SilverWulf -> RE: McCain Economic Advisor Phil Gramm says We are a nation of whiners ... (7/12/2008 8:17:28 PM)

I have worked in and around the aviation industry off and on for several years (A&P/IA) and have heard many times that on appearance alone, I would make a great pilot.  Unfortunately, last time I tried I couldn't get a class 1 medical since I don't have near perfect eyesight... but passed the DOT physical for a class A CDL just fine, go figure.

As much as what DA says may disgust you, it's they way business is done, and not only in aviation.  When clients are paying tens of thousands of dollars for a service, they expect to be treated like Kings.  Part of that is providing a certain image, and an attractive and well groomed flight crew is one small part of that image.

Have you ever been in the offices of a large heavy equipment dealer? The secretaries that work in the public eye and who deal with the customers directly could all be Playboy models.  I highly doubt that is simply coincidence.

How about an investment firm?  Walk in to one sometime and drool over the receptionist, I guarantee she'll be a babe.

Book or magazine publisher, corporate headquarters for any store you can mention, etc... are all going to have smokin' hot babes directly in view of the public, get used to it.

Hiring strippers?  Great move.  It's sad that you think strippers in general are dumb air-heads.  I don't frequent the strip clubs, but I have known several girls over the years who danced and not one of them was anywhere near dumb.  Most were paying their own way through school or had recently received their degrees, both under-graduate and graduate.

If a hot dumb one happened along and tried to become a flight attendant, she would be back in the strip club so fast her head would spin.  You see, there is a fair amount of training involved.  Tests, drills, certifications, various requirements to be met, and all of those things are on-going to be able to keep the required certification to be able to keep the job.

You don't seem to have any concept of business and how to run a successful one.  One of the things I noticed is that you are railing against making money <gasp>  how dare a business make money!!  Well, how can I put this.... The most important job a business owner has, is to figure out how to make money, how to keep making money, and how to make as much money as possible while spending as little as possible in the process.  Profit is not a dirty word (despite common misconception)  without profit, there would be no jobs, period.

No Mike, there is actually someone who can express my philosophy much better than I can [:D]  My theme song...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqWMswImFwM
On a lark I checked the link You provided, must You go the extra step in all instances to prove You have no sense of taste...Brittany is or was the flavor of the month for teen-aged girls...not men of distinction and class...Try a guy named Sinatra I hear he has done some good stuff...plus it has the added vlue of actually being age appropriate...IMO

For your information I dont date or fuck elderly italian men being fed mush through nasal gastric tubes so Sinatra is not age appropriate... I grew up listening to John Cougar, Springesteen, The Bangles, Bannanarama, etc. - the 80's not the 50's LOL  Its harder than hell to have 19 year olds pole dance to Sinatra so I listen to stuff age appropriate for the women I date.. As for "Brittany" - to quote the first line of the song "Its Britney Bitch" [:D] (Not to be confused with my BrittneyLee {note the differen spellings?) This is MY WORLD [:D] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mcb1YwswyNA and thats the mindset of the women I date....

slvemike4u -> RE: McCain Economic Advisor Phil Gramm says We are a nation of whiners ... (7/12/2008 8:26:28 PM)

NeedingMore You done went and got me mad didn't ya...LOL..I am not quite 50 and back in the day I attended Led Zep,Who,Queen ,Stones and Guns and Roses concerts(most of these on multiple occasions)to name a few....in addition I had the good taste and the good fortune to see Sinatra live at Carnegie Hall in 77 or 78 (the late 70's are a little hazy)he was fantastic and Buddy Rich as his warm up act was also a treat...now some artists are totally age specific...IMO Sinatra is required listening for anyone who considers themselves to be musically well rounded no matter the age...end of Sinatra rant and just my opinion

Silver, thank you and you are right on. Each of the strippers turned cabin crew used by my company are trained to the Basic EMT level , with defibrillation. They have to make it through the dunker once a year, they have to make it through the life raft drills, hypoxia / rapid decompression in an altitude chamber, they drill in firefighting with live burns twice a year, they go through security awareness and Hazmat recognition once a year. They are also given 2 hours of right seat in a simulator to know how to work the radios etc in the event one pilot were incapacitated and she needed to help with radio and checklists etc... They are held to high standards.... Sounds like she is just bitter that they are afforded the opportunity to do more than lap dance.... You know, damn me for giving the pretty girls a chance... LOL

This just goes to show how well the official Houston Strip Club training program is working. [;)]

The hard time finding a job might have something to do with two basic factors.

1. Ohio (rustbelt economy)
2. Rural Ohio (even worse for prospects)

Now being there to begin with one can't be blamed for in the least, however your feet are not welded to the state. Ancestors of most of ours crossed an ocean, crossed the US on the Oregon Trail, etc. survived a Depression, multiple recessions, Rationing during WWII. Compared to them "we" are pretty much a bunch of whinners.
No opportunities in your state MOVE, that is the history of the people here in the US. Connection to family, not wanting to leave "home" and framiliar suroundings? Sorry but you make a choice to move or to stay and with that choice there are consequences. I've moved 5 times (major moves) in my adult life each time for better opportunities.

