Status: offline 		Should a tattoo of an owners mark,or other means of showing ownership be always visible,or can it be just a way of letting the owned one know that they are taken?
Should the mark be visible to the vanilla world so to speak?

Completely and totally a personal decision by the one's involved. You can elaborate on different reasons they may say yes or may say no but it still boils down to it's the persons involved decision.

Status: offline 		Just because I believe in discretion I would put it somewhere that it would only been seen when necessary. This meaning not everyone in nilla world needs to see a tattoo stating owned & operated by Sir Domly Dom...though in circles where nudity is the norm I could see it being useful.

When i get the tattoo representing my Master's initial and BDSM, it will not be visible to my mother.

The day she asks, is the day i know she wants to know.

However, the tattoo representing my collar will be in a place that is visible most of the time. It will be more of a "Pretty tattoo I got," though. She'll take that poorly, but get over it. *l* my brother has a giant tribal lotus on his upper arm. She still loves him.

Status: offline 		I think that one must consider the possibility of a professional life for the person with the tattoo. Some workplaces are very very picky about such things. If the person with the tattoo has no job nor professional life it is then up to the preference and considerations of the Master/Mistress.
I personally love tattoos and my fiance has one on his upper left arm which is nice when he wants it shown and is also easy to cover up.

Status: offline 		i have two tattoos that i designed myself. They represent parts of my life that will be with me till the day i die. one has my daughters name. Would i ever get tattooed with my owners mark or name? no- there is no guarantee i will still be owned me in 5- 10+ yrs . Now a piercing sure thing

There is no set standard or protocol that I know of when it comes to marking or tattooing property. It is at the discretion of the Owner with consent from the sub/slave as to style and placement as she/he has to wear it for life.

Personally I like a mark that is visible to the public but more neutral, and one that is more blatantly D/s related to be more discreet, like on the pubis or sacrum.

I had my girl tattooed last spring with the name that I gave her. I selected the most respected tattoo artist in town and had a talented Calligrapher hand script the symbols that would represent her name in Chinese characters. The characters were delicate and beautiful so she could show it in public. W/we decided to have it placed at the top of her spine just below the collar/necklace that she always wears. The session was very sacred for U/us as she had asked me to read her O/our Contract as the mark was being inked into her skin.

Now everyone who sees it comments on it’s elegance and beauty. Originally there was also the characters meaning ‘Master’s precious one’ to be tattooed on her pubis, but at the last moment I decided that it was not necessary to add this. Marking her with the name I gave her was enough as W/we both knew that it represented Ownership. I relished knowing that the rest of the world would forever remain ignorant of its true meaning. It was O/our beautiful secret.

Well that is how W/we experienced it.

Status: offline 		i designed a tattoo out of rune symbols (a bindrune) that means possession and it was tattooed on my left thigh. i can hide it when i want, and although it may not have the part of the meaning that i initially had hoped for, it does translate to something more generalized and is a reminder of that part of me.

I am in favour of the discreet approach, for the reasons already mentioned, and the fact that how ever wondrous and impregnable, relationships do dissolve and in these cases, why put yourself though unnecessary embarassment and humiliation ?

Good point. My next girl will have twp tattoos or one tattoo and one brand. The brand will he high on the left thigh 1" x 1" square and will be the Gorean Keph The tattoo will be on her shaved pubis and will be a Celtic design to show my ownership and the bond between us.

Well for us my labia piercing that I got for him is (obviously) not visible and the brand is also not visible since its on my hip/asscheek. We have talked about a tattoo behind my ear of an owl, which is an egyptian hieroglyphic for M, the initial of his last name which I'm also branded with.

Status: offline 		my Master recently branded me on the upper part of the side of my thigh. We decided to do it there because it is always covered up by pants or a skirt, and also because i can easily pull down my pants/skirt a bit to show it off. :) We figure it's not really anyone else's business if we don't want it to be. He knows it's there, i know it's there, it was a big step for both of us and it makes us happy. :)

i'd be afraid of the pain..as well as very unhappy about undressing for a tat artist...and branding seems way beyond my pain threshold.

i love henna painting; i'd love to learn to do "tats" in henna; they last about two weeks. Be fun to use different designs, for different occassions. If i accepted a collar i would accept a tat, but not something that screams "BDSM" in a place where it shows; i am not "out" to my family.

No.. or at least I don't require it. But nilla society doesn't accept a branded slave well. I'd just as soon NOT open her up to nilla scrutiny. My brand is designed as a constant reminder to the slave of her position.

The collar however.. That is for people to see. That is the outward expression of ownership.

This is something that should be a personal decision based on how the parties involved feel about it. I can tell you that i would prefer to have mine visible to anyone and everyone. I have recently discussed having my next cutting be a facial cutting, a small design on the upper right cheek. I have come to the realization that this is my life...the only one that i will have, and i see no reason not to live it in such a way as to bring me the greatest possible happiness. That is why i am a slave.

sticking w/ the sub thing,lol, not ready for a collar/master quite yet, i need to do some exploring.
