LOL!!  Sounds like me except it is crocheting.

Mom found the cache of yarn that is coming in.  She is a bit upset, but I have not reveal what the grand finale is.  She is pulling the financial reins tighter now (so I can save up for Christmas *Yule for me*).  If my brother pays me $100 each month, he can have the loan I gave him last year paid off inside 3 years.

Got to excuse me...I am working on Lizard's room so I can hang up clothes that we brought yesterday.  I want to get to my butterflies afghan (if J takes it, its a bug afghan).

ETA:  While I was shopping at Walmart, I bypass the clearance yarn.  I am so proud of myself, but the yarn goddess is hollering to go back and get them.  I just don't have the funds (or duffel space).

ETAx2:  Fluffy I brought 2 or 3 projects with me...I am totally addicted to working with yarn.

I went to visit a friend last week to help her with deciphering the crochet book. I brought her the Happy Hooker book so she can mess with it. I Do remember how to do single crochet!! After one crappy looking row (becauseDUH I brought inelastic cotton yarn) I produced stiches that looked just like the picture. [:)] This pleases me, because I have that Vogue To Go Crocheted Hats book and there are several hats I want to make.

Someday. [;)]

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/22/2010 11:27:49 AM)

Which reminds me....

I still have 2 magazine boxes full of old magazines.  There is a certain pattern that I use for a cable hat.  I should dig that up and make it a PDF file.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/23/2010 5:50:32 PM)

I am wondering how Grandma put up with me while learning to crochet.   She had to have a lot of patience.

I am trying to teach Lizard how to crochet.  She cannot do a slip knot and a chain stitch.  I only have patience on some things, especially on elevators.  I have to have my mind committed but with Lizard, I can't.

got to get some water...

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/25/2010 2:29:39 PM)

Now that the hoodie is DONE (made the hood bigger, thank heavens) fits, and is ready for Cooler Weather, I need another distraction from what I should be doing... so I just hauled up that bag of granny squares.

I don't know WHY I thought I only had a few of the things, I have 176 3 x 3 squares! My problem is, I do not want to just sew them together, I want to do something ELSE, like a chain stitch deal and have little motifs in the middle of the sets of squares. Because I cannot do anything the easy way, ever. I have looked on the internets... and I stopped doing that. Can anyone recommend a good granny square book? I have the picture in my head of what I want, I only need the HOW part. And some black Vanna's Choice.

Yes, I should just go to Joann and look at what they have, but I am trying to avoid that.

ETA: Ravelry. Has like over 14K hits for "granny square". 26 pgs in and nothing like what I want to do. The thing is, whoever made these squares (they are from an estate sale) crocheted them very firmly so there is no drape. I need to make a connection that is just as firm, so will be using a smaller hook than normal, but I don't want it to be all wacky and hard to handle when it's done. Maybe I should ponder other options.

Pondering is good.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/25/2010 3:02:17 PM)

I have not even count the ones I got hidden in the closet...they are in 4 grocery bags is all I know and that they are done.  Just have to think what XxY they are.

I have a crabby kids...

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/25/2010 3:04:23 PM)

She is a teenager. They are practicing for menopause but they don't know it yet!!

Now I am back to sewing them all on a diagonal so that it will be DONE. I have some misc ones that will be little purses and such. MUST think ETSY and xmas holidays!

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/25/2010 3:31:25 PM)

There is a way to use the motifs...I made up a small amount (7-10) knotted them at one corner and crochet them in a pattern that was rippled on both sides.  Mom uses that afghan when we have a gnarly winter forecast.

Lizard is making up Kandi brackets for her friends.  She admits that she is a raver...but does not do drugs or alcohol, she is there to have fun...

She just about got the slip knot and chain stitch going...she just does the chain too tight.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/25/2010 7:30:23 PM)

I have decided to sew them together on the diagonal so I will have zigzaggy edge and no need to crochet a whole edge.

I am a genius! [;)]

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/26/2010 6:39:57 AM)

How you know that you are addicted to crochet and knitting...

You dream of the skill and you're hunting down a certain pattern... (GUILTY)

fluffypet61 -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/26/2010 8:13:47 AM)

JoAnn's is having an on-line sale on yarn - 30% off everything.  Free shipping if your order is over $35.  Master let me order the recycled cotton i need for Christmas hoodies for three grands.

ps - i've never made a hoodie before.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/26/2010 8:18:36 AM)

You will love the hoodies, Fluffy!!

The granny squares are all laid out on the upstairs landing, ready to sew!! THEN it is time to do the SOCK MONKEY baby gift.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/26/2010 11:25:53 AM)

Mom is going to donate the use of her king side bed for I can get the granny squares get figure out.

I was about to raise unholy hell because I could not find my thread hooks.  Crisis adverted.

Finished one panel of the butterflies afghan.  Getting ready for the final panel unless I fall asleep again.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/27/2010 8:41:41 AM)

Sewing those squares together? TIME CONSUMING!!

Can you believe that I do not have any Koigu sock yarn in the right colours for the sock monkey? Though the one I did was actually on sportweight yarn that the gal sent me (she who owns the sock monkey). And I know I looked at the pattern and said WTF? Who makes a sock monkey on size 1 needles? But I was so hoping to use STASH yanno? Cottons, I am sure I have something in the cottons...

I am very proud that I got to make use of my newly organized stash. [:)]

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/27/2010 8:53:09 AM)

Mom told me that I got a letter from Herrschners yesterday...it was a forgotten order of name labels (item was made by Nichole Kidman. (example))

One of the neighbors here saw the first panel of the butterflies and wants one of the peace sign for her daughter.  I was going to ask if someone seen such a critter but someone beat me to the question.  I got an idea on how to do one...

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/27/2010 1:12:14 PM)

Hehehe...I am totally evil...

I will do it up like a granny square and there will be plenty of yarn for it.  I just need to know how much year I have to get (three skeins each color?) Purple and silver are the colors.

When Lizard gets home, I want to take her with me to reach the higher yarns.  I will bribe her with cereal (she likes Special K with chocolate).

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/27/2010 3:20:57 PM)

Fluffy, on the yarn sale, what is the final date on it?

that's pretty much what I was thinking about my mother recently...

she told me about 20 years ago that she had considered one day to become a crafts teacher at school.......

...considering she has nil patience as well as nil understanding of how to encourage and support people I am happy for all those students who would have to had to put up with her if she would have gone that road of workforce [8|]

I still don't have the time to do some knitting or crocheting and if it is really going to happen now to move then this will be even further down the line [&o]
