Mike he is just the President that got caught.  You know as well as I do that he isn't the only President in history to do sneaky, dirty shit while at the helm.  As for the secret war in Cambodia, I happen to believe that was the right decision.

......how am i holding law in contempt when i argue that it should apply to all, equally?

Allowing Congress to usurp the job of the judiciary, by holding criminal proceedings, and dishing out punishments to those who aren't allowed legal protections available in court, doesn't strike me as what is meant by seperation of powers or due process...this would be the same Congress that talks about passing non-judicially reviewable statues.

Don't know why the worst case/slippery slope outcome of that sort of thing doesn't bother others, but it certainly bothers me.

actualy.. this is how it works.. there is a *REASON* why it is called Checks and Balances.

http://cahsa.info/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/checkandbalance.jpg

Both the Judicial and Legislative have to be in accord to boot someones ass out. Judical determines if the actions were legal or not. Then the Legislative try and impeach. However.. it is usaly the Legislative branch that brings up the issues first to the judicial branch for a review.

They both have to work together.

Civics 101 folks. They are working as they are ment to work. Legislative branch is there to be the voice of the people. it balances out the voice of the prez, and past or current prez elected yahoos in the supreme court. They are supposed to all balance each other. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Separation_of_powers

Be warry when they ask for more executive powers... and they have the whole last 7 years.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1KNlww4hdE

Gwyn

And you have comepletely missed the point that Congress is calling for ignoring Civics 101 and giving themselvesextra  power that would undo checks and balances.

McCarthyism was 'as they were meant to work?  Star chambers is 'as they were meant to work'? Non-judicially reviewable unrepealable laws is 'as they were meant to work'?

BS.

Hey patriots, how about a president who leaks and reveals the name of a secrete CIA  NOC agent?!?!!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
How does the completely political persecution and un-successful impeachment of Clinton,compare to committing treason?
Treason, is a criminal matter.Let alone the security interests of our nation,let alone the endangerment of our under-cover agents,let alone the endangerment of all of the contacts that NOC agent had at the time they were revealed,let alone the fact that you just shouldn`t do such a reckless,stupid thing.
You could list a thousand silly and half-true talking points about Clinton`s successful presidency,and they wouldn`t equal the the harm done by this act of treason.
If John McCain manned up,acknowledged that Bush and the neo-cons did this ugly thing and then repudiated it,and promised and swore on his children`s eyes, that he wouldn`t reveal the IDs of undercover agents if he were president,then he would earn some respect w/ me.
Until then,he`s just like every other neo-con/republican, trying their best to avoid the subject and no better than the perps who did it.
The republicans are going to have to explain this in reasonable terms at some point.
And even after they can explain and square this maleficence with the American people in some way,it will take a very very long time to live this down.
Maybe our grand kids(if they survive our folly) will be able to,someday.
Hey Owner59 et at liberats:
How about some substantive, moreover, irrefutable/undeniable proof that President Bush himself outted Valerie Plame?  Nevermind, there ain't none.
How about the Pentagon recently revealing that it just finished transferring almost 600 Metric Tons of "yellowcake" from Iraq to Canada?  You do know what "yellowcake" is, don't you?  That's the stuff that's used to fuel nuclear power plants and/or make nuclear weapons. Since Iraq has never had any nuclear power plants or a program to build any, that leaves only two reasons why it had so much of the stuff...to make nuclear weapons or give/sell/trade it to those who want to make nuclear weapons.
How about Obama the Messiah recently saying that the biggest threat facing the world today is terrorists getting hold of material to make nuclear weapons?  In light of the above it's rather obvious that President Bush realized that back in 2003.  Obama the Messiah has repeatedly viserally attacked President Bush for going after Saddam Hussein in Iraq rather than the terrorists in Afghanistan but that "yellowcake" was in Iraq not Afghanistan.  It's rather obvious that Obama the Messiah knows as little about other countries as he does about his own, and since he doesn't even know how many States comprise the United States of America that isn't very much at all.
Treason is indeed a criminal matter. In 1971, during his sworn testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, your last candidate for POTUS, John F. Kerry, self-incriminated himself not only as a traitor but a war criminal as well. How about explaining why he wasn't even charged with treason or war crimes, much less tried, convicted and imprisoned for same?  Nevermind, on Innauguration Day former liberat POTUS Jimmy Carter issued an Executive Order granting pardons to draft-dodgers and military personnel who had engaged in non-violent anti-war activities during the Vietnam War.  Note that Jimmy Carter also directed the Secretary of the Navy to have Kerry's original dischargefrom the Navy reviewed, whereupon the Kerry's original discharge was upgraded to "Honorable" (from ??) almost a decade after Kerry should have received an "Honorable" discharge had he in fact served honorably.
Obama the Messiah is a condescending elitist FRAUD.
There was no yellowcake in Iraq, They tried to buy some in the 1990s and did not get it.
But there were going to be euros instead of dollars if this madman wasn't stopped. And the US knew he was a madman when they put him in power when they didn't like Iran. Remember the hostages ?
Ah, partisan bickering over which festering pile of feces is the more offensive smelling. Arguing over which candidate is better between the Democrats and Republicans is usually like arguing which side of a bridge it would be best to plummet over.
Ok, we can count you as one who doesn't care if McCarthyism resurfaces.
Given the Executive Branch's TSA and their Million Person Blacklist, a Congressional blacklist with ONLY 50 PEOPLE on it would be a breath of fresh air.
I would be a republican, if there were any.
I used to be a liberal, but I've grown more conservative with age.  I've swung over to the Republican party, but I cannot recognize it any more.
It used to abhor spending.  Now it has set records for spending, after Clinton managed the budget responsibly.
It used to believe in limited government.  Now it is expanding executive powers at a breakneck pace.
It used to be leery of foreign entanglements.  Now it has invaded Iraq and Afghanistan, and threatened North Korea and Iran.
Where did the party go?  I'd like to join it.
+1
Do the conservatives on this site ever fact check stuff?  That wasn't quite the story:
"This article from the AP was posted yesterday, reporting the sale and transport of 550 metric tons of yellowcake uranium from Iraq to Canada. Some of the leading right wing blogs were quick to hail the find as a significant victory for the Bush administration and proof of Saddam’s WMD program, but as Daniel De Groot at Open Left Points out, their celebrations may be a bit premature, if not dishonest:
I noted last night that a supply of uranium from Iraq had been successfully moved to Montreal in secrecy. If you check into this, you’ll quickly find that the uranium a) was not weapons grade and b) was well known to the UN and IAEA and was being stored legally by Saddam’s government. It was legally in Iraq according to international law. I wondered if the right wing echo chamber would use this as “proof” that the WMD claims were true after all. I got even better than I hoped, as not only do they use it that way, but they reveal how dishonest they are by the way they have done this.
Top recommended post at Redstate:
Yellowcake uranium found in Iraq, Saddam’s legacy, Bush was right!
Well…not so much."from Crooks and Liars.
Ohhhh gotcha! Unfortunately they played at like 4 p.m. so I did not get to see that performance, but my friends said it was excellent.  I didn't get there until early evening, but it was fantastic, Pam Baker, ad Deja Blues were my two faves I think...there was a bit of beverage consumption as I recall
