I prefer proper English.

As far as Ownership? You need to know where the boundaries lie. Mine lie at the point where my personal integrity and convictions will be compromised by keeping someone as property.

If you cannot walk away at that point-you are the posessed.

My submissive is my life partner. Plain and simple, I am dominant, she is submissive. She refers to me as her Mistress, but doesn't call me Mistress. She is my equal on many levels, and even far above me on others, but I am the dominant. It is who I am and who she is. There is no "ownership", but a strong emotional bond that is developing and growing with me as dominant and her as submissive...Right Stella??? (my first post)

I try never to over think those things.  He was he.  I was I.  Together we were we.  Our dynamic did not change because of capitalization.  I was not less of who I needed to be with him because I forgot to change pronouns.  For me, using tricks to keep me in a mindset would only make me see our relationship as a game to be played.  It was just life.

Greetings all,

I prefer to speak in third - SJ doesn't care for it so I don't use it.  Before we got together, I used it almost exclusively for any written communication with anyone in the lifestyle.

SJ prefers standard English in its proper usage.  So I do my best.  He prefers the phrase "the one I serve" to "my Master" if I am writing something where I feel the need to designate our roles - though for the most part its pretty obvious...

I never think of myself as owning any part of him and thus I tend to avoid phrases that convey a possessive meaning.

well wishes ~ fairer than she

The quote on my sig line says it all about my opinion on this matter.  The collars I placed around my boys necks mark me as theirs as well... their owner. I am very much Fox's Owner, I am Angel's Mommy. Thier being property does not change the fact that the have an owner.  I they did not possess an owner, thwy would be uncollared and searching again. I am not owned, make no mistake. They are still possessive of me as a child is of their mother, a pet is of their owner and handler and in Fox's case as any man would be of his intended bride. The submissive mindset doesnot make one less human and open to emotions and such.

Using FR..........

I was thinking about this thread and I've come to the conclusion that it is kind of like saying "my cat". AKA "the cat that owns me".

At OP

it is just a word game. If you know how your relation works, then who cares about such details.

i also attempt to be able to live without personal pronouns in regards to this person ('me', 'myself', 'my', 'mine').

Greetings fox,

this slave also endeavors to eliminate the personal pronouns "me", "mine", "my" or "I", but not because of her own personal beliefs.

she does it, 100% because it pleases Master.  this slave had never done it or thought about doing it before meeting Him a little over 5 years ago.  it is just as much a requirement to being Master's slave as telling the truth, or anything else that He required.

this slave had no idea that so many folks, especially here at CM, denigrate the practice, insulting those that use it as a form of communication, either blatantly outright or through passive-agressive snarky comments.

if, bychance, you are lacking a feeling of public humiliation, posting to these message boards in third person, especially by way of encouraging others to use this tool, and then taking the negative comments to heart is a good way to get your fix.

welcome to CM!

should the possessed learn  in speech and written word to identify themselves always as property? most subs write about themselves in lower case, their Partner is addressed in upper case, all contrary to the principles of written english language,  most Dom/mes do the reverse.  so here we have already a start.

have i gone so far down the lane, have i gone too far?

It's all just a matter of semantics to me.  For you to say that 'most' subs/doms do *anything* is going to be inherently incorrect because each relationship is different, and there's no way you know what 'most' of anyone does!

So ... that being said, I refer to my Dominant as 'my Owner' and 'my Master' quite often in texts and emails and im's with him... just like he refers to me as his girl, his slave, his slut, whatever.  The only two words I capitalize when speaking with him or about him are Owner and Master - I feel these are his titles and capitalize as such.  I do not capitalize pronouns.  I do not use a lower-case 'i' when referring to myself.  I occasionally don't capitalize my first name but that's just a preference on my part.  Master does both with my name, upper and lower case - no general rule.  We never do the slashy thing.  I'm a grammar geek and that's a hard limit.

Welcome to the fora, Fox!

Reading third person speech can be difficult. There was a post some days ago where this occurred. The third in the relationship wasn't clear, and people assumed the third person referred to was her and not the other female in the relationship.

I am not interested in having to decode other people's posts. I'm also not interested in having to try to figure out if someone is being snarky or humorous. That's why there are emoticons, to make communication easier. If you want to communicate, you shouldn't put up roadblocks that cause people to misunderstand you.

I'm also curious as to how the third person, no personal pronouns types deal with the outside world. If your mother asks if you're coming to Thanksgiving, do you really answer "this girl will need to ask the one she has the honor to belong to" as opposed to saying "I'm not sure, we haven't discussed it yet. Let me get back to you".

I honestly don't pay that much attention to online societal guidelines.  The whole H/him, H/her, M/me, U/us, thing looks like poor English to me and since I'm usually multi tasking between the site and homework it could get confusing.

Wonder what your professors would think if you mess up and started writing your papers in the H\he T/they  format or in third person  hehe

sorry the idea just came to mind as funny *S*

Only time i did third person was when I was studying Gorean.  I have a gf that got so used to it she does fall into it at work and such at times. She gets embarrassed, I think  it's funny but then again i'm kinda twisted that way.

"We haven't discussed it yet, can we get back to you later?" works just as well.

I would most likely get a perverse giggle out of it unless of course points were taken off due to the error.

I once wrote a short D/d story for creative writing, found in my blog.  We were supposed to read them out loud my professor gave me an A after making me promise to not read mine. lol

I find the You/you thing very difficult to read .. I understand that some insist on it for their property so I respect it .. but in truth I often skip their posts and am sure that I miss some delightful posts because of it ...

I have incurable untreatable noncontagious typo-itis .. so my not using capitals etc are a by product of my " disease" .. not a protocal..... lol ....

I have become very lazy about punctuation online over the years so thank the Goddess that most people read tyopese...

Somehow, this confuses me a bit.

The genitive simply conveys a relationship, not necessarily possession.

Compare "my hair-dresser" vs. "the one who does the hair on the head of the property of the one I serve."

Neither phrase seems to convey a possessive meaning to me, although the latter example could certainly be seen as being possessive of my time and sanity.

Health,
al-Aswad.

WHen I think of it...my MAster is not wrong  is it. "my MAster" equals "the one owning me"
(like my teacher, the one that teaches you at school, still you don't own him)
