To clarify a bit, I know very well that animals not only have feelings, some are capable of conceptualisation and even inter-species communication. There is lots of evidence for both. However, where I agree with Lawrence, twit or not, is that " I have never seen a wild thing sorry for itself." . Think about it. Self pity requires a belief in a self which is separate from "other"' I.e. nature itself. While animals also, no doubt , feel pain of various sorts, I doubt they suffer from self pity. To believe otherwise, IMHO, is to engage in another singular human activity, projecting one's feelings and perceptions on to other beings as well as anthropomorphism. Besides, LadyH, everyone knows parrots are avian perverts ! I always get a boner when ya call me "Charles" in that tone. [8D]

So. . . I tried to be a good mommy today. I became very frustrated with the baby food jars with Butterhead. It was a pain always making sure I had which foods she needed when and throwing baby food away. With Roscoe, I have decided that I will make my own baby food. I have my baby food cookbook which discusses the storing and freezing of the baby food and which foods for when. YAY! Roscoe is teething. And NO, Jeff, he is not ready for pizza crust. He has a swinging chair that has a tray with it. He has begun chewing on the tray. Since I was at the "Hippie Chow" store today, I thought that I would pick him up some cookies to practice his munching skills and eye and hand coordination skills with. I bought organic honey graham sticks. They even had Elmo on the box. I brought them home. I showed the other half. I put them on the shelf. About an hour later, I realized my screw up. Roscoe is 5 months old. He cannot have honey. Especially NOT organic honey. Oy Vey! Who would have thunk that I would have tried to do my baby in today. sigh At least the sweet potato that I am cooking for him should be okay.

What is the reasoning for no honey, Aylee? The allergens from the pollen?

Their digestive systems are alkaline, not acidic, so they do not kill the spores in the honey which can lead to botulism and other "food poisoning" issues that can kill them. That honey thing is an easy trap to fall into. I, too, caught myself more than once just in time before giving the boys something with honey in it. Especially irritating are baby products containing honey.

I used to give Lizard children's Advil before going to the doctor so she would not be so fussy afterwards when she got her shots. Mom used children's aspirin on us. I feel for little Roscoe. Shots are not pretty when you are young. Mean needles and mean doctors (and state laws). How is he doing anyway? Growing like a weed yet?

Nephew update: The little guy has out grown ALL the clothes his grandmother sent him and is still growing. He seems to be able to wear outfits for about a week before they are too small.

After today, there will only be one more. It is a HUGE shot. He actually does pretty well with them. Crying during the shot, but once it is over, he becomes his normal happy baby self again. Defiantly growing like a weed. The average is for a kid to double his birth weight in the first 6 months. He has more than tripled. YAY! And he is not quite 6 months yet. He is rolling over (always in the same direction) and is working up to creeping. He really likes getting under the chair. Butterhead used to get herself under the couch. All you could see was this little teeny head sticking out. Yes, I let the kids play on the floor. You cannot fall off the floor. I dislike giving the babies Tylenol before their shots. You are supposed to get a bit sick from vaccines. It lets you know that they are working. Once he has had his first series of everything, then I will drug him before the shots.

Aylee, when my son was born, we had all the accoutrements of the first grandbaby. And pretty much passed them on brand new. Vincent didn't want to sit in the baby chair/rocker thingy, he wanted OUT! So, I spread a king sized sheet on the carpet to prevent rug burn and put him down. He was totally content to watch the world go by, as long as he was on his stomach. He was crawling by 5 weeks, up on his feet at 4 months. He scooted himself everywhere until he figured out how much faster he'd go if he got up on his hands and knees. Once he figured that out, there was no stopping him! (Or me....someone had to chase him!) One of our cats, Mickey, would lay down with him and watch him....if he got too far out of her security zone or doing something she thought was questionable, she'd come running to get me to tattle. Not that I left him alone in the care of a kitteh, but as he got older, I'd move around the apartment a bit. She was a great little babysitter!

Stale bagels for teething. Give Butterhead the honey grahams. Big sister treats! I remember when my oldest was born, somebody gave us a 24 month outfit which I thought was odd. But it was just lovely as she got older to have an outfit that fit.

The first time I used a microwave oven, I made teething biscuits. Unintentially. Ever put a bagel in for 2 minutes? It would've made a great hockey puck!!
