Here is a good question: Many people that are fat, use an excuse that it is a medical condition, when in fact it is not. Doesn't this anger those that actually have medical conditions that make it more difficult to control their weight? I believe what Popeye is getting at, is that many people with weight problems want to point to a valid reason as to why they are overweight, when sometimes it is a lie or an excuse to just not work harder. I am 6'0", with a medium frame, and at one point I was 235 pounds. I had a non-active job at the time, and back injury that I used as an excuse to not do what I needed to do. I found that I could overcome those hurdles, by exerting more willpower than the obstacle I faced. Does anyone believe that maybe so many using invalid excuses, makes those that have a valid excuse be doubted? quote:

ORIGINAL: popeye1250 Nat, I know, there's always a heavy emphasis on "medical reasons". That's the "out", "it's not my fault" it's always some sort of "medical problem." Popeye, are you deliberately being obtuse? Taking the piss? Do you honestly believe that there are no valid medical reasons for being overweight, and that in all cases it is the fault of the person? Let me guess, you also believe that schizophrenia, depression, and other forms of mental illness couldn't possibly be due to chemical imbalances. quote:
I guess there's been an absolute explosion of thyroid problems in the last 30-50 years. How come we never had all these problems in the 1950's and 60's? Is it an epidemic? I have no idea what the reasons may be. I'd sure like to know though. I'd also love to know why there has been a huge increase in those with asthma over the years. [sarcasm]Perhaps those that have a form of exertion asthma should quit using medication and start doing more strenuous workouts to get their bodies in better shape. [/sarcasm] quote:
People should stop complaining and get up off their ample arses open the door and go for a walk! "But my hips hurt if I walk more than 500 feet." "I get out of breath when I walk." "But it's raining!" "But...." "But,..." "But,..." Now I know you're being obtuse. That or you really didn't bother reading what I wrote. I have mini gym at home with quite a few pieces of equipment. I worked out for a couple of hours a day, ate salads, and still gained weight due to my thyroid. Even at the height of my weight gain, I'd bet my left tit that if you and I were to go biking, hiking, running etc., that you couldn't have kept up with me, wouldn't have lasted as long as me, and were winded far before I was... and the next day, it wouldn't have been me that was sore from a strenuous workout.
