What others read into something is not always what is there.  I remember a story about a college professor who was teaching about the symbolism in one of Robert Frost's poems.  One of the students wrote to Mr Frost to see if the poet would explain it in a way that he could understand.  Mr Frost traveled to the college to inform the professor in front of all of his students that the stated symbolism was not there nor had it ever been intended and that the student who had written him had seen it for what it was.... a pretty poem.

When I read poetry at school the teachers would insist they knew exactly what the intent of each word meant as if there was only one correct interpretation. Obviously I always knew this was rubbish but no one could ask D H Lawrence  what the poem meant so they largely got away with it. Even if you could ask D H Lawrence he'd never tell you what his writing meant, it's for each individual to find their own meaning in it. That's why it is amusing when you see a poet being all coy about a meaning to his work because maybe you see something quite clever he never actually intended.
 
This is why it is important to try to not produce material that can be interpreted in a negative way. The fact I've found this meaning proves either the writers of this film aren’t being careful enough or may even be encouraging misinterpretation that they can laugh off when asked directly but really intend the dark meaning to be discovered by others.
 
No one can say for sure hence the problem.

You'll find the majority of Russian's wouldn't change what happened in 1990, it made a lot of Russian's super rich and a lot of them poor. The rich Russians are the ones you hear complaining about the Indiana Jones film. I saw this American film recently called ‘Next’ where the villain was French and it had Nicolas cage in.

In this film the French wanted to plant a nuclear bomb in the US for some strange reason.

Why the French; because they didn't agree with the Iraq war?  Also do you remember the film ‘Gone in 60 seconds’ had a criminal Brit in because all criminals in the US are British.

It was highly amusing.


Actually the plot of that movie was terrorism based. And as we know, terrorists do not come from any "one" country. They exist everywhere. I saw a lot of henchmen in that film that were decidedly NOT french. Oh and lets not forget the trouble that France had recently with the muslim rioters and such. I'm sure those muslims spoke french.

I cringed when I saw the below advertised it is in such bad taste and is going to upset a lot of people.

Actually, that movie was hilarious. And the only ones I can see being upset by it are the uber-fanatical right wingers.

You would have complained if the criminals had been Spanish, Irish or Lithuanian.  The fact is that the bad guys in the film were French.  So what?  Every country has wackos and this author portrayed his as being French.  I think its a case of you wanting to make something out of nothing.  You want there to be something bad so you find it.


No kidding. There's a movie coming out in September starring Liam Neson called "Taken." It's a FRENCH movie about an American girl and her friends who are kidnapped while traveling in  Paris and sold into slavery. Her father, an AMERICAN ex CIA operative hunts them across the country, using old skills to their fullest.

Seems to me, if the French see fit to make themselves into the bad guys, then who are we to argue?

The people you are talking about are French citizens, born in France, their parents were born in France too, for the most part. So yeah, they speak French, although not the kind of linguo I'll teach you when we finally sit down for your lesson . The media has seized upon their religion as yet another Islam-bashing opportunity. And what a field day they're having  .

Oh....I think it was totally unrealistic that IronMan could be clipped by the wing of a Raptor and not blow the plane, and himself up in the process. Can we just get a lil more realism from Hollywood? Sheesh.

And I seriously don't think a biochemical accident will make someone turn green and grow really big when they are angry. Gosh hollywood....how about being realistic and just showing the accident killing Bruce instantly, like it would really happen in "real life."

And a drunken superhero willingly going to prison? Come on! That's totally unrealistic on MANY fronts. There are no superheros that can fly and if there WERE, they surely wouldn't DRINK.

Gosh I wish Hollywood would be more realistic.

You're right. It is useless to debate the "hidden meaning" of a movie when there likely is none. You didn't right it, and I didn't write it. Some guy who makes a living writing movies wrote it. Whether or not he has a vendetta against a country or not, we'll never know. However, I seriously doubt there was some dark, smoke-filled room with a committee sitting around wondering what country they could villify next.

That's what Transformers ended up becoming, since all the "autobots" were GM vehicles. I still had fun watching it though. It was funny, action-packed, and just kicked ass.

Hell, even the morning news seems to have a sponsor these days.

You don't understand what I'm saying sorry. The bad guys probably would be French in a French film because they see no reason to cast the bad guy as someone else to win popularity to a home audience.
