~fast reply to one in particular~

If you dislike the way someone looks, why not be adult enough to simply look away?  Why verbally humiliate or hurt someone simply because you are personally offended by their appearance?  Live and let live, why is that so damned hard for some to do?

Ever seen the reaction from an attention starved fat chick when you do something like that?

sweetwenchie, people ridicule and humiliate the overweight because they feel the need to feel "better" than someone else. this person is overweight, and I'm not. Therefore I'm better than they are, and I need to validate that by proving it to this fatty.

The same attitude prevails in many situations. I'm a better person because I can do this and the other person can't. So i have to let them know that I'm better. I've even had people ridicule me and try to humiliate me because I was better at something. I can't tell you how many kids in school called me "teacher's pet" because I got better grades. It didn't work with me because I wasn't interested in being popular; I was quite happy being a nerd.

The key is in being happy with who and what you are, and in having compassion for those who are apparently still seeking that sweet happiness.

i am just glad that people at public play parties have better manners and decorum than that.  There is always a wide variety of body types, and not once have i seen anyone treated diferently from another simply because they were large.

Wow, what a concept, humans acting humanely.

A nutrician instructor that I proctor for made this statment;

There can be a difference between being overweight and obese. One can be overweight and have nice muscle tone as well as no secondary  health issues. She used football players as an example.

I tend to agree with her on that comment because sometimes when people work out to lose weight, they seem to gain it due to muscle.

Yes i'm majorly overweight, but the only health issues I really have are asthma and fibromyalgia.

I would love to lose weight, I've been this way since I  had to spend all those months on prednisone.  Thing is, I'm active, hell I barrel race my horse. Even at the arena ya get those looks, "that fat girl shouldn't be riding"  I find that bigotry has no limitations when it comes to peoples disdain of people who are different then them.

Aubre, why not just smile at everyone?

Great point, but what I was saying is that so many people ignore or try to exclude overweight people from their worldview that you could ask someone to smile at everyone, and they would subconsciously exclude overweight people from their smiling.

Kalli, I'm sorry you've been a bit bashed on this post, but you had to know you what you were getting into.

SingleRarity,
Thanks for the support...Actually, i'm apparently not only repulsive looking but i'm stupid as well. Because in all honesty no, i had no idea what i was getting into...i really thought people were capable enough to lay their biasis aside and have a rational discussion....but, hey, won't be the last time i'm wrong today.

Orion, You asked:

"Here is a good question: Many people that are fat, use an excuse that it is a medical condition, when in fact it is not. Doesn't this anger those that actually have medical conditions that make it more difficult to control their weight?"

My question is- since when does a person need an excuse to be overweight?  Last I was aware, while some folks found it distasteful- it was not illegal, immoral, or otherwise prohibited.

Your right, people can be a fatass if they want to.

quote:

Since You had such issues being a "fat ass", I'm very glad You lost the weight so that now You are healthier and can feel better about the new and improved You.  However, what exactly do You get out of being "blunt" and peaching about gluttony?  You remind me a bit of a religious convert- the over zealous born again types that have to open the eyes of all those poor souls that have not yet seen the light.

Yeah the issues were mainly with health and the inability to be as active as I once was. If you do not see a problem with being obese, then there is not much anyone can say to correct that flaw.

quote:

Why does it matter to You if I'm fat?  Or any of the posters here is fat?  Why is it okay to be disrepectful of them?  Yes, opions are like backsides- we all have them.  Just not sure why people even feel they need to justify the reason they are overweight to anyone else- and why anyone else believes it's any of their business... unless, of course, they happen to have some vested interest in that individuals life.

Doesn't matter that much to me, I can respect someone saying "I want to be a fatass" alot more than I can someone giving lame excuses.

Be happy and be fat, if that is what sinks your boat.

How about if I scowl at everyone I pass. Would that be equitable behavior?

I would be nice if some of the non-fat folks would take the time, when you are going to and fro in your day, and you see a fat person coming your way that you don't know - give them a smile. Or at least look at them the same way you look at other people. If you have a fat friend. let them know that you care.

How can people who are large be treated as if they were invisible?

FR to the thread topic question.
I am not obsessed with weight - mine or anyone else's. But I am left to wonder about the disparity between the obese person going up to the buffet bar for their third heaped plateful, and the knowledge that right at that moment someone else on the face of this planet died from starvation. If only we were half as interested in the plight of the latter.......

Now i am going to have to find out what percentage of men have perfect bodies.

Well, sweetwenchie, that depends on what the definition of "perfection" is, and who is doing the judging.
