Ok, so how do we address the legitimate needs of the uninsured, without putting government in charge of everyone's healthcare? I think the solution is in changing how our safety net operates. A year ago, I was one of those 22 or 47 million. I changed jobs, and had no medical coverage for about five months. My options were a little better than some, in that I could have visited a local veterans clinic, presented my DD214, and would have been seen by a doctor for free. Expanding free clinics, and funding neighborhood urgent-cares could go a long way towards taking the stress off our emergency rooms. Reworking the guidelines to qualify for catastrophic illness coverage would also be a very good step.
