I don't like spices...I need my food very very bland. My stomach is sensitive. I can't even use black pepper.

The cause of my bulimia is PTSD and severe anxiety...binging and purging helps reduce my anxiety level.

Post traumatic stress disorder. Severe anxiety. Well, stress equals anxiety. Eating will reduce the feeling of stress. Fat cells on the other hand do produce the stress hormone cortisol. I do not know how purging will reduce the anxiety level.

Nor do we know what the trauma was about - nor do we need to know. But these are the issues you need to address, preferably with the support of a qualified professional or counsel.

If you are a slave one thing that may help is having a competent master.

LOL the common accepted idea of bulimia is that you push your feelings down with food...and then throw them up. Makes you feel better. Otherwise, no one would do it. Generally bulimia is not about food/weight...it's about feeling better. It's a release.

I will repeat: address your trauma and anxiety with the help of competent counsel. If one counsel person is not sufficiently competent, go hunt and find another that is.

true...binging makes you feel out of control...then you purge to be in control again...restricting is generally more about the control issue though.

There is help out now days for eating disorders.  What you need to realize is that eating disorders are part of the "self hatred" syndrome which goes on into more deep pshyological delimias if you live long enough to get help.
Shocking as that statement is, I know what is like to have anorexia.  I thought I was fat at 89 pounds, and I think  I am fat now.  The truth is, it does not matter because what you need to live is inner peace.
Anorexia and bulimia are part of a bipolar disorder.  Seek help now.  Go to a pshye and not a counselor because they will put you on meds that will get you on the right track.
When I was 24, I used to go to bed each night afraid that I would die because I was not eating.

I am already on meds...but my psych will not increase them even though they are both the lowest dose...and are not reducing my anxiety. :(

I take Cymbalta (20 mg) and Neurontin. (100 mg, 3 times a day.)

MissSCD -> RE: I have been asked to post a weeks worth of what I eat... (3/19/2008 8:20:13 AM)

There are reasons he/she will not increase them.  Mine rarely does increase my meds because I take four.  Cymbalta is a combination of prozac and something else.  I know it costs $200.00 per month.
I take prozac, zanex, Lithium and serequil at night.  The serequil helps with mania, but is really expensive.
It sounds like a lot, but I am leading a normal life for me.  Hang in there with the doc.  Make sure you are taking meds such as I do. Pick your battles, and rest.

Cymbalta is an SNRI, like Effexor. Prozac is an SSRI.

Seroquel made me rapid cycle bad...made me suicidal.

Lithium will be a last resort...if I ever try it...too dangerous. Requires close monitoring.

And my psych won't prescribe benzos :( I took Klonopin in the hospital...and it helped so much...I slept the best I have EVER slept...

I suspect that medication is not the solution to your anxiety problem. I do not know what the cause of your anxiety problem is, nor do I need to know. I do know that you need to address it, to face it, acknowledge and perchance accept it, this cause of your anxiety. To do that you need help from someone who is a specialist, perhaps a child psychologist. Quite probably you will have to shop around until you find one who is effective, whereas other specialists with other ideas may not be effective.

Most herbs are not at all spicy. Try some.

If medication is not going to fix my anxiety, then why has medication I have taken in the past, worked? I just had to stop them b/c I had bad side effects.

I did not say they would not work nor perchance be effective. I said that I suspected that medication is not the solution to your anxiety. They are simply a stopgap, but the hole that they are applied to is still there.

Well, how long do you think I should be in therapy before it will "work"? I've been in therapy since I was 16. I've been hospitalized...I've done Day Treatment...several different group therapys...

KyttynTheMynx -> RE: I have been asked to post a weeks worth of what I eat... (3/19/2008 9:02:03 AM)

Doll, therapy isnt gonna work over night.  You may have been in since you were 16, but you and your medical team may have not yet reached the source of WHY youre in therapy.  It takes a while before the doc or whoever will hit the AHA! moment and he can say heres an issue we havent addressed.  You just need to be patient.  Very very patient.

I do not know, as I do not know what your trauma is about. One day? One week? One month? If you have been at it for six years, you might consider to go shopping for another therapist. Look, it is your life and it is not for me to say what you should do with it.
It seems to me that if you have a trauma and anxiety issue that you acquired in maybe a moment, or perhaps three hours of heavy bombardments, then it ought to be possible for a professional to address it in the same amount of time. Instead, they are prescribing medication for your anxiety, I gather.

Yeep! I like how these people are diagnosing and treating you over the internet. Don't stress out too much.

Congratulations on the start of your weight loss! :D Keep up the good work.
