The self-righteous, See the end of this post
gun-totin',  4 years in the Army carried a weapon twice, always have my gun with me.
always tried to look tough enough or act crazy enough to not need a weapon
military-lovin',   how could one not, with or without a loved one overseas.
sister-marryin',  Not likely, have you seen my sisters?
abortion-hatin',   personal choice favors life, but life is too short to hate.
gay-loathin',  life is too short to make choices for others as well
foreigner-despisin', speak 6 languages, learned for everywhere i traveled, but i do ask  the same.
nonpassport ownin'   hard to get to non-english speaking areas without one.
rednecks,   only red when it is slapped.
who believe God gave America the biggest d*** in the world so it could urinate on the rest of us and make their land 'free and strong.'  actually i'm inclined to "american standard" indoor plumbing, and public restrooms.  My personal mission in the military and for the military is to appear tough enough with one big enough to have an answer for this BS when it tries to enter my homeland.
Now back to self-righteous, you bet your sweet ass i am.

I have to admit, I’m going to need a translation for that article, it came across as a lot of static.

Public school did me no justice; up side to that, I did not recieve the usually perscribed brainwashing either.

Perhaps I did not understand what you were implying by the OP, I thought it was about being insulted, but now it seem as though it was making light of our circumstances.

I guess it doesn’t really matter, because I jumped ahead of that and assessed, not only is the quote from the article alarmingly true, to be making light of it; trying to pretend that it is not, is becoming detrimental to us keeping any liberties we may have left.

Not saying you were implying either, as I said, I am no longer sure what was meant, but I read enough on these boards to know; we are headed no where near where we say we want to go, and too many do not see that.

Thank you for the safe passage. ;)

This was a poor choice of words, nothing more.

If he had said anger, instead of bitter and embraced, instead of cling, this wouldn`t be an issue.

Some of these PA gun toting ,bike riding conservatives don`t see it your way.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpnUkbb_qfU

People are angry,..... and Bush is the symbol of their upset. These folks aren`t going to vote for Bush III, John McCain,no matter what.

I think most folks see through this and aren`t buying the hype or fake outrage, either from Hillary or the CBCs (cry baby conservatives).

And the dolts who do think that this is important, won`t be voting for Obama anyway. No biggie.

added:

Bush/Rice have been paying this thug Muqtada al-Sadr ,to not fight us(10 bucks a day,per fighter).

Now that that arrangement is over, the "significant progress" that the neo-cons have been touting, will dissolve.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080420/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq

And the forces of Muqtada al-Sadr ,have been claiming victory.

I think the attempt at understanding the complex  tribal, ethnic and religious workings of Iraq by neo-cons, is well,.... kinda ridiculous, considering they haven`t gotten one analysis or policy correct yet.

It was about being insulted.  By Obama, and by Reade.

But it was so very funny as well, because it points to an utter blindness what some believe about Americans, and about rural Americans in particular.

But, like the black community embracing the "n" word for themselves, one of the best ways to discombobulate and take the sting out of others' prejudice and hatred is to accept the words they use.

Give me my guns.
Give me my freedom of expression and religion.
Leave God out if it, She has no favorites.

The US has lost its moral position in the world and is now nothing but a bully with lots of economical clout.
This saddens me, as I spent a good number of years in the Military serving this country and doing my part to help uphold the Constitution.
We were a great country, but as each year passes, it seems like we're falling behind. Sure we have power, military power, but try to remember, it was 13 colonies that managed to fight off one of the most powerful nations in the world and break free of its oppression. We are not here by the grace of God. We are here by luck of the draw. One day, like Rome, our nation will be history, nothing more.

I am thankful for my time in places outside the US; my learning about other cultures, and not just from the American view point.
Being selfcentered is not in our best interest. By ignoring the world, we are setting ourselves up for failure. We can fail, all it takes is an idiot at the helm, and we have that idiot, his name is Bush.

At least if the GoC(orperation, it is no longer of the people) wins this time the man in office will not be iffy on what is and is not torture. He's been there, he knows first hand. And any of you who think that waterboarding is not torture needs to have it done to you. CIA operatives who knew what was coming only last 14 seconds when having it done to them.

I'm tired, slightly drugged so not making total sense but I am sure the point is made.

It's true. We no longer to have the capacity to think outside the box. We believe what we are told.

You know like the awful illegals...They are a problem...We are facing much worse.

We live for sound bytes. We know more about Brittany than Baghdad. I think we polled at 117th in our understanding of geography as a nation.

I don't have much hope that things will improve. I don't think McCain is a bad guy. So much needs to be done to make others understand that we are not what our leaders are. McCain is probably not that guy, anything has got to be better than what we have just endured. The guy believes that intelligent design should be taught along side evolution. Putz.

We paint the Dems as educated elitists...Like education is "bad." Who in politics is not part of the elite? If the Dems are out of touch with America....What does that actually say about where our country is and is heading? I guess the nation would rather be lied to than ever take the time to get to the truth...It's sad but true. The truth is hard...don't rock the boat just do what you are told and never question shit. Sign up and die...Who gives a fuck what you died for?...as your blood and guts run out into the sand you better be pretty damn pleased that you have sacrificed all that you have for nothing. Poor saps.

