Submission is obedience. Obedience is surrender. Surrender is a choice. Choice requires thought.

Without the ability to choose, where can there be submission?

Well said!  i was going to post something of the same thought but you said it so much better than i could.  Thanks!

well many people agree with the question...lol

but is some one going to answer it?

Rhetorical questions normally don't require answers.  The dictonary defines submission as yeilding to the authority of another.  This require conscious thought to recognize the authority in the first place.  Yeilding is a verb and since other than reflexes our actions require a decision, i can safely conclude that submission is a choice.  Even if someon put a gun to my head and demanded my money, i would have a choice to submit or not.  In the case of someone having sex with someone in a coma, the coma patient did not make a choice...so it cannot be construed as submission.

Anyone who owns cats knows that ownership alone does not produce submission.

rhetorical questions are weird things....I know the purpose of the poster and what it meant...but when peopel starting to say  I agree...then I am curious...if they really mean the same.
rhetorical questions are dangerous...because no one answers...so you never know what one thinks...and the poster...thinks they agree

oh well... soemtimes I focus a bit to much  lol

thank you for explaining your view

ps: rhetorical questions are often used when some one things he is right..  like my boss does..and when I have an otherpoint of view...he suddenly says...uh..that was a rhetorical question..lol. So in general  ....when a question is asked..expect an answer when people are around :P

I will stab at this question...:0)..Wether one wants or does not want to make choices in life...one still finds themselves making choices anyway, wether they are consciously made or not...so hence the ability to choose is always within any human, wether desired or not...wether intelligient or not...wether independant or not..so there can be submission, because there is no such thing as the INABILITY to choose..(but please lets not have the obvious exceptions to such a rule as  a person in a coma or what have you)......Tempting

Are the ability and desire for independant thought and decision-making admirable traits in a submissive?

Absolutely...at least for me. I wouldn't want a submissive who wasn't first a strong, intelligent person. Fortunately, the submissive I am developing a relationship with has those qualities and many others that are oh-so desirable.

If you choose not to decide you still have made a choice, is that it?
