That's it, spiky. Not something that goes down well in the humourless, dark, swampy lands of the Counter Globe anyhow.

Yeah... spikey rocks.  I'll take that over nice anyday.[;)]
Nice is so - non descript...jsut ask Darcy what I think of 'nice'[:'(]

Nice?  EEEEEEK....
Next time you are back over here - we will do a pub crawl and I will show you NICE![:D]
I'm not big on Gor either - crumbs - but I know transparency when I see through it.

Argh, are you turning all Gorist and touchy on me [;)] ?

PS: as a sign of goodwill, I changed "nice" to "kind", which was my intended meaning.

This girl is crawling at your feet apologising for any offence she may have caused you with all of the abject humility she can gather.

I hope I’ve cleared up a few common misconceptions & also showed a more positive example of demeanor, irrespective of the behavior of others.

Thank you, by the way - this was a cool post.

Hello, Stephann :-D

She would most likely translate to 'female submissive' in a BDSM context, as Gorean women (in practice) are always expected to be submissive to men

I’m rather shocked to see such a sweeping absolute come from a person who is typically so very pragmatic. A Gorean free woman are NOT “always” expected to do anything except hold her freedom as her highest value. Should she fail to do that, any other local/cultural/personal preferences to which she might choose to adhere become moot: she is now slave.

Howdy Kim,

I seem to have misstated myself.  The actual role of a free woman on Gor is honestly complex beyond the scope of this thread, I think.  The general expectation for free women, is that they have voices and minds of their own.  Yet, at all times, a man must be master of his house.  He is responsible for the safety, health, and comfort of those in his sphere of influence.  Women who abide in his house are generally expected to show him a measure of deference.  In practice, I've never known of a Gorean couple where the woman assumed the head of household role.  Yet free women may range from the 'very' submissive, to the very dominant, outspoken, and opinionated.  Such is her right, so long as she has the support of the man who protects her.

My apologies for the careless statement.

Stephan

I am glad you are secure with the fact that your opinion is the right one.
I just see it differently...non the less...interesting view.
The problem is..we filter "things"out of a science fiction book. And we can interpret it al differently....and as you see...we do.

The view on free women changes soem from book to book though.

for those interested;

it ends interesting ;)

There is a Gorean saying that the free woman is a riddle, the answer to which is the collar. Perhaps it is that there is actually more than one answer to the riddle that is the Gorean free woman?

Kimveri -> RE: free woman????????????? (3/20/2008 1:38:58 PM)

There's a bit of distance one must travel between reading fiction & living life.

I wish you well on that journey.

again you judge to fast
I lived my life with a kajira 24/7  ;)

this way of interaction make people stay out of the Gorean forum.
still the life and it rules is extracted for the science fiction novel. With out..the lifestyle wouldn't excist.

That would suggest you're Gorean, as a kajira is simply a slave owned by a Gorean.

Having said that, have you ever lived, or met a Gorean free woman in real time?

Stephan

Justme696 -> RE: free woman????????????? (3/20/2008 1:53:27 PM)

No I didn't.....I had my Kajira..and as you peeked at my profile...you should have read it ;)

Even when I had met one...would it mean she was a real Gorean free woman? Because she lives as she was thought or how she read the books?
We all can interpret the books as we want.

there is a saying " there are many roads that lead to Rome". I pick my one, and I am happy with it.
I hope you are all too...and I can say that with out judging..or saying...that is the wrong way.

btw why would I live with a gorean free woman..if I can have a kajira?
As the books say..a female only knows true love in chains. (sorry ladies..  just quoting  lol)

First off, I have absolutely no judgment on what you do, and how you live.  What I'm pointing out, is that your view on Gorean women, in my opinion, isn't in line with Gorean perceptions of Gorean women.  I can state that I love green eggs, and that I'm dominant, but that doesn't mean all dominants like green eggs.

You clearly have a view on what women should be, and that's fine, but you're talking about and making assumptions about a group of people you've never met.

Stephan

LaTigresse -> RE: free woman????????????? (3/20/2008 2:23:18 PM)

I am just going to be content with the goal of being spiky.

Oh and Stephan, where is the Woman: Find a Woman here..........hmmmmmmmmmm?[:D]

Just as many Goreans I have spoken to have done to people who identify with BDSM, I have recently been reading various things about Gor and I really think my ideas have been coloured by others opinions which is why today I have asked people on the Gorean board for advice on where to start. Most were very nice,

I had a few messages in which the referal to people liking BDSM was less than positive, I think its sad that there needs to be this huge divide but I am not all together sure who it is that creates it, possibly it is ignorance about Gor is (though I have heard a lot of things from 'Goreans' that match with the whole women are beneath men theory)

ANYONE who thinks their way is the 'True' way, be that D/s M/s Gorean etc etc is a pile of crap. Each way is true to the person who practices it, this is something I have seen from many differant people but a lot of Goreans that I have met do have a special kind of arrogance that goes along with the idea that there are set principles. (Of course this is not always the case, I have met some very laid back Goreans too)

It is sad that anyone would feel that they are likely to be attacked for asking a question, especially when in the same breath as saying people should do more research they also complain about misinformation, well you are more likely to get the correct infomation from people who live the life rather than some random unsourced website.

Thankyou to Kimveri too for your articulate post.

Leatherist -> RE: free woman????????????? (3/20/2008 2:27:46 PM)

There is a clear Gorean distinction between a woman suitable in status and demeanor to bear free Hiers-and a woman to be used as property. It's like comparing apples and oranges-a distinction the majority in this thread seem to be missing.

Hense the suggestion that it might be more appropriate to ask it of goreans in the gorean forums. We be a bit clueless out here!

Kirren -> RE: free woman????????????? (3/20/2008 2:33:50 PM)

Omg...the mere mention of Gor and we are all ready to kill each other. I think that should say something.

I know I personally would rather crawl thru a bed of syringes and razor blades only to be bathed in alcohol and lemon juice afterwards than dwell in the land of Gor. Noone ever laughs and they are all stuck up "Im better than you because..." pains in the rectal cavity.

I tried...I went and I was nice...I talked I communicated...I sat and I watched...and honestly....I still got flamed...and I didnt even say anything. It had something to do with nail polish...I was so scared by the event that I have been totally turned off of the idea every since.
