*"they ARE a great toy!"...* I thought this might be a fun post for a rainy Sunday morning---Many of us in this life are seeking a LTR--which can mean cohabiting at some point---so we are single with independent lives, worlds, stuff etc--lots of us are older, meaning homes, assets, stuff and more stuff---once you decided to meld into a single D/s unit---what are some of the funny and not so funny moments when decisions were made for what came, what saw the trash pile and how your stuff, toys and physical assets got morphed into "ours"? And what do you still mourn the loss of? And what almost broke the camels back? *edited to add: I guess there is a converse here as well---if it didn't work out, how did you divide those things?*

Brilliant question which I can't answer right now because Darcy and I are 'in it' at the moment - but I can say I will be happy to burn every single cardboard box at the end. If I never see one again, it will be too soon! the.dark.

LOL I am not there yet and don't look forward too, just the thought of makes me cringe, I am in a 4 bedroom house with the basement converted into a business with a lot of inventory and equipment 2 industrial sewing machines, embroidery machine, serger, heatpress, engraver , a work shop with a number of wood working tools plus I have an art room and all the supplies that go along with that, a computer room with 2 desktops and 3desks and cabinets 2 office sized laser printer plus 2 jet printers one being wide format ...I also have 4 dogs ..... lets say downsizing inorder to meld is not going to be in an way an easy task and has the potential to start a war

Oh ye gods! The main reason that it cost Master and I over $10,000 to shift Our more than 100 bits of furniture and 213 boxes across Australia is that We are both hoarders and neither of Us wanted to part with Our equivalent of pink flamingoes LOL! Every now and then, when We look a bit gloomily at the bank balance, Master has this wild idea that if things go pear-shaped here, We should sell up, buy a large Winnebago or equivalent, and set up to drive slowly around Australia seeing all that We didn't have time to see before. Sounds great ... until I look around at all this stuff, much of which would be awfully hard to replace and think ... HOW?? And I second the comment about cardboard boxes ... ARRGGHHH! There's still a couple to be sorted and unpacked ... Maam Jay aka violet[A]

I'm in the 'packing/fixing up my house so that I can put it on the market' then move to Texas stage. I've had to set aside over 500 books I just can't move (because I've packed over two pallets worth already) and that is painful. There is no place I can move to that will have the sort of space I have now. It's not something packable but there is a major thing I have to leave behind as well. My property. Oh jeez I love it here, I have just under 6 acres with a lot of old forest. Just last night I heard the peacocks that live out there (yes peacocks in Michigan, I think they are escapees) calling. I have 7 does that regularly come through and soon they will be leading baby deer.I can play outside naked, I can make all the noise I want to. There are no fences, I don't even own keys to my house. I can't take that with me but I will have the memories and photos. Oh, and feathers, nests, rocks, bones, saved leaves, carved branches & antlers will be going with me even if I have to sacrifice more books![:D] Even with the difficulty of leaving what I love and live surrounded by, I am eager to move and be with him. (any suggestions as to what to do with all those books I can't take?..other than a library sale?)

Going through the, trying to move at the moment. No way its all going to fit in His place, so, being sensible for the first time in my life, most is going into storage. Hoping i'll never need it again, but son and his girlfriend are looking for a place of their own, so he'll eventually take most of it. Things im insisting on bringing with me, all my tiger pictures, my mug for tea (ok im fussy) and electric tin opener. The rest i doubt i'll miss, and i can always slowly introduce stuff. He may then never notice!!! That will be the day.

Fortunately, we moved in together right out of college, so we didn't have a lot of stuff to sort out at that point... However, when we moved across town two years ago, it took four trips with a 25' moving truck, plus 8-10 trips with all of our other vehicles (including a pickup truck and a hearse). i will say that there is no closet equality in an F/m relationship... we have a walk-in closet and two reach-in closets, a dresser, chest of drawers, and armoire all filled with clothes... of which i get four drawers in the dresser, and 2' of rack space in the walk-in (the space underneath is filled with her shoes. And i think i'm going to be losing one of my drawers soon [:o] On the plus side, the garage is all mine, it's packed to the rafters with stuff (literally), and she doesn't ask a lot of questions about it. Mostly because she may regret them [:D] Recent discussion: "I thought you had two extra running lawn mowers?" "i did, but i gave one to a co-worker who bought her first house. But she gave me a broken one in trade" "You traded a working lawn mower for a broken one? Never mind, of course you did" She just shook her head and walked away [:D] And, yes, i am keeping some of my clothes in the garage now...