Hanable -> RE: McCain Economic Advisor Phil Gramm says We are a nation of whiners ... (7/12/2008 10:50:15 PM)

Leatherist -> RE: McCain Economic Advisor Phil Gramm says We are a nation of whiners ... (7/12/2008 11:05:36 PM)

He is so freaking right that it is not even funny. And for exactly the same reason that we went into a "recession" right after 911. Because people were *stupid* and let thier fears rule them.

Which is exactly what the arab manipulators wanted us to do.

They wanted to change our way of life, and looking at the past 7 years since then, they succeeded beyond thier wildest expectations. The rest of the world hates us more than ever-our rights are being eroded, and our economy ruined. Out of control speculation has stripped our economic guts-and the "war" has ended up with us selling our asses to china.

Do you think that the senate appropriations we hear about are funding ALL of this war? Hell no. BILLIIONS of dollars in bonds have been sold to china to cover much of it.. We are DEEPLY in debt to a repressive communist regime. Thanks george-way to go!

They have the industrial base we USED to-and if we had to fight a major war now-we would be screwed beyond all reason. The capacity no longer exists within our borders.

But what do we do? We whine about it. When what we SHOULD be doing is supporting our own. Supporting companies that give americans job security. And boycotting those that profit from cheap foreign labor at our expense. Cutting OFF the funds that illegal aliens are sending out of the country-further decreasing the value of our dollars.

Putting some TEETH into ICE enforcement laws penalizing those who employ them-instead of looking the other way.

My advice? Put your money where your mouth is. Or shut it.

Britney Spears? OMG that seriously explains it all. Of course he worships a fat classless no talent hillbilly has been baby breeder. God god man, don't expect him to like Sinatra Mike. Besides, anyone that can admit to listening to Britney and Bananarama, the music of chubby pre-teen girls, does not have the chops to appreciate Sinatra.  Leave this thread this instant and have a martini and listen to some Frank. Hurry before that Britney video has time to do any damage.[;)]

Fast Reply:

The worst thing Gramm said isn't that we are a nation of whiners, but that the recession is just a mental recession. OK, that's ridiculous. We're all supposed to say "abracadabra" (and really mean it!) and the housing crisis will disappear?

A real crisis will exist when a Democrat is in the White House, until then, its denial.

Yes, we've been hearing this same tired refrain since NAFTA was passed in the Clinton years.  So what happened?  We were told that this was going to be a high-tech service economy.  Everyone went out and sought computer training.  We were supposed to be the leading edge of a new economy, where manufacturing was to be replaced by equally high-paying technology jobs.  Ten years later and all the computer jobs started being outsourced to India and other countries.  Just like the manufacturing jobs.  Cheap labor and corporate greed.  What should people train for next?  The only jobs that are going to be left are at the place with the blue vests and smiley faces that stocks their shelves with everything China can produce.

Quit your whining. Believe in big business and their big government whores. Haven't you learned that it's unpatriotic to question who benefits? Just bend over and smile as you take it like a good, obedient little taxpayer. Then tell others to do the same.

No opportunities in your state MOVE,

..it's good advice in theory Archer.  Echoes the charming Norman Tebbit back in the UK during the 80's, when he told people to 'get on your bike'. Thing is, as another poster has pointed out, one needs a certain amount of cash to move home. Especially if dependents are involved. Things get more complex the more problematic ones circumstances are. It may work for ablebodied single people, but it's not necessarily possible for everyone.

When was the last time you were on an airline, or even looked around in an airport at some of the pilots and flight attendants?  They look exactly like everyone else.  Some tall, some thin, some fat, some short.

You haven't needed to have "near perfect eyesight"  for a first class medical since the 1970's.

In a commercial operation, the appearance of the cabin and flight crew is not such an issue.  I was referring to the world of corporate operations.

To my knowledge, the FAR's haven't been ammended enough to allow me to obtain a first class medical.  Next time I have a flight physical I'll check again, like I do every time I go.

Archer -> RE: McCain Economic Advisor Phil Gramm says We are a nation of whiners ... (7/13/2008 11:46:13 AM)

You're 19 years old getting the money to move is less problematic than for many folks.

Step 1 apply to colleges in states where the economy is growing (ie go south young woman)
Step 2 apply for financial aid at said college.
Step 3 find job in area of local college
Step4 work your way through college working jobs in the area
Step5 graduate and find work in your field of study

Granted there is a slightly more difficult problem for those older and more established as philosophy pointed out the problem is as my parents always asked me "So you have a problem what ya gonna do about it?" Give up before you even start? (whine) or are you going to act?
People have historicly taken their last bit of money arriving in the new better opportunity area with NOTHING. What difference does it make where you are with NOTHING? you can spend that last money surviving in an area of no or little opportunity and end up with NOTHING or you can spend it to go someplace where there is opportunity and you end up with NOTHING.  The difference is in a new area there is opportunity to start over.

They have.  Trust me.

As to the first part, go to your local airport and visit the general aviation terminal.  You'll find the same with corporate flight crews.  There are only so many beautiful people to go around, and apparently they all live in Houston.
