Because it hurts like hell? 
It also requires the administration of anesthetics, and it will allow the fluid that supports the brain to seep into the body cavity, if it is made the tiniest bit too deep or too large, it will cause severe medical problems, and that's before consideration about infection.

Bet you didn't find anything on the net about do it yourself transplants either.   Care to guess why?

Edge play my ass, this is a very real medical procedure and would require at least two people with medical licenses.

This isn't edge play.

This is praticing medicine without a license. This is something that even done correctly has effects beyond playtime.

This is being stupid and buying into what ever the "Dominant" tells you.

i am just not sure what things they want to nail...cause i have seen breasts and penises...but the porn people usually do it through pre pierced holes...

Lumbar punctures are evil. They go past sadistic to smeone who is loking to destroy you physically. Why would omeone want it? Easy, likely to see if you are stupid enough to agree. There is nothing to be gained from it, so it might be a test. Or, a figment of your imagination.

Status: offline 		Because his definition of "edge play" is doing something incredibly dangerous for the rush of (hopefully) getting away with it.  Treat his request the same as you would a Dom who wanted to put you in a phone booth with several rattlesnakes for 10 minutes.  If you manage to make it out OK, you will have scratched his itch for tempting fate, and, of course, he'll think you're the coolest sub around and most likely want to try something else along these lines with you.  If you don't, you'll end up in a wheelchair (or worse) and he'll end up in jail.

Is it worth it?  Only you can decide.  Weigh the upside vs. the downside.  Welcome to adulthood.

The fact that they posited doing something highly illegal as part of WIITWD, and then vanished is entirely their choice, and leaves behind an impression that is quite frankly, worthy of ridicule.

Status: offline 		lumbar puncture is NOT! play if anyone is or has done this they need to be stopped. reported to AMA and sent to prison. no one in their right mind would want to do this. I'm a pain slut and a nurse and this just scares me. if any Dom or Top suggested this to me i would run away fast.

First, I agree that this is way beyond my comfort zone in regards to risk and that I do not like the implication that something that could leave someone paralized with just the slightest of mistakes is in anyway part of edge play.  I think this is best left to a highly skilled professional and only if absolutely medically necessary.  My mom had one done but only because she was slowly dying and they were trying to figure out why. 

I am curious as to why you consider this highly illegal as opposed to other things done in BDSM that are also illegal.  Why is this a law that shouldn't be crossed and crossing others is okay?

i touched a nerve...i thought i might...but if you really think about what i said youll see that i only held up a mirror....i am not in judgement... but i do find that when we jump on new question askers the way we historically have done...that it makes me more squicked then the question that was asked.

also kyra says more eloquently then i have the skill set for...but it was a question that crossed my mind....

and lastly, our miliage may differ but to me no question is truly worthy of ridicule....and i am open to being proven wrong on this, so please give me an example of a question that where it would be ok to make the question asker feel small or less than or humiliated because he/she wanted to know something?

I don't think it answered the question of "why" a "Dom" would want to do one on a submissive. Actually, that question is one that can only be answered by him....but as rational people we have to assume that his reasoning is irrational as there is no good reason outside of a medical setting to consider doing such a thing.

The OP is mostly likely a one hit wonder, but there are still lots of folks who never post and simply read who might say .. "Oh, edgie! I wanna do that!" That's why I posted the link. Even if it's not needed for the general public, it's better to be armed with knowledge than unarmed.
