I'm not certain where it started, but it tends to be annoying at best. To me, the Y/you type writing style reads like stuttering sounds. I don't have the patience to wade through that and, more often than not, I won't even bother reading a post if it's excessively riddled with that style of typonese.

Until I met Master, I'd always used proper capitalization. While we were still separated by 150 miles and only saw each other on the weekends, He requested that I capitalize all references to Him, and lower-case all references to myself. I thought it was a ridiculous thing to do (and I still do), but it seemed such a small thing to do to please Him, so I complied, and it became a habit. Now that we've lived together for a while, I've gone about halfway back to normal writing. I still capitalize references to Him, but that's about it... usually.

It's the old "whatever master orders" [grin] but I'm glad in your communications with us [wink] you stick to the tried and true.

Not a fan but it is not as bad as when you get someone wRiTnG lIkE tHiS and thinking its cool. My eyes are old and can only take so much in...Oh and I HATE text messages too. Takes me a day and a half to send a text message because I write it all out. When someone replies to me in text it takes me 2 weeks to decipher it...

I hate 'txt' speak.

The only phrase I know in text speak is WTF? which comes in useful for those who can't grasp the English language.

Well, I figure if one is to understand another's point of view, one must first be able to read it.

I think it happens when people are new to online BDSM. When I first started going to boards and some websites I would see it used and I did think it was the thing to do. I even tried it myself and found it hard and stupid.

I will do it with names sometimes. Like I don't always capitalize my name, but will my Sirs. Just a habit I got into and I like it.

It's a bit like picking "web dings" for a font, isn't it? Then expecting people to understand what you are trying to say?

Please don't flame me for being stupid, many thanks.

Flame you? Heck, I'm right there with you on this one!

I enjoy proper English in communicating, and tend to even skip posts I/i see like that, or those people that feel the need to capitalize their entire post. I find it hard enough to see through these bifocals, let alone decipher through all the caps and double typing.

I have no idea where and when it started but it certainly was prevelent in the old MSN chars (D/s and BDSM as well as Gorean RP rooms). I was always told it was the efficient cyber wat to show who was sub/slave and who was Dominant. TXTY messages I do have.. When I read messages that start with :HowRU I havent seen UB4: and such, my first instinct is tyo ignore or on my mobile to delete. Those who txt me regularly have learned is, if they want me to respond, to write in proper english as I will simply delete without reading.

No slave of mine will ever be expected to use anything bit correct english which includes grammar and punctuation. I know she is a slave and she knows I'm master and the rest of the world can figure it out by the text body and signatures.

I think insulting someones protocol openly like that, while honest, is probably at least riding the edge of politeness very close.

I second this motion. You'll see me do it in my titles to address the masses, you'll see me cap the H in He, and sometimes using i instead of I. That's just me. I'm doing it to show some form of diluted respect so at least appreciate the thought. ;)

I think people are missing the point. It's not about upper or lowercasing,it's about insisting on making it generic with the slashy/////////// thing.

I/it's A/about T/typing L/like T/this I/it's V/very C/confusing T/to T/try T/to R/read.

i don't find the lowercase/uppercase thing hard to keep track of at all. For me it's just habit. What's hard for me to follow is the third-person speak, to each their own but theres times ive started out reading a post and dont catch on right away that someone is talking about themselves.
