But, I was addressing slaveboy, because it was a Faux News link that he attached to his thread. And see... I even wrote 'antidote', as a charming pun to go with the wizardry story :-) .

Tsk tsk, Firmhand... your political eagerness and enthusiasm are to be commended, but they do betray you at times  .

Not at all.  Perhaps I should have written my last intro sentence like ...
My three links were to:

My primary point was the last sentence:
(Often, when Fox is mentioned in contempt, I simply take it as a self-identification of true-believer-ism.).

Such comments such as yours about FOX News are an indication of a certain belief pattern.  You thought it was just a humorous little aside - which it is, among the "trendy lefty".  Making negative, inconsequential remarks intended to demean a source with no real refutation of what they have reported is reinforcing and spreading a certain meme, so that you (and others) can then "safely" discount anything of substance they might report.

It's not my "political eagerness and enthusiasm" that betray me.  It's yours, kittin.

Firm

I know quite a lot of people whose political opinions are radically opposite to mine who laugh at Fox News and consider it complete and absolute garbage... It's just about journalistic integrity, not ideological belief.

To DEFEND Fox News, however, denotes a definite political agenda. Why would anybody with a serious interest in information defend an entertainment business that passes for 'news'? Don't forget that where I come from, Murdoch radically owns most of the press - not with happy consequences either.

Seriously  .

Largo, Florida – The same school district that allegedly fired a substitute teacher after he performed a magic trick in class has paid a Largo man to perform magic tricks at a summer program for years. http://www.tampabays10.com/news/local/article.aspx?storyid=80222
Thanks for the additional links Firmhand. I wonder if he was hoping the rest would just slide by somehow?  Actually I didn't mean to link religion as strongly to it as I seemed to. It sparked a memory for me that has always been frustrating. When the third Harry Potter book came out I was had been working at a bookstore for a half dozen or so years. An older gentleman came in seeking a book for his 8 year old nephew  who 'had an active imagination' so I suggested the book of the moment. Harry Potter. He actually backed away from me and put his hands behind his back as if he could catch something from me, and told me in no uncertain terms that his nephew would not be exposed to sinful magic and violence. He also said he would pray for me (then asked for my manager). So while I did not assume that this was due to some 'religious right wing issue' (a phrase I have never uttered in my life) of a concerned parent I assumed only that the teacher saw it as having to do solely with the magical disappearing toothpick and it connected to that memory. That particular incident pops up in my mind when things like 'kid learning/exploring, denial of creativity'   join together, thats all.

camille,

I wasn't specifically, or even generally talking about your comments.

Thank you for the new link as well.  For those interested, this article links to the pdf copies of the substitute's counseling and dismissal letters.

Also, note through-out all the articles, the constant refrain is "the substitute claims that he is being dismissed because of 'wizardry' ".

Please.

Pretty please with sugar on top,
quote me where I defended Fox News in this thread?

(Yet ... you continue to attack them.  Interesting validation of my original hypothesis, methinks. )

I'm not going into a loop argument with you over who said what when and how: it's not a technique I excel at, as I didn't go to a school debating society.

You will find all you need in your own posts :-) (I love it when you say 'please' .)

I don't read Fox News that much.  A friend of mine sent me the link, and I laughed my ass off when I read it.  I just thought I'd share.  I didn't know the Captain Buzzkills would kill it off by actually looking up facts.

Sorry, slaveboy.  I do tend to research before I post, I'll admit.

Captain Buzzkill ... I like that.

"loop argument"?  Neat-o way to avoid answering the question, so you don't have to admit to a mistake.  And then turning passive-aggressive on me, in an attempt to put me on the defensive?

Ahhhh, come on kittin.  You're better than that!

Nope, not doing it :-) . It's not because I'm being graceful enough to let you have the last word that I'm going to let you imply my gracefulness is a sign of weakness. No public spat for you and me: we're collectively better than that.

Tsk tsk tsk!

Gee, kittin ... is this a "spat"?  I didn't know we were an "item"!

I guess you didn't realize we have something in common on our "looking up the facts".  I'm Captain Killbuzz, and you are "miss tight ass fact finder"  (NOT MY WORDS!).

Night kittin.  Have a saucer of milk, and sheath your claws for the night?

I think they were very correct in going after this evil demon from hades.

And that we should ban Satanclaus and the Evil Bunny next. It's what Jesus would do!!!!!!

Kittin:

While I *am* a person who lives in KY, (although I really just arrived here), I do find it interesting that when someone actually challenges you to a debate, you "hit" and "run".
You don't seem to be open to any sort of actual debate, in which you may have to answer to things you might have said, or others might have said.
Other than that (and the fact that we have different political views), I enjoy reading your posts.
Basically what I'm saying, is, that if you have something to say, you should be prepared to defend what you say with facts, opinions, and history.

Wishing you the best,

~Christina

No, I have nothing to defend. Firmhand, whom I suspected must have been bored, decided to get as much meat from a lighthearted comment as he could, which in turn made for a silly, good natured exchange (I hope so anyway lol).

Sometimes, one only has to say one quick thing in order to make one's point. Hit and run? Nah.

I repeat: I'm not into school debating society discussions that have for basis an adversarial conversational style. I wasn't trained in that: I come from the school of quick, witty retorts. Well, I try to apply what I learnt anyway and on occasions, I will depart from that particular tradition and try and concentrate on more worthy things. I'm superficial, and shallow.

Glad you enjoy it  . But enough about moi.

Ok; but I really think that if you have an opinion, you should be able to say why you have that opinion, and give (logical) reasons why.

Thanks for the additional links,Firm, aka "Capt. BK".

Sounds like some nutters are in charge down there.Wizardry, jeesshhh, give me a break.

These are the same kooks who say that D&D is devil`s play and "Alice In Wonderland" is satanic.

Unfortunatly, these less than enlightenned folks have power over others and their jobs.

This is a great example of why teachers should get tenure and why they need unions to protect them from the loons.

Yes?

Added for xxblushesxx;where are you when Firm pulls the same shit? I call pot-kettle-black on Firm...

More of KittinSol's "Snappy Answers to Stupid Questions" in a moment...

Those need a foundation in reality, though, Kitten, unless you hold your audience in such contempt as to assume their ignorance is greater than your own.

It's only funny when it's true.

Counterspell yes, you're correct, it would have been far better than antitode. To late to edit now, alas, but next time, next time.

Hey, I wasn't trying my charm on him, by the way... I hope he's not offended? And you, more to the point? Cos that's the last thing on my mind. Sometimes mischievoussness gets the better of me.

Anyway... hasta la vista!
