I have been visiting another forum and a dominant in the lifestyle has caused a stir. She is very adamant because she is 62 and has 45 years of experience that she is due honorifics and automatically is due respect. I know because she repeatedly states" I have 45 years of experience and should be treated accordingly." My thing is that she is very rude and condescending to others. She is not showing respect to others so why should she be given any? Do you think a title, age and experience automatically give one respect? Or should their actions towards others determine respect?

Absolutely not.

Yes.

I try to be respectful to others...... but they have to earn my respect.

She has probably spent the past 45 years doing the same thing over and over again that she tried on the first day.  That's how much respect I would show her.  If people have to go around tooting their own horn, who are they trying to convince?  Probably themselves.

Age and experience mean nothing to me.  I don't get people who have that feeling of entitlement, and that includes senior citizens.  All people are equal in status to me until they prove otherwise.  Telling me I must respect them because of "A, B, or C" just tells me that they don't have the same value in humanity.  I don't respect that.

I do not respect a person based on their orientation.  If someone feels entitled to respect simply because they say so then I am sure they  will often be disappointed.

Respect is overrated. Treat me as I you would have me treat you.
That is not so much to ask. As far as By title or experience... How the hell do I know she has 45 years of experience? What does she define as experience? What do you define as experience? What do I define as experience?

Hell NO! Tell her to look me up if you are having issues with her demanding that which is undue. I have 7,892 years of experience in "direspect" lol. I also have the Title "Disrespecting Ass". I am sure I could dally in to hundreds of justifications as to why am more disrepectful than the next. And all my titles, degrees, studies and accreditations, mean EXACTLEY the same as hers... PURE T FUCKALL. If she has all this experience... she should know by now that this is the way life is, and she'll get over it, OR

She's completely full of shit and bears no further discussion at all.

Nope, to me respect has to be earned, by actions rather than simply having been a dom/me for xx number of years. I would have thought that after 45 years in the lifestyle she would have learned that.....apparently not.

lol , i know who you're talking about , as we're also members of that other site, and if I could reach through this screen and choke the living life out of her , I would! I was just telling Allen yesterday that she's been irking the hell out of me since she joined there , and it's been a week if that , that she's been a member!

I consider showing respect to be; evaluating and accepting something for what it is, and acting responsibly for and toward myself in light of it.

Yes, I would treat her with respect, but then, I feel I should mention; I also show a healthy amount of respect toward electricity.

The reason, a lack of respect increases the possibility of underestimating.

I give a certain level of respect as a matter of court. basically the same respect I would give anyone as a human being... but someone like that proves quite quickly they don't deserve the title of Human. so that respect goes down hill quite quickly, after that its only a matter of how much respect I have for myself and how I choose to carry myself(in regards to how much shit I give her)

Personally, I think everybody deserves to be treated with respect, at least until they show that they don't deserve it.

Certainly, people can demand it all they want, but over time, respect is something that has to be earned.

I think it's just as easy to ignore somebody like that as it is to let it bother you. At least that's what I try to do. We all understand that anybody can post on forums and they can claim whatever they want to claim. But claiming something doesn't make it true. It's the internet. For the most part, people can and do say anything they want to say. It's usually not worth it to get into an online battle with people like that.

I think a person always has to earn respect.  Hopefully, as a person gets older and gains more experience they get better at earning respect.  If you are interacting with a person for the first time, I think that they are due a basic level of respect, but it sounds like this lady expects more respect that would normally be accorded.

As a general rule... I give repect to all .. but if you must act like a ass.. then you will be treated as one. ....If you listen to people they will tell you who they really are.. usually in a very short amount of time.

Want to hear a good one, I work at a place that just voted in a union, they want a clause in the contract saying we  have to be respected. I bet the company laughed its ass off when it seen that. Some people no matter how hard you try just are not going to respect you, even if you deserve it. You can automatic respect everybody from the get go, but it can be lost right away from the start, if they are not worthy of it.

~FR~

This causes me to wonder how much value someone would place on respect given to them if it were so easy to obtain. I'd rather earn any respect which may come my way. Then it will really have meaning to me.
