Firstly, can we please loose the assumption that Gor is founded on slaves, and slavery. I've just waded through 6 pages, 2 to go, and most of it is just ignorance.
Gor is about freedom, Kimveri's excellent post should have made that plenty clear. Free women are free because they have the strength, integrity, and honor to not only make decisions but to accept the consequences and responsibilities of those decisions. Exactly as a free man being free. A man's freedoms are encompassed by the circle of his steel - that is to say, what he is willing and able to defend. It ought to be clear that even on Earth the average woman is no physical match for the average man when it comes to challenges of strength, and in Gor, that difference is multiplied. Thus, a free woman's freedoms are those that she can hold onto through wit and cunning, intelligence, and so on, and those that are granted her by the men of her Home Stone, that they are willing to defend on her behalf. Ergo, it is in her best interests to treat said men with respect and humility - since they are in part the bastion that keeps the collar from her graceful throat.
