ORIGINAL: GothicTopHat Wow, so Wikipedia is *the* source for subculture-specific definitions? "Boi" is a fairly common term in the goth community, predominantly used by girls, but also reflexively by "bois", to refer to male goths who tend to have/demonstrate a feminine side, however manifested, or as a term of endearment to be differentiated from "boy" which tends to connote immaturity. For instance, the word "fag" hardly has a universal meaning -- it means one thing in the gay community and another thing in the British cancer stick community. In fact, this is the first time I've heard that "boi" has a different meaning in the gay community. BTW, the French word is pronounced, roughly, "bwah", as in the "Bwah zsahk", ("Bois Jacque"), the woods the 101st Airborne defended in the Battle of the Bulge during WWII. This makes Me a bit curious. I seriously do not want to hijack this thread, as I think it is a rather good one, but as you cited by example, are these not two different areas? Is the goth community not a different one from BDSM? Though I fully agree that some are members of both, I don't see them as one and the same. I think the term being referenced was in the context of the BDSM community, and the correct definition applies.
