quote:
ORIGINAL: cloudboy I saw it LAST NIGHT and I thought the film was POOR. Hero: Indiana Jones: (Ageless, Agile, 9-lives v. aging, less capable, and more vulnerable) Villain: Dominatrix Style Russian KGE Agent: (Pretty, Brunette, single-minded, devoted to Stalin) Hero's bastard son: (A 50s style rocker.) Hero's ex lover: (Bitter x-girlfriend who aged poorly.) Lunatic Sage: (Enables the writers to move a plot along by hocus-pocus.) Action scenes: (Entail visual appeal but no suspense.) No character is two dimensional, and old formula of IJ action seems pointless and silly throughout. Ending is a jungle-location ripoff of the FIRST MOVIE. Other irritations: Movie trivializes nuclear weapons, likens the earth and nature to a theme park, and confuses the PAST with historical props. For me to be more engaged, the adventure has to have some sense reality, history, and adult tensions to it. It was awful- I'll grant you that it was just a terrible movie. But Karen Allen is still beautiful. Her smile was one of the few redeeming features of this movie. I turned to the friend I was watching this with at the "snake scene" and said "Wouldn't the pulling have pulled the snake apart?" She turned and looked at me and said "Of all the improbabilities currently flashing before our eyes, THAT is what you are focusing on?" Sigh.
