When i use eyelash yarn i pair it with a regular yarn - as in the chemo cap.

I have that pattern, and the yarn, but my friend did not need chemo! They did a mastectomy, but then found that the KIND of cancer was not what they thought. So now I feel... hmmm... about making it for HER, but it matches her hair color.

Okay, the baby blanket---woven or knitted? I would love to weave it, but my loom is a 24 inch, and the finished item would be 23 inches wide max. Not wide enough, huh? I wish I could remember how big I made little Gabe's,,, and yeah, I could just ask his MOM duh.

pissthirstysub -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/15/2010 12:28:35 PM)

I don't know much about weaving, but couldn't you make it in parts?

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/15/2010 3:26:01 PM)

Hibi, I am planning to go to Hill County weavers and seeing what they got.  This old dog can learn a thing or 2...LOL!

I am so totally making a sock monkey for the baby!! Her mom says she thinks little one will look like a monkey because dad has a monkey nose! So, SOCK MONKEY and a blankie... or a dress, since she DID get a nice blankie...

Someone point me to the caffeine...

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hookers (8/16/2010 10:39:38 AM)

I got my Happy Hooker book...[sm=cheering.gif]

fluffypet61 -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/16/2010 10:41:51 AM)

i'll have to check at the library for that one.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/16/2010 10:44:07 AM)

I have that book! Sitting on the shelf, somewhat dusty, but THERE!! I got the Mary Maxim catalog and there are the COOLEST afghans of tapestry crochet and of course the BACON WRAP! One of my friends does the scrumbling, which is right up my alley, artistically.

BUT CROCHET HURTS MY BRAIN~

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/16/2010 10:46:39 AM)

The series covers knitting and crocheting.  I have been all over town for this sucker...gotta love half.com

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/16/2010 10:48:09 AM)

I want the directions for the bacon wrap!  Unless its knitted...

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/16/2010 11:01:38 AM)

The bacon wrap is tapestry crochet! I guess there is a charted pattern for each little bacony square. So you know I will never ever make one ever. But I do admire.

Dnomyar -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/16/2010 12:51:06 PM)

WHAT??? The happy hooker is a knitting book?

MistressLavinia -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/16/2010 1:52:53 PM)

I just passed a place in the city, that had a sign for crocheted blankets for the homeless, I thought how I would probably get into doing that.  I don't know where to begin, I know how to use the other needles and hooks, but not the crochet ones so who knows this might be my new winter hobby.

Believe me, I was laughing like crazy when I first heard about it.  Ebay carries the original Happy Hooker by Xandria Hollander that I read when I was 14.  See what I put in my sig...LOL!

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/16/2010 5:07:18 PM)

I ask for a catalog from Mary Maxin.  I went ahead and checked out the yarn prices.

$8.99 for a simple Bernat skein of funny prints?  I can order the same skein from Bernat for $4.99.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/18/2010 4:38:31 PM)

I am about halfway done with the penguin afghan and it is going to be a big one.  Not as big of the one I finished up in May last year, but big enough for a 6yo boy, (if his sister does not claim it first).

Now I am looking not only for yarns, but some sari cotton cloth to sewing up some tunics and kurtas for my wardrobe.  My tops are a bit too short.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/19/2010 4:43:06 AM)

Mom is going to shot me...

Herrschners had one of their fab yarn sales going on.  I would cruising through there, just dreaming about projects I can create with the yarn.  Harmless fun.  Until...

There was one yarn with 2 colors left. $.99 per skein.  One is a rose color, another in a blue shade.  I debated with myself and decided to go for it.

I suspect that the yarn is coming on Friday or Monday.

I cannot help it if I cannot pass up a good steal...err, I mean deal.

fluffypet61 -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/20/2010 5:13:33 PM)

i just remembered to renew the knitting books i borrowed from the library.  The book about people who knit too much is funny but true.

Some examples:
You know you knit too much when ... You cite the fact that knitting burns about 90 calories an hour.

You know you knit too much when ... You put your computer keyboard on the floor while reading your daily e-mails so you can hit the spacebar with your toe to scroll through them while knitting.

You know you knit too much when ... You think that a stitch or row counter you could work with your feet is a really brilliant idea.
