For me i would like my tattoo to be where only my Dom would see, but that's just me. Beside, the decision would have to be His.

i'd be afraid of the pain..as well as very unhappy about undressing for a tat artist...and branding seems way beyond my pain threshold.

Most of the pain of branding is mental and of course the pain of it healing. But its not remotely unbearable. In many ways my outer labia piercing hurt much more than the branding (it was over faster though - the branding pain lasted about a month).

i don't have anything against tattoos...as long as they are on someone else. i am the only family member that does not have any tattoos or peircings...not that much into pain. it is a very hard limit for me and i'm glad my Mistress understands this. for me, if it came to a choice of getting a tattoo/ peircing or losing my collar, as much as i would hate to, i would have to give up the collar...it's non-negotiable.

I love piercings.. dont think it hurts at all....i have 9.. had more on past but took some off for personal reasons...
as for tattoos, its to soon even though i plan on getting a few ones that will be able to be hiden.
however I stick to the collar when it comes to being with Daddy, we are taking things slow. However, there are always future possibilities.

As everyone has said, that would be a very personal decision between the parties involved. The one receiving the mark should definately consider their professional and family obligations when it comes to things like this, as well as the concept of what would occur if the relationship didn't last forever. Certainly we all go into these things hoping for a lifetime commitment, but it doesn't always work out that way, and while you can end the relationship, removing a tattoo or branding can be far more difficult and expensive.

Personally, opting for something that would be visible only when desired would, in my opinion be the best way to go.

i love henna painting; i'd love to learn to do "tats" in henna; they last about two weeks. Be fun to use different designs, for different occassions. If i accepted a collar i would accept a tat, but not something that screams "BDSM" in a place where it shows; i am not "out" to my family.

I chuckled when I read this because the key factor for me in choosing tattoo placement is "How much will I have to take off to get it done?" LOL. That limits me to the back of my shoulders and my arms/legs, which in turn limits the ability to keep it hidden should I want to.

In the past, I've accompanied a few ladies to the tattoo parlour and stayed with them when they have been tattood or pierced in intimate areas. This was done for kloral support as well as a feeling of security.

At this tome I'm checking with QU (Queensland University) as I'm told that they include tattooing and some body mods as part of a fine arts degree. If I can complete and gain the accreditation for just the areas in which I have an interest I'll be looking at being trained in tattooing and branding with the surgical/medical cauterisation equipment.

That is the choice of the people involved. As for me, I prefer discretion, or at least a certain amount of understated elegance. :)

I love visible :) But then, I'm a big fan of tattoos.

My tattoos are highly symoblic, and mean thigns to me that no one else would know. And yeah, one of them includes "I like to get hit" and "I belong to my partner" :)

Personally, for private markings I prefer to design a tattoo or symbol using either/or the celtic knot work and'or the celtic morphic pattens. I use similar configuratuions when I'm engraving crystal glasses as gifts to family and sopecial people.

Purty. That's what I did too :) for the "yes I like kinky things" tattoo. (See my avatar)

I'm thinking about getting a book of kells animal as well, but that's getting weighed against an art nouveau moth :)

If you're willing to share I'd love to see either some of the tattoos you've designed or the engravings you've done. I have a thing for celtic/irish inspired knotwork.

As soon as I can get a scanner working, I'll be happy to share some of what I do.. I'm also rewriting the five books of the "Codices Venifica" which incorporates my original "Book of Shadows" using 9thC Irish unical script and illuminating the work page by page Book of Kells style using hand cut quills and rag paper which is the closest to [parchment in A2 size format to be bound between wooden covers covered in goat skin. (All hinges and lock will be hand made brass hinges and lock).

Wow. That is impressive. And believe me, I've studied enough history to know just how impressive that is. (I am in the SCA and my persona is 9thc Irish. 's my area of interest)

I'm curious, you're using the script, but what language are you chosing to write in? I'm unfamiliar with the "Codices Venifica" so perhaps that answers my question there, but I honestly don't know.

It -is- possible to get parchment or vellum I've found, but it's a bit hard to obtain here. I dunno what the availablility would be like where you're at, and I imagine you've already looked into this. :)

Wow. Thank you for sharing!

I would also be really interested in seeing your designs. We are desperate for insperation for a suitable celtic pattern for an intimate tatt, but find the ones at most parlours to be too tribal or zoomorphic (is that how you spell it?) for our tastes. They are also too 'perfect', we prefer the designs are not perfect as only the Gods were perfect in the eyes of the Celtic artist.

We have considered something from the book of Kells, and do have some artwork of our initials interwoven in a celtic pattern, but nothing has seemed quite right so far

I'm also ex SCA (I never bothered to maintain membership when I moved to Queensland). Parchment is available but not in the bulk quantities I want. The Codices when finished will run in excess of 2000 pages (my estimation) and it is a work of love. The language is english for it is a working copy or what may have been considered as my personal grimiors. The Codices venifica translates into "The Books of Sorcery" and encompases all the magickal writings I have accumulated over the last 37 years, and is the book which has all the laws etc of the Clan O'Sliabh which is my own personal group.

Master has just recently marked me, its a semi permanent marking in the form of a blood tattoo he did with a scalpel on my lower back (Its so beautiful). The only person who will see it is my massage therapist apart from Master. i like the symbology of markings.

I think it has been well established that it varies by the relationship and those in it.

So I will just add my view and go. I would neither get nor ask somebody to get a "career killer" tatto, piercing, or brand. But I have nothing against items that are visible in less "professional" clothing (or nude LoL). Heck I favor sleevless t-shirts becasue I LIKE my tatts visible when outof the office.

All of mine are either symbolic, or non-traditional characters. I have 2 4-5 inch diameter symbols, some kanji, and some runes. They all have meaning to me, and most people have to ask at the meaning. IF I were to be on either end of a tatto for a relationship it would be something of the same type, something people could say "cool" about but 90% of people wouldn't gather a meaning without asking. I liked the "bindrune" idea above, as it would always symbolize the relationship (even if it later failed) but would not leave anybody with another persons name on them for life (which I understand is annoying to later partners).

Nuke }:-

PS- OT but I am torn between some kind of tribal buffalo or the radiation symbol for my next non-BDsM Tatt...
