If the debate continues after someone calls the non-pc person racist, it is as if the non-pc person agrees with that label... People are terrified of words because words are so powerful; reactionnary thinkers have been bashing at progress by calling its language "Politically Correct" in an effort to ridicule and belittle its efforts to improve society for decades. To cry "PC brigade" as soon as someone is accused of racism because the have made a racist statement is nothing short of pathetic. People should take responsibility for the things they say. If you're going to say something I think is racist, I'm not going to hold back from judging you as being so. Logical, really *shrug*. Yes, words are very powerful. And calling someone or something they said racist equally so. The reason I said pc is because in America we have a double standard; anyone who is non-white feels free to comment on race and racial issues; if you are white, and you voice an opinion (and I'm not talking about calling people names, which also has the same double standard btw) and even mention someone else's race in the discussion such as 'blacks are being given better and more opportunities for advanced education, not due to having better grades or earning higher scores, but simply due to the colour of their skin, and I find it insulting to black people and unfair to whites'. Someone will call me a racist. I know what is in my heart, and I am not a racist. I believe in equality for all, this also means that we *all* should be able, as adults to discuss issues such as I just mentioned without the stigma of being labeled a racist. And btw...absolutely what happened to black people in the beginning of this nation is appalling and unconscieonable. But...I have *no* control over that, and can do nothing to change it. The only time I live in is now. And I'd like to open up a dialogue between all races, where people are free to speak calmly and maturely about the issues that we face today. That would be a beautiful thing.