My Sir lives half an hour away from my house, so i basically moved in piecemeal. The first things i moved was my oil paintings- and got rid of his posters. He gave me carte blanche to do anything i wanted in the house - so i did. Most of the artwork is mine, i had my china hutch moved in (cost me $100!), and told him that he can't kick me out now because it would be too expensive! lol! He complains that i took him to his word way too literally - hehe. I have a sewing room for all my craft stuff - and it is full! I have an area in the living room for my birds - african grey, two greencheek conures and a budgie named Mickie. and all my books! I have filled two bookcases and am working on another -amd that doesn't include all the books i left behind. I have little in the way of clothes because quite frankly i don't wear them often. (saves on the laundry!) i had to leave my cats and dogs behind because of allergy issues, but i was happy to do so inthat it wasn't a deal breaker for me. I left my kids in residence (adults), and cringe every time i go back to the house, but i have a room full of stuff that i need to sort out and give to a charity. I just don't want to spend the time away from my Sir to do it. Really need to though - maybe i could find someone who would actually pay rent to take it over. sigh. I am completely amazed at the volume of stuff i have managed to accumulate over the past 20-odd years. I even found some things i had lost years ago.

I'm STILL pissed about my comic book collection that got 'left behind' when I split with my first husband. Just to rub salt in the wound, he later donated them to a charity auction where he knew I would be... as well as a comic book dealer with pockets deep enough to out bid me on MY OWN STUFF!

I'm about to go through the whole moving in together thing (again) with my Dom, although this will be the first time with all of his belongings and all of mine being smushed together. To be fair, he will be bringing a lot less than me since he is moving from Iceland and has to take all of his life with him (some things will be staying in storage with his parents' which was the case for his siblings as well, good thing they have a large house!) I am full of excitement for this. We have lived together in the past, but for me it was right after a semester abroad and I had all of my belongings in only 2 large bags. To be fair, it was not my life I was bringing with me, but I discovered it was all I needed. Our apartment at the time was not our home, in a sense. We both knew it would not be permanent and lived there a total of 4 months. Now we will be making a home together. Our personalities tend to blend quite nicely and we communicate beautifully so I don't forsee any problems (unless it is building furniture. We tend to rub the wrong way when doing that, but as soon as the project is complete, it dissolves all bad feelings I get) So far we've decided on trying to leave the mass majority of our books in boxes in various storage spaces and bringing our ultimate favorites and then building our library together :)

My wife andi is nearly OCD Horder. She had a 5x10 Storage unit STUFFED to the the absolute MAX with crap she could never use again (Clothed from when she was 12.... before she grew another foot, had a baby, and increased her breast size by a half cup. Other than a Chest of drawers and a Coffee table EVERYTHING got thrown away. We faught over it but in the end I let her keep 3 top and 3 bottoms...... NONE of which have I seen her wear since I said she could keep them a year ago. This is a CONSTANT issue in this house. Andi gets attached to something and wants to keep it.... forever.... no reason why... she just can't bear to part from it. In addition to this I was sued by my former slave because when we seperated she figured I would be back and so she let me keep certain things like a cell phone. In the end it ended up costing me nearly a Grand because even thought I asked for her to send me a bill she never did till she asked for 500 for the last 6 months after we split. eventually she took me to court and tacked on every bill from the beginning of the phone that was covered as part of the rent I paid but since I didn't have that in writing, well lets just say that ended poorly. as a college student I've gotten the process of moving down to an art. I couldn't do it faster if you gave me a catapult. That said...there are things in cardboard boxes that haven't been opened since 2003...