It's not good. So we are stuck electing Dumb asses like Bush...sign of the times.

Thank God for the twenty four car....No wonder "they" are not bitter...There is a NASCAR race damn near every weekend to keep their minds off of the world and the truths that surrounds them.

Firm,

Those who are prejudice are already discombobulated, and there should be no sting from their prejudice, unless it is true.

Their hatred is a reflection of what we have, they wish they had, or something they do not like about themselves.

I am not ashamed of what I am, but I am a little pissed off that I was lied to about what I could be.

Everyone gets to make their own choice, as far as I’m concerned, mine will be for “we the people”. I was told that was our goal. As soon as we change that, I will change my vote.

Word to the wise; I wouldn't go around calling people that stuff, unless you know them; they may not get it.

Edited to add; America is becoming the Titanic; you guys do remember who got the life boats, right?

Stella... Firm and I both have sons in Iraq right now. I have a second son who will be going in August.

I did actually write 'lost' as in that member of their family is now dead.

I sincerely wish that this never happens to you and that your sons return safely home from Iraq.

I also sincerely wish that none of you ever have the face the uncertainty, fear or even terror that people now have to experience in Iraq or suffer such a loss of livelihood.

And I certainly wouldn't wish on any of you any of the atrocities carried out on a daily basis against Iranians or for you to have to live with the fear and terror which they have to live through.

interesting thought process.
perhaps i have listened without thinking for the past bunch of years, but if one looks outside the box, one might notice a few things that are rarely, if ever, said.
in a shorter than 24 hour period, we had several attacks on US soil that wiped out around 3000 of my unsuspecting fellow citizens who did not have the ability to shoot back, and who did not volunteer for that sacrifice.  (don't jump down my throat yet, there is a point)
as a tactician, and a follower of rumors, there were more attacks on the drawing board.  Pragmatically it seems highly unlikely that this would be intended as a one shot deal.
That i had friends and family in the DC and NYC area is irrelevant.
No matter how strange might the tactics and reported thought processes seem to be, i have noticed the following outcomes:
Volunteers (and remember i used to be military) with the ability to shoot back have moved the center of activity off of US soil.  The follow through that i suspected was in the offing has not occurred (yet, sorry for the pessimism) at least not with unarmed citizens sitting in their offices, just trying to do a job.
Why am i not there?  as a cold war vet, i was just a bit too old for military requirememts and Arabic is not one of my languages.  Go figure.

You mean the adults who made a conscious decision to serve their fellow countrymen by enlisting in the service? Do you understand what valor is? It has nothing to do with glory, but the two are often confused because of their intent. They did as their country asked, and if it were wrong then it was their leaders and the people who allowed those leaders to do it, that are accountable.

To those families I would sincerely say thank you, and leave it at that.

It's not education that's bad.  It's educated people thinking they are inherently superior that is "bad" and "elitist."  People who sit in an ivory tower and look down on those who haven't had the opportunity at the education they have and who use that education as a weapon against others - that's way more ignorant than having no formal education at all.

Yeah and a football game and a basketball game and freakin' golf.  People obsess over those sports and others too to get their mind off the misery in the world.  That's not all bad and it's not just "rednecks" watching NASCAR.  Two tips about that, BTW.  It's not a "redneck" sport anymore.  It's a multi-million dollar industry that people from all walks of life enjoy and the 24 car is not a "real" redneck's favorite.  If you're gonna talk about the rednecks, do your research[;)].

The bottom line is, as always, being a "redneck" does not equal ignorace and intolerance.  Painting all "rednecks" with the same broad, stereotypical brush does...............luci

You shouldn't take it to heart, Firm. The continental Europeans get it far worse from the Daily Mirror. The French just shrug their shoulders at this sort of thing; the Germans laugh it off as no more than run-of-the-mill, xenophobic, little-Englander, seige mentality. 'Seems the French and Germans are made of sterner stuff. Most of us over here wouldn't give the Daily Mirror a second glance, but then it's not your fault that you don't realise you're quoting from a tabloid that carries about as much weight as a balloon in the sphere of English public opinion.

Iraq War Time Line

Quite thorough, with citations.

atursvcMaam -> RE: self-righteous, gun-totin', military-lovin', sister-marryin', abortion-hatin', gay-loathin', for (4/19/2008 11:25:13 PM)

Not quite so thorough, and another question from outside of this box.  The UN ordered inspections of a process in Iraq at the end of the Gulf war in HW's day.  no doubt that they existed, and that the UN was told to cease the inspections.  there is no record of the destruction or dismantling of these weapons which would have been a wise diplomatic move.  i find it hard to believe that they disappeared, or sprouted wings and flew away.  but i have never liked surprises much.

subfever -> RE: self-righteous, gun-totin', military-lovin', sister-marryin', abortion-hatin', gay-loathin', for (4/21/2008 4:59:38 PM)

It seemed rather thorough to me. What was missing?

The time line began in March of 2003, when the war began.
