You eat chocolate covered ants, don't you?  C'mon....admit it.....[image]http://www.collarchat.com/image/s3.gif[/image]

They are yummy, sweet and crunchy. I prefer them to raisinettes. And fire ants are better than hot sauce.

CJ sweetie, I know that you promised to cook for me while I'm in Florida, but I'm thinking maybe we should eat out.  Alot.

Cali

i can't do brains or tripe or gizzards...the texture is just too much for me.  however, it seems that deep frying anything makes it quite acceptable...[8|][:D]

True, but I've never heard that part compared to pork.  Fish occasionally....but not pork.

tsatske -> RE: Grits and other Horrid Foods (6/11/2008 10:09:02 AM)

I like most of the things people mention here.
If it is pickled, i love it. love saurkraut. love borsct.
If it comes out of the water, I love it. Sushi is one of my favorite things. seaweed is great.
In almost all cases, all kinds of food, the closer to raw, the better. I like my steak still mooing. I like my veggies, pasta, and rice all al dente. (which my father tells me is another word for 'undercooked')
I love game of all types - venson, rabbit, turtle. (the world has changed since i was a child, and squirrel, wonderful yummy though it was, is no longer safe to eat)
I love all kinds of organ meat - liver, chicken livers, gizzards, hearts, chiltins, muendo, everything.
Love all kinds of grains - grits, polenta, barley, kasha, millet, just everything.

there are a few foods i love, but refrain from anyway. I will not eat milk fed veal, because those animals have never tasted milk in their short lives, and it just gives me the heebie-jeevies, thinking of the way they are raised.
I am opposed to eating various animals whose intellegence probably approaches sentience, and on that theory, yes, ks, i should be refraining from pork, as well.

I have trouble eating animals that still look like the animal in question when it arrives on my plate. i love squid, but baby octopus looks like an octopus, with its little eyes staring at you. i can eat it when the Italians cook it, you know, deep fried in a crust, but not in a stirfry like that. I have never eaten pigs feet, for the same reason. They look, well, like pigs' feet.

My only totaly NO food - (and Master occasionally makes me eat it, the sadistic Ba... [:@] ) is iceburg lettuce. NASTY.[:'(]

YourhandMyAss -> RE: Grits and other Horrid Foods (6/11/2008 10:36:33 AM)

Pigs are also used on myth busters to test out myths. like the myth that if you get a certain medical procedure done and you have a tatto an mri will make your tat explode.

KS.. pigs are used in some cases to practice tatto art on (well, fresh pig skin, anyway)

Then there's the usual nasty stuff....liver, tripe, hearts, kidneys, oxtail, tongue.....[:'(][:'(][:'(][:'(]

I don't count Fla as south. It's an east coast thing Cj. [;)]

I been wracking my brain for something I don't like to eat and have come up zip. I'm an omnivore. Remember that cultures have, for centuries, found tasty ways to cook what was available. Some of that has evolved into cultural cuisine that is just yummy. It's not so much what you eat, it's how you fix it, imo.

Btw, Aynne, et al, remember that the South has quite a lot of coastline and we have wonderful seafood of all kinds, including sushi. Modern airfreight is a wunnerful thang.

kittinSol -> RE: Grits and other Horrid Foods (6/11/2008 11:05:24 AM)

Hey it's cultural. It's like cheese covered in penicilin: I love it, but a lot of people can't even look at a piece of Roquefort without vomitting a little bit in their mouths [8D] .

Aynne -> RE: Grits and other Horrid Foods (6/11/2008 11:16:48 AM)

Seriously, I cannot think of anything more yummy than stinky, gooey, runny, moldy french cheese. omg, so good. With a nice piece of dark chocolate and an aged port, hell yes.

Back on the gross topic. Just went to the health food place downtown for lunch, had a falafel sandwich. Wow. Imagine those sticks of seed they put in bird cages, and add some organic mayo. Yeah, we can pass on that one next time. [:'(]
