personally i am confronted with this text day in and day out. and in my jaded opinion i think it is the biggest work of fiction ever published. but then again it is just me

It shouldn't be rewritten. There are too many different sects that rely on it to decide on how to rewrite it. On the other hand, I think it's safe to say that it should be ignored...so it's sort of a moot point.

The Bible is missing quite a bit of information. Mary, the very Mother of Jesus, wrote a book for the Bible, where is it? I would like to read that. I am not sure that God Himself would feel the Bible is really the tell-all, not needing editing or rewriting book that it is held up to be. It was written by a bunch of men, not God Himself. I am not saying there is not hoards of amazing things in there, there certainly is. I would also add that it is flooded with a bunch of superstitious, unevolved, guilt-ridden-point-of-view-taking slants that have basically nothing to do with the word of God. I do believe that the Bible is not the last word written by the Big Guy. I think God can have another book written any time He would like.

God is all powerful. God created everything. God created you. God want’s you to be nice to everybody. If you’re not nice to everybody God will burn you in agony forever (but God gave you free will, so it’s entirely your choice – no pressure). But we haven’t been nice to everybody. This pissed God off so bad that he killed his son. But his son magically came back to life and asked God to give everyone a second chance. God agreed but still plans to burn you in agony forever if you don’t believe. Now here comes the collection plate, please give generously because the Priest needs a new Volvo. There. Vittually all gods came from the same root, the egyptians. Just like luther various splits along the way. Its amazing how the sun god and the god of darkness evolved into what it is today. yes I said virtually ALL religions. The moral of the story is that if man did not have a god they would create one.

The thing is, anybody can take the texts and put them back in their original context. I don't understand why there's such a hue and cry from Bible lovers at the suggestion someone rewrites "the Bible" - nobody will take their book away from them: it just means a new one will come out. What's wrong with that? Am I missin' sumfin'?

actually, the Bible has been rewritten for our day and time... the Scriptures we read today are not in the same language as they were origionally written. there are revised versions of the Bible that help people better understand while they read... i believe (through European history), that the Bible has not been changed to include/exclude anything. Christianity has stayed strong for many decades and it will stay strong until the end of time... one thing is for sure... no matter ones faith, we all believe in some sort of God!

Kittin, I think we are missing something. I seem to miss that same something quite frequently and I've come to the conclusion that I don't particularly mind.
