No, not at all. The operative word here is free, as in not enslaved. A free Gorean is a person, of either gender, who values their autonomy above all else. A slave has traded that autonomy (consensually, of course) for the benefits gained in the full exercising of another’s absolute authority over them.

I’m rather shocked to see such a sweeping absolute come from a person who is typically so very pragmatic. A Gorean free woman are NOT “always” expected to do anything except hold her freedom as her highest value. Should she fail to do that, any other local/cultural/personal preferences to which she might choose to adhere become moot: she is now slave.

I keep seeing this all over the place & it truly does not wash. ANY individual is free because they have done the work to gain & keep that. Should they cease to do so, they will cease to BE so. It’s not a matter of gender, but of merit. A free man is as free as he can gain & keep without finding himself at odds with the “swords of others”. There were men who were “shanghai’d” at the Sardar fairs, to become slaves. This occurred because they failed to KEEP their freedom. Are you suggesting those men at those fairs who were NOT captured remained free because someone else allowed it?

This is a rather large misrepresentation. Not only does the fiction state the exact opposite, but the Gorean man who sits next to me can attest that anyone who wishes to try this with me offline had best pack a lunch….& some ammo….& lots of first aid supplies.
