By the logic of the OP, the following are also not words:

email (alt. e-mail)
blog
google (used as a verb)
blurb
quiz
serendipity
squawk
meow
zipper
teetotal
pandemonium
genocide
prequel
webinar
cyberspace
catch-22
quixotic
quark

I could go on, but I think the ridiculousness of the original statement is readily apparent.

Language is alive and changes. 20 years ago this wasn't a word but today it is. There are all kinds of words that exist today that did not exist 50 years ago. We coin words as we need them. Ie; technocrat, ringtone, ginormous etc.

And lookie here, a citing for domme. Care to eat crow?

I tend to view "Domme" as a colloquial term. But, I make up my own words. ie. testes=giggleberries. I doubt you'll find giggleberries in your nearest dictionary, but I use it anyway. And, everyone's life has gone on despite my use of words that I just make up on the spot.

Why does it NEED to be said? Is it your belief that the rest of us are incapable of knowing if a word is real or useable?

It always amazes me when otherwise articulate Women use that imitition of a word

I've actually seen the word used more my men than by dominant women.

I know I'm a woman and I'm dominant, I don't need a special word or made-up form of a word to tell me that. I think the only people who do may have a bit too many concerns about the gender identity of other people.

For me...

Hi, I'm TammyJo, I'd say I was a dominant with some minor sadistic leanings. I don't see the need for any more than that.

Well, I'll be damned.  No authoritative dictionary (apparently) includes 'Domme' as a noun.  It does appear in such things as the Urban Dictionary; I guess in a few more years it'll work its way into the lexicon enough to be added to the Oxford English Dictionary.

New words emerge and are added (somewhat slowly) to dictionaries all the time.  Language is not static; it is fluid.

Whatever a woman chooses to label herself is fine by me; I think we all know what a 'Domme' is.

Yes, it exists, and they are real words, but for me its political.  To feminize a word that is neuter to begin with is to diminish the female who assumes the role.

I never saw the word domme until about 1999 or so, on the internet.  It has now infected the land of real-time play, and frankly, I find it as offensive as any other method by which people attempt to use language to diminish me becasue of my gender.  It is disheartening to see those of us who would most benefit from a paradigm shift perpetuate it.

LOL, do you mean dominant instead of dominate, which is also  an adjective in the form of dominant, and verb in the form of dominate????

edited to add: I have read nothing but the OP and my reply is on page 3, I am sure this has been covered.

Humans make up new slang that later become actual words all the time. If we didn't, we'd all be speakin' the same language. "Ain't" is in the dictionary now, although many do list it as "nonstandard" or something. We are developing language here, if kicking and screaming.

Oh dear, not a good start. You have stirred up a lot of negativity but for what purpose?

Although generally I prefer not to use gender specific names where possible, I make an exception with Domme as it does serve a purpose. In our community, a lot of communication goes on via the internet and written word. Describing myself as a Domme instantly makes the reader aware that I am a female dominant. In a lot of cases, the gender distinction may be quite important. I like the word Domme as some of the others are just as gender specific and less appealing to me. I don't use Domina, Dominatix or Fem Dom for those reasons.

I am not an owner so I can't use that. I use Mistress ( rather than Master) as it means female head of my household or woman in authority which sums me well. However, it is a relative term...I am p's Mistress and have authority only over him, so for general use I am a Domme and happy about it.

Wow man. I mean, like, far out. So he comes along with this OP, and a heavy OP just trying to blow a few minds along the way by saying that 'domme' ain't groovy, and that 'Dominate' is the cool word to use.

I just say there's no need for such a bad trip. Peace to one and all.

Hmmmmm... an artifact from the paradigm of female supremacy somehow diminishes you because it makes a distinction based on gender...

So are you planning on bombing any gynecologists offices?

You are correct that domme does not have its own designation in any dictionary of authority.  However it is held in various urban and sex dictionaries.
Dominate is a verb, not a noun.  Therefore one cannot be 'a' dominate'(edit changed from dominant because of the wonderful Ravenmuse who corrected my typo).  But then, that could be said for submissives also.  In a traditional and grammatical sense.
Your typing skills are also being questioned, which does not help your 'cause'.
