dollparts85 -> Is there any way to stop carb cravings? (3/18/2008 6:19:13 AM)

I am TRYING to keep my carb intake as low as possible...but God, when I restrict carbs, I end up craving them so bad. I had less than 12 g of carbs yesterday (not sure how much less, the serving size of each was less than one g of carb and I had 12.) And now this morning (it's only a little after9 am) I've already had a yogurt (14 carbs) and 5 raspberries and some broccoli. UGH...and I'm STILL starving...I want pizza...mmmmmmmmmm I love pizza...LOL how do I make it stop?! It's driving me insane...

oh and btw, I am not attempting to go into ketosis...I know it is bad for my kidneys...generally I do get more than 20 g of carbs per day.

Yeah, pig out on carbs! That was easy. Next?

hehe any way that will not result in me gaining 10 pounds in 24 hours? [;)]

you're setting yourself up to fail if you're restricting yourself that much....don't kill yourself, and carbs aren't the worst things in the world for you, just choose the whole grain, healthy kind.  eat a little bit of protien throughout the day, it helps you stay feeling full.

you're craving pizza?  thanks to sunshine, i'm craving a big bloody rare steak and a baked potato the size of a football loaded with butter and sour cream, fuck the brocolli!  sorry, got a little carried away there for a minute.

I eat A LOT of protein...yesterday I had 96 g of protein.

That's one of the most deviant things I've ever read on these forums [:D] .

Take this for what it worth. After being on Weight Watchers for some time now, the main thing i can offer from that program boils down to two main points.

1. aim for a healthy ballance in Your eating, its not going to help if You just end up with these cravings on a regular basis. So eat smart and healthy.

2. Diets, at least in general, don't work. Try to adjust Your lifestyle as it relates to food and eating. Not easy, but also not impossible. After a while, how You think of food will change, and that will help keep things under control.

i won't recomend Weight Watchers, only because i know not every program is right for all. Feel free to ask me any questions though, i will be glad to answer as best i can.

You can try a controlled "pig out" (i can't believe i said that...controlled pig out...sheeeesh)

But remember...if you are facing possible renal failure excessive amouts of protein will give a false positive in a blood test. You have a nutrition specialist...talk to him/her.

my nutritionist wants me to get 120 g of protein a day.

sirsholly -> RE: Is there any way to stop carb cravings? (3/18/2008 6:39:37 AM)

when I don't eat enough protein, I lose muscle mass fast. I lost a pound of muscle mass in the past week...plus two pounds of body fat hehe

Ketosis will not harm your kidneys. Or your heart, or your brain, etc, etc.

As holly said, large amounts of protein, if you ALREADY HAVE damaged kidneys, MAY further weaken them. But, even then, I'm seeing some docs that are beginning to disagree with that.

Carb cravings affect different people in different ways. You may never get rid of the cravings, but usually, if you stay on a low carb diet for a few months, they'll pass.

And, carbs are carbs..... once they go into your body, they turn to sugar.

Yes, anytime you feel carbo craves comming on go out and take a good brisk walk for two miles!
Works every time.

Level,
I have heard the debate over a high protein intake with existing renal failure. One thing they do agree on is a high protein intake will alter the Creatinine level, abit on a temporary basis, making it look as if the patient has lost more kidney function.
