Im still trying to understand why the US gnashes their teeth because they think Castro tortured people in Cuba, when the US is actively torturing people there. The answer to your question is simple – human nature. It is part of our tribal heritage that we get outraged over injury to our own while paying no attention to (or paying lip service, or actively cheering on) the injury of others – especially if those others are perceived as enemies. We are biased in favor of our tribe. Part and parcel of this is the "if you’re not with us your against us" mentality. This attribute of human nature infuses our history (it also infuses, in varying level of degrees, every strata of human society and relationships). I make no claims to being immune to human nature – I have my passionate viewpoints – but I do try to look at things dispassionately as well. It is from this perspective that I view this situation. Castro is a gross violator of human rights. I see no reason why he should not be held in as much contempt as any other gros violator of human rights.
