might be a necessary path some need to take, unfortunate as it may be.

I've also come to one important realization in life. Those I would have bitchified ( I don't know if that is a real word but I like it anyway) on in the past, I tend to either ignore, or shake my head at. I don't NEED to try and humiliate them, they do such a good job all by themself. The result of that is, I do not feel bad about my behaviour later and they look like fools. Unfortunately they are usually so caught up in their battle they rarely realize what they are doing to themself. I can only hope that they lose their blinders and gain some insight and humility one day.

Some women are bitches, some women are super sensitive.  Maybe they are both born that way.

Just figure out why you act in such a manner and deal with it.

I try to only be a bitch to men [:D] .

How does a man justify being a bitch?

Perhaps they are. Certainly I would imagine that some personalities would be more prone to such. I personally place alot of the responsibility for the learned behaviours on the role models they had, mothers, teachers, grandmothers, etc. That being said, ultimately, we all have the ability to choose wether or not we continue learned negative behaviours or replace them with positive ones.

BlindDescent -> RE: Are women born to be bitches? (2/6/2008 7:16:13 AM)

Just a few passing thoughts...
I think a lot has to do with the social changes from tribes and interdependancy/collective support; to cities and the isolation of self/family units. When spending the majority of one's time on survival, there isn't nearly as much time left for negativity. Things were most likely far more direct. It was most likely more like a modified herd...a clear leader and clear consequences if you put the group at risk. Now we are a collection of individuals who compete for everything. It takes its toll over time. Grace and manners are often the first to fall.
If one ponder's things after feminism...yes a big shift in energy and power...at least perceived power. In a void where control is not clearly apparent; could bitchiness be the behavioral form that evolved when someone wanted to act like the boss but not really have the capacity to rise to the occaision? I think a lot has to do with clarity of : role, place, position, comparing, competition, and coveting. No matter how far one thinks we've come; we still operate under an ancient genetic primate code that kicks in at the most inopportune moments. Otherwise, just as some  embrace  life positively; there are certainly those who chose a negative path in their perceptions and social intercourse (both men or women).

I agree Miss Morrigan, thanks for your input.

CuriousLord -> RE: Are women born to be bitches? (2/6/2008 7:42:15 AM)

I hope you understand that you confuse me.  The catty nature, the passive-aggressive insults, sort of scratch-and-run-away things.. I don't understand why you live like this.  Labels aside  (as in you're not agreeing or accepting the label of "bitch" in answering).. why do you act in such a cat-like manner?

kittinSol -> RE: Are women born to be bitches? (2/6/2008 7:42:18 AM)

I think some people actually enjoy being bitchy, they find joy in malice, and my experience from the playground until now has shown me that some females are particularly apt at exercising bitchiness. So no, nobody's born bitchy, they become it.

There are all sorts of interesting combinations (examples: some are born bitchy, are limited, and remain bitchy ; some are born nice, are brought up bitchy, and remain bitchy; some are born bitchy, are intelligent and change; etc.) but I think the crucial example is the case of the person who knows they want to be bitchy to their peers and who indulge in female to female unpleasantness because they like it. It's sad, because such persons are hard to convince otherwise...

PS: CuriousLord, not all individuals get along. I disagree with 99% of your opinions, and you with mine. Perhaps you just rub me the wrong way at times... but all in all, I'm a kind and thoughtful but passionate individual with strong opinions, but I'm certainly not catty. Forgive me if that's how I come across to you.

LaTigresse -> RE: Are women born to be bitches? (2/6/2008 7:55:27 AM)

I think one of the keys to turning the tide on all of this sort of behaviour, regardless of being male or female, is to begin first looking for commonalities rather than our instinctual, kneejerk reaction of looking for points of contention.

I know kittin and I have disagreed on more than one occasion on at least one issue we both feel quite passionately about. However, I think we have both been able to agree to disagree and appreciate the woman behind the specific point of view.

The reality is that we will never find one person on this planet we will agree with 100% on every single issue. If so, it will be extremely rare. Yet we have a choice to handle those disagreements in a humane responsible manner or get sucked down into the gutter of slinging odious shit at one another, which only serves to widen the chasm.

Definitely - though I do admit it's difficult getting along with people whose opinions differ radically from mine. As a matter of fact, I feel so strongly about certain issues that I could never fall in love with someone who was pro-death penalty, for example. I just know it would be impossible for me.

Now, about the gender thing, I'll admit I have more affinities with women in real life, probably because we tend to share experiences (periods, boobs, motherhood, anyone :-) ? ) .
