oh that is SO true... it's one of the reasons I keep a healthy distance from large power tools (table saws and the like).. I don't care if they DO have those shields on them.. I just KNOW the bastards are waiting to take my hand off.... lol

I just KNOW the bastards are waiting to take my hand off.... lol Yeah I know what you mean … I used to use power tools a lot on my dad’s farm in NE California, as a teenager (I’m British, but my dad was a naturalised yank), but I was ok with those, because they’re self-evidently highly dangerous. It’s the ordinary, everyday stuff that lunges for me. Although I did once staple my hand to a fence post with a power stapler. It doesn’t hurt as much as you’d think, at least not at first, so you stand there, feeling a bit of a burk, staring at your hand stuck to a wooden post. Then your brain says “that wasn’t too bad – dodged a bullet there … give it a bit of a tug and it’ll probably come out easily”. Then you try that, and end up screaming your head off. Then some friends come over and, once they’ve stopped laughing, they use a screwdriver to prise your hand away from the post.

oh yeah, Christine. anything with thorns on it, too. anyway, before I get spanked for derailing: I'd love to try absinthe, in as close to original form as possible. When I was in Holland we went into a shop that had an antique absinthe set... just GORGEOUS!! (and wicked expensive)

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm... blindingly high alcohol content does not necessarily make for a good drink. Mouthwash averages 20%, waaaaaaaaayyyy more than any good wine [8D] . The champion: surgical alcohol, 90%!!! Absinthe's success relies nearly exclusively on the myth surrounding it; it's amusing how the biggest Absinthe snobs are to be found in America. Ahem... Need I say more [:D] ?

At least they have come up with other methods of keeping it safe for our consumtion. big smile I do not mind drinking the mid-range cheaper stuff as I am cooking, or just setting around. I quite sadly can no longer drink any reds that are not cooked into something. sobs Damn tannins give me migraines. I do as much recycling as humanly possible. Not sure on the wine box recycling... I need a bigger fridge to fit one of those babies in my fridge for cooking. I can see where the not knowing how much was drank can be bad. chuckles I had a friend who used to "lose her box" while out walking from camp to camp of friends. Gwyn

Wineries are businesses and they are in it for profits. Within the next 10 years, 95% of wines under $100 will be screw tops or box. because they are cheaper and they protect the wine better. As for synthetic corks, they leak way too much and again..cost way more that screw tops and boxes. Will you $350.00 bottles still have cork and lead foil? Probably but your really good $20 bottle will not.
