Got the red cape so why stop now...lol.

Red? I think that dark gold would be more complimentary with your coloring. [:D] And from the movie 'Underdog'.... There's no need to worry!Underdog is furry!!(that just makes me giggle)

So...you would rather I just keep gaining weight? Before they increased my thyroid pill, I had my metabolic rate tested and I was only burning 500 calories a day...instead of the 2100 I should have been burning.

That is because the thyroid responds to diet. When the diet lacks certain necessary substances the whole metabolism is adapted in such a way as to extract any such substance from the food completely and to use them as economically as possible. You starved yourself and consequently to keep you alive the activity of your thyroid was set to a much lower level. Perchance even your intestines have grown to get as much nourishment from what little you ate as possible.

Stop being afraid of food and weight. You appear to have no chronic diseases such as virusses, so in principle there is nothing wrong with your body. The only problem is that your thyroid needs to be jumpstarted again.  I have no certain way to do that, but I have indicated some hypothetical possibilities, including a spiritual one. I would recommend eating a normal diet including a normal amount of carbonates and to try to recalibrate your thyroid by ice cold baths or exercising in a cold room - but do this under the guidance of a physician and a biochemist and perchance a sports physician. Get in contact with someone who specializes in arctic physiology and consult him or her.

yeah...it's really difficult to stop. I'm doing pretty well though. [:)] I see my regular therapist every two weeks or so and my eating disorders nutritionist every week.

MissIsis -> RE: I have been asked to post a weeks worth of what I eat... (3/19/2008 6:41:13 AM)

I was hospitalized for an eating disorder years ago & I also have fibromyalgia.  Some days it is a battle still, but I always come back to what has worked for me in the past, walking & actually eating enough food that is nutritious.  I understand that sometimes it is hard.  I really have to work hard at pushing myself sometimes to do what is healthy for me.  Writing down what you are eating is a great tool.   Is there a place you could put notes next to what you ate, (just for you to see), as to how you were feeling when you may have eaten something that you don't feel was the best food choice?

According to the USDA Food Pyramid, we should be eating:
2-3 servings of milk, yogurt & cheese
3-5 servings of veggies
2-3 servings of meat, poultry, fish, dry beans, eggs, & nuts
2-4 servings of Fruit
6-11 servings of Bread, Cereal, Rice & Pasta

I am not suggesting you try to eat all of these, but your diet is very short on these items.  Fresh veggies are very low in calories, & very high in nutritional value.

I am not sure what your stomach can handle, but maybe there is some way you can incorporate a little more of the lower caloric items into your diet.

I am losing weight right now, by just adding fresh veggies either in salad, or cut-up celery, carrots, ect & using a dip.  I am finding that by adding a small amount of fat into my daily diet, I am less hungry, & food cravings have been minimized.  I make a healthier butter by mixing about butter with a 1/4 proportion of good olive oil for toast in the morning.

Whole Grains like Brown Rice, & regular slow cooked oatmeal can be very filling, & can be a gentle way to add fiber to your day.

Also, the walking is effectively helping with boosting my metabolism.  I add strength training with the walking by using a stretchy band for my upper body while walking.

Whatever you choose, good luck to you.  I am very glad you are getting help from your nutritionist & doctors.  A good support system is great to have.

Texancutie sounds as if she is VERY well informed about her condition. I have had the experience that a well educated patient can leave the average layman in the dust, knowledge wise.

She may know a bit about her own condition of Hashimoto's, but she does not know anything about the condition of dollparts85, which is not Hashimoto. So she is very much the layman, whereas I do have pertinent knowledge.

dollparts85 -> RE: I have been asked to post a weeks worth of what I eat... (3/19/2008 6:46:02 AM)

the only problem is that when I eat a lot of veggies, I get full...and then I don't have room for protein LOL and I need to try to get as much protein as possible. At least thats what my nutritionist says.

I bought some quinoa flakes (kinda like oatmeal, but from quinoa, so it's a complete protein) a few weeks ago...but I haven't tried them yet. I've been meaning to...I may later, if I start feeling better. I've been really nauseous since I ate my yogurt this morning.

texancutie2 -> RE: I have been asked to post a weeks worth of what I eat... (3/19/2008 6:46:02 AM)

I didn't know your doctor was posting....lol.  Well he said he had pertinent info.

cjenny I really like your Underdog quote better...it is cute!

It is not that simple, Rule. Why...knock it off...stop puking...and all the other things one might say to an eating disorders patient are just words.
Therapy...and sometimes a lifetime of therapy, are needed.

I realize that it is not that simple, as there are tens of millions op people with that problem. Nevertheless treating the symptoms only will only attribute to the derailment of her body. The bulimia is at the root of her problems and the bulimia itself has a cause as well - most likely fear or a lack of selfconfidence (are you a slave, dollparts85?) Hm, that may be it.

When the cause of the bulimia is taken away she has got a chance to get her biochemistry, body and life back on track.

then why did you google?

dollparts85 -> RE: I have been asked to post a weeks worth of what I eat... (3/19/2008 6:50:47 AM)

The cause of my bulimia is PTSD and severe anxiety...binging and purging helps reduce my anxiety level.

Rule...the symptoms must, must be treated to keep the patient alive while the core issue is dealt with.

I would think that if one has written chapters on chronic diseases of the thyroid....one wouldn't have to do a google search.  But who knows maybe he kinda forgot what what he wrote.  I know I forgot who the heroine ended up with in that novel I wrote about hypothyroidism.  I was wearing my red cape for inspiration that day too.  [8D]

MissIsis, not to hijack here...but was it ever suggested there may be a connection between the fibromyalgia and the eating disorder?

dollparts85 -> RE: I have been asked to post a weeks worth of what I eat... (3/19/2008 6:59:38 AM)

I know that fibromyalgia is common in those with hypothyroidism. And hypothyroidism is common in those with eating disorders. So I guess that would be a connection?

You would have said something, mentioned some symptom, that indicated to me that you might have Hashimoto's. But you did not.

Look this whole Hashimoto's idea did not exist in relation to you until someone who suffers from this disease, a lay person without any knowledge about you at all and no knowledge of biochemistry whatsoever, started to project her issues on you. It is like a mirage view in the desert.

Go to your physician and ask him to test for Hashimoto's (he will then refer you to a hospital or clinic, I suppose). Most likely he will refuse, but if he does not, you will know one way or the other.

Sounds like a great way to do it MissIsis.  I was wondering how to combat my craving for carbs.  Thanks for the tip.  I try to use whole grains whenever I can as well.

i am not sure how much cooking you do, nor do i want to sound like Betty Crocker here, but if you buy the regular quinoa as opposed to the flakes it can be used as one would use rice..added to meatloaf, soups, etc.

To test my suspicion. It is what scientists do. Have a hypothesis? Test it.

a friend is on a low carb diet, and when her cravings get out of control she will make a pizza and, using a fork, will just eat the cheese and pepperoni/sausage. She swears by this.
