Got to finish chuckling about the pomposity of "Broken doms want broken subs. I would never..."

Several thousand years ago, a Greek guy called Socrates pointed out that anyone who considers themselves wise is simply demonstrating their lack of wisdom in their inability to identify all the ways in which they are not. Of course they did kill him for saying what no one wanted to hear.

In the same way, given no one I've ever met is entirely, perfectly, gloriously healthy, those who need to go around declaring their stability and superiority over other groups are, almost certainly, the most screwed up of all. At least those who recognize they have short comings are taking the first step on the path to trying to improve them.

Of course, I could be wrong. I may just not have met anyone as awesome as many of the people above. Given the Dalai Lama, arguably the closest thing to an enlightened person on earth right now, admits that he sometimes gets pissed off and shoots at birds (he sucks so he misses) to relieve his frustrations, my guess is I'm pretty spot on that no one's issue free.

There's an old physics question:

If you want the drink to be warmest when you drink it, do you add milk to coffee and then wait ten minutes or wait ten minutes and then add the milk to the coffee?

The answer is that you add the milk first. Yes, it cools the coffee but the coffee has less of a temperature difference with the air around it now and loses heat more slowly. You keep a bigger temperature difference, it loses that heat even faster, then the milk added at the end cools it even more.

Rather than knocking those who appreciate the broken, here's an alternative hypothesis:

Some dominants recognize the way they are and their potential to help others who are the yang to that ying live more fulfilling, happier and successful lives. In its own way, it's a kind of service, doing something positive for others.

Those in the greatest need are, by the same measure, those who can often be helped the most. If a life is already great, only so much improvement can be brought to it. If a life is really struggling, the potential to make a huge difference in it is there.

There's more to it. If broken is taken to mean unfixable, that's a losing premise. If broken is taken to mean someone who's revelling in their being broken, sucking up attention with absolutely no desire to come out of that attention gaining space, it's a losing premise as well.

But, if we simply mean "has issues that could really use help" then, if the dominant's reward is in seeing the quantity of improvement they can bring to someone else's life by being who they are, that would explain much of the appeal.

The great things about a diverse community is everyone's different. Some dominants love submissives who are in a great place in their lives, others love helping those who aren't, then there are those who just revel in the dark and dirty. Everyone gets to find their own match. It's just a shame when, so often, we seem to be unable to comprehend why other people seek different things to ourselves, assume the worst about them, and need to put them down.
