Your writing is good, Keira, but if I could read minds, I'd be playing poker in Vegas instead of doing what I do for a living.

At the same time, I sit here often, reading, and trying to get a good understanding of what’s going on. It seems more times then not; instead of trying to figure out who might be the best choice, it turns into “well, your guy did this” which is refuted with, “well, your guy did that”. All the while I can’t help thinking; none of them sound beneficial toward the goal.

Yeah.  It does get that way, especially when partisan double-standards come into play.  I'd love to have the straight honest discussion, but not until the hypocrites come down off the high horse.  There is no moral high-ground in politics.

In our indivual lives, or the grand parade and spectacle of politics and history, we are what we are and we is where we is.  No amount of blame will change it.   Learn the lessons by all means, but wouldn't all of our energy be better spent looking forward and making the best of now?

When I asked him what his purpose for wanting to kill, he didn’t say what I expected him to, something about fighting for freedom; instead he says, “because I’ve been trained kill.”

Yeah, I've heard that crap as well.  Take comfort that Socrates lamented the lack of values among the youth as well.  I think it means we are officially old.

One more try at the OP question, and then I have to light the grill.  Watch one of the televised debates with the sound turned off.  Trust your gut.

Okay, here's a radical idea. For those of you who can't stomach voting for any of the candidates, do what i do. Go to the polls and spoil your ballot. That sends a clear message whereas simply not voting sends no message at all.

Thank you, for sticking with me to work through the misunderstanding. You aren’t the first, but one of the few.

I find these to be some of the most rewarding times, because it helps me to see things others see; that I do not. I think it is good practice.

Well, yes, this was part of my point; which is why I said “when we are done”.

However, I do realize the activity has purpose; otherwise, I doubt it would exist.

What does it mean when you believe you understand, why youth is the way it is?

Seems like all one can do.

Thanks again.

MontrealPhoenix,

Would you please tell me what spoiling the ballot means?

Gladly. All you have to do is make the ballot invalid. For instance, here in Canada, we mark the ballot by hand, so i simply put an X for all the candidates - fewer and they think the person who did it is just too dumb to vote properly. Remember the idea is to send a message that you can't in good conscience vote for ANY of the candidates.

Thank you.

I'm still leaning toward my "we the people" idea; which would probably work for this purpose.

We'll see. Thankfully there is still a little time.

Point me to the one who only wishes to be a representative of the people, and not one who wishes to make our choices for us.

and therein lies the problem!  But you know what we ask for it in our ignorance.  How many people come out here using words like democracy?  How about "our leaders"?  Since when?  With thi kind of talk we are already giving them permission to do exactly what they are doing.

Another thing always and I do mean alway vote your heart!  No matter who you hate or the best of 2 evils or whatever if you liked your mother for pres then vote for her period.

This idea of throwing votes over to the next one to "keep it in the party" stifles any other party from getting in to change things and these two and the corps are well invested in each other so yo usee how we fuck oursleves by following our "leaders"?

Its not and never hase been about party lines vote your heart even if its for yourself!!

Perhaps not voting is not an option, and the important thing is how one votes. The problem I am seeing; trying to figure out how to make the option I want available.

Not voting is not an option for me; I believe I have a responsibility to exercise my stake in the nation.

Great but those people that voted for Labour's second term got a nasty surprise and something very few bargained for, namely a war. Which is probably by Labour's third term they managed to get elected on only 25% of the possible vote, 40% having not voted because what you get from politicians is coruption and lies. If anyone wants to get involved in politics, better to work for extra-parliamentarian organisations or take extra-parliamentarian action because voting so often proves a lottery where even if your party wins, you get a government nothing like you thought you voted for. The truth is that big business has already bought the politicians and as for Blair, it was quite obvious he was thinking about his post-political career in the US with the decisions he was making while in power.
