And which one of you is going to come over and comfort him all night from the gastrointestinal distress?

Infant = immature digestive system.

No brown rice until 6 months.
No onions or beans until 9 months.
No wheat until maybe 8 months and then it is only wheat germ.
No cheese until 8 months.
No meat until 7 - 8 months.

Then add 5 weeks to each of those because he was born 5 weeks early.

To avoid distressed baby syndrome in the middle of the night, I think that we will stick with my plan. Iron-fortified rice cereal, avocado slurry, and sweet potato slurry for now with rice rusks for hand to mouth training. Remember, he is supposed to be getting pretty much all of his calories from breast-milk.

Of course, Aylee, these suggestions are coming from *ahem* men!

That must be why they are mistaking hot dogs for food.

DesFIP -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (3/19/2012 5:57:57 PM)

Well of course. I will say that with my oldest, breast milk left her constipated big time. First additional food she had was an ounce of prune juice a day. After a while I started pureeing packages of prunes reheated with water to soften, and freezing them in ice cube trays. One cube of fruit melts pretty fast. You could do that with the other foods too.

He likes avocado?

I am planning to. That way I can make things in big batches and it will take up less space than a gazillion baby food jars on my shelf.

Yes. But this is also the child that actually LIKES his vitamin. He has had it two days in a row now, and lunges for the spoon. Of course, that is part of the reason that I have not given him bananas. They are so sweet that sometimes babies will stop eating the less sweet food. Since we are not serving more than one food at a time yet, I would prefer to stick with the veggies. Although. . . sweet potatoes are sweet. I may have to re-think the bananas.

KMsAngel -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (3/20/2012 12:01:55 AM)

the grandbaby seems to prefer whatever i'm having for breakfast to what she's actually supposed to be eating. in fact if i'm around eating whatever meal, mine seems best :P

much to her mum's disgust, she also loves avocado's. she gets it from me (and her other nonna), 'cause her parents both hate avo's.

frozen broccoli "trees" and frozen corn cobs are currently on fave list too. must be helping her non-existent teeth feel better. however, broccoli may be giving her terrible gas, so that's temporarily off the list.

i'm so glad i don't have to carry her to the bath when she's done eating.

outhere69 -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (3/20/2012 5:49:13 AM)

As an aside... REAL men don't bother with hotdogs. They eat Vienna Sausages straight from the can!

I dont remember all that from when my kids were babies

Aylee -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (3/22/2012 4:56:48 PM)

Butterhead starts pre-school on Monday. Today, I had to take her to the doctor for a physical. A physical. For pre-school. When did THAT start? I could understand wanting a copy of her shot record. But a physical? They don't even have gym class in pre-school. Maybe she will be learning to dig oil wells or something.

I am considering pre-printing a stack of notes explaining that I was not responsible for her fashion choices so that I will always have them ready. (Thanks Des!)

jlf1961 -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (3/22/2012 5:34:08 PM)

Aylee, the physical is part of the conspiracy to have all children screened for the draft.

DesFIP -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (3/22/2012 6:20:04 PM)

That is odd. Vaccination record sure. Unless they serve lunch and snacks and they've had parents forget to mention allergies? I can see that one pb & j given to a nut allergic kid could cause this.

Ummm. . . girls do not get drafted. It is cuz we make more cannon fodder.

One would think that I could write down that my child has a peanut allergy without needing a doctor's signature. (No, Butterhead has no known allergies.)

I dunno.

So. . . she has her physical and her backpack. She loves her backpack. Grandma was going to buy her backpack, but I could not find one like I had seen at some airport that was a plush elephant. So I got her one at Wal-Mart that has a lab puppy on it. And I found out at the check register, was on clearance. So. . . she adores, and keeps wearing, her cheap backpack.

I have also bought some snacks for her to take. She has some eating issues (the doctor is setting up some additional testing since there is no one local) so I was asked to provide food for snack time that she would eat, just in case. Not a problem. Apple slices are easy-peasy.

I am going to miss the spring sale (there is also a fall one) that a friend and I always attend together to outfit our children. I have asked her to buy Butterhead's clothes for her this time. She asked for a list of what was needed and I provided such. Then I received a call. "What are you trying to say? No baby slut wear?"

That is correct.

Not that I think that my friend would buy such, but I thought spelling out preferences would be the safest choice.

Let Pre-School Come!

ShaharThorne -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (3/22/2012 7:05:18 PM)

Baby slut wear?

Y'all need to see when my Mom was wearing when she was pregnant with brother M. Barely covered her belly.

I blamed Grandpa.

Baby slut wear would be micro minis for 6 month olds. No spaghetti straps, no mid-riff baring shirts, no bikinis.

I do not know if you have looked at toddler clothing lately, but much of it I consider inappropriate.

If an adult chooses to wear something, I have no problem with it. I may think that it is ill advised, but it is their body.

Dressing your child like a sex object is just WRONG, in my view. YMMV.

ShaharThorne -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (3/22/2012 7:19:12 PM)

How true. Baby M is always 'dressed' when she comes visits us. At her home on the other hand....clothing optional with the boots.

soul2share -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (3/22/2012 9:22:11 PM)

Aylee, I thought it was just me when it came to clothing for little girls. That maybe I was a prude or something. But when you look at most 10 year olds and they look 16, then there is definitely something wrong. Toddler clothing is also just as bad. I don't know, I just recall the number of unknown (to the public) pedophiles out there and just don't get it. I'm glad I had a boy.

I'm sure Butterhead will have a great time at school. And if they question her fashion choices, tell 'em to butt out, she's just showing her creative flair! "Arteests" are always questioned. [:)]

Toppingfrmbottom -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (3/22/2012 9:38:38 PM)

I read somewhere in some States kids.have to have had dental checkups before starting kindergarten, dunno if I read that right or misunderstood.
