For christ sake, this is not Mad Max world you know...[8|]

I don't plan on the apocolypse or a terrorist invasion while I am at the market and getting a pedicure..sheesh.

So perfectly verbose [:D] . But I have real issues to deal with before imaginary catastrophes :-).

Who cares about terrorists when this could happen to us tomorrow [sm=abducted.gif] ?
Be frightened. Be very frightened.

I don't plan on the apocaplyse when going to the store either. I do plan on potential accidents and other "small disasters".

I do plan against a potential Category 5 Hurricane in the summer.

I do plan against a fire at my apartment complex.

I do plan against a break in of my apartment.

Aynne, "they", are anyone who doesn't have a tin foil hat on....[;)]

camille65 -> RE: "How to Survive a Disaster" (6/6/2008 12:18:42 PM)

I agree. I plan for tornadoes. For blizzards.
It would be stupid to plan for no emergencies and instead try to sail blithly through life. I do not want to depend on the largesse of strangers in case of a natural diaster, I do what I can within reason to prepare myself. To take care of myself.

If half the people effected by Katrina had been truly prepared it would have made a world of difference.
Knowing basic First Aid, having canned food/water on hand etc is not excessive or a redneck gun-toting lifestyle. It is simply common sense.

In the winter I carry a small survival kit in my truck. Why die of exposure if I break down when I can avoid it by simple means?

Ssssshhhhh, don't say 'their' name, but they're [sm=whisper.gif] .

Ready to fight? [sm=club.gif]I wish I were into Ren Fair, then I'd have all the garb for battle [:o] .

kittinSol -> RE: "How to Survive a Disaster" (6/6/2008 12:23:34 PM)

Of course camille, within reason it makes perfect sense to be prepared for trouble, especially if one lives in an area where natural disasters occur regularly. Within reason!

But really, it takes a certain kind of mentality to get into the whole 'survivalist' way of thinking. There's a whole canyon of difference, and as I said... a growing industry.

Aynne -> RE: "How to Survive a Disaster" (6/6/2008 12:26:23 PM)

I don't, and if this horrible "whatever" comes to pass, "they" will find out that not all feminist libbies are anti-gun. I have a childhood spent on shooting ranges and in the woods of Maine,  so I am pretty sure that I have a fair enough chance. For now I will just be present in the moment tho and know that a .45 cal ruger is always within arm's reach, even at the pedicurist.  ( sorry kittin, hope you still love me even if I am packing? I only use my powers for good..promise. )

Christine I will make you a tin foil hat but I don't want to cover those luscious locks of yours, maybe a swanky little visor for you?

Cool, I just had a massive change of heart regarding firearms [:D] .

Aynne -> RE: "How to Survive a Disaster" (6/6/2008 12:34:47 PM)

Well I do hate to seem like I am touting firearms, but....I am divorced, I live in a pretty remote area, I tended bar for over a decade late at night and had to go out into a dark parking lot with cash and I have no kids ( thrown in for the safety issue ). Plus, my father made 100% certain my sister and I were both comfortable and proficient at a young age. But I don't extend it to the belief that you need 40 AK-47's to get the bad guy...there need to be limits and absolute certainty of safety and a certain skill level I hope. But kittin you would look hot all "armed up". Maybe a little .38 to start, snubnose, pearl handle, tucked into a sexy little D&G bag?[:D]

celticlord let's not start seeing eye to eye on things for god's sake man, stay on the dark side[8D] If you come any closer I am gonna have to make you  get a subscription to Mother Jones and start eating tofu.

Mother Jones might be entertaining (it makes for good comedy) but TOFU???????????

Yeah, that would require your .45 Ruger and LOTS of extra rounds....

Beef.....it's what's for dinner[8D]

Aynne -> RE: "How to Survive a Disaster" (6/6/2008 12:42:48 PM)

I think this has been my least productive day of the week...yep, I am sure of it.

kittin, you have mail. Take a peek and tell me if you see anyone..familiar looking? [&:]

Aynne -> RE: "How to Survive a Disaster" (6/6/2008 12:45:32 PM)

Camille, well said! Good girl!
Maybe you should go up to Kittin's place for a visit and take her to the range or the woods and teach her how to shoot.
Those Europeans are defenseless. (They really are! Besides G.B. I don't think they have three Air Craft Carriers to rub together between 25 countries!)
Aynne, that's funny, I was thinking of "Mad Max" too when I typed that post![:D]
And like Celticlord I'm also prepared for a fire in this condo complex, I have 100' of hose with a nozzle coiled up and ready to go not just for my place but in case any of my neighbor's places were to catch fire. And I've checked all the water spouts in the back of the buildings and they all work and they have a lot of pressure, much more than the inside sinks that probably have those "water savers" in them so that the condo association keeps the water bill down.
I can only get about 3 gal per minute out of the inside spiggots but probably 15-18 out of the outside ones, they shoot out water like a torrent!
Oh, and we have a few elderly people here that I keep an eye on too.
And when I do my rounds in the parking lot late at night or early in the mornings I know which cars are supposed to be here and which aren't (We have "guest" stickers for visitors.)
Kittin, I thought you lefties were "into" all that doom and gloom stuff?
You know, the wringing of the hands, the sky is falling, the earth is going to explode because of global warming, we'll run out of food, water, gasoline,...fill in the blank.
C'mon! Why are you getting all "cheerfull" on us here?
We want the *"Old"* KittinSol back, the negative thinking, the constant moroesness, the no faith in her fellow man, the backing of a withering political party.....well, you know what I mean!
C'mon kid, buck up!

Aynne -> RE: "How to Survive a Disaster" (6/6/2008 4:09:46 PM)

Popeye I thought you might have been having a mad max moment. I did love those movies, I miss Mel GIbson before he got all criminally insane and stuff...lol.  [:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)]
