Dnomyar -> RE: Needles and Hooks (2/8/2011 10:43:37 AM)

Ok the gift card from WalMart was the clincher. I didnt think that women ever got confused.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (2/8/2011 10:52:18 AM)

Try making a 16yo unconfused.  She saw a nice bustier at Walmart yesterday and wants it.  Told her that her father will have a heart attack as it is because he is confused at what she is wearing.

That poor man...he is now realizing that raising a teenager is not what its cracked up to be (he is begging me to sit down and talk to her.  I rather talk to a burning bush for answers)

Dnomyar -> RE: Needles and Hooks (2/8/2011 3:03:50 PM)

I would give you a bush to burn but mine are all buried under the snow.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (2/18/2011 2:17:28 AM)

Here I am, posting in the dark.

I leave in a few hours to go back home.

I want a chocolate or hut fudge milkshake from Sonic...

I want to sleep in my own bed...at least I have room to spread out.

This is the afghan/throw that I am making for J for his birthday next week.

Now...if everyone just leave me alone (with the exception of someone dating me, but then I don't really date), I can get it done.

Phoenixpower -> RE: Needles and Hooks (2/22/2011 6:17:57 PM)

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (2/25/2011 9:39:08 AM)

Tis time for a hunt.

I am looking for a S hook (35 mm) because someone here *coughWyldhartcough* has her hands on one and that makes me jealous.

Does anyone know I can get one?  I have done Herrschners and Annie Attics.  I am lost right now...

Ohh..and a broomstick for making lace with...and it has to be wooden and smooth.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (2/25/2011 11:25:09 AM)

Found the hook at Hancock fabrics.  I jsut order it next week, unless ordering from ebay is better.

MstrDouglas -> RE: Needles and Hooks (2/25/2011 11:54:09 AM)

Try the local Menards or Lowes for the broom stick....or better yet, look in the lumber section at the wooden dowels, many different sizes and you can have them cut for length, or even a piece of PVC pipe.
I have found that some of the best supply places for crafts needs, or life style needs are the local "mom and pop" type of hardware stores or the local farmers supply store, (TSC), or the already mentioned Menards or Lowes.

I actually prefer my P hook, as it is perfect for the thick yarns that I love so much! [:)]

Someone get me up of the floor...my legs are too weak and my ribs are hurting from laughing too hard.

LillyBoPeep -> RE: Needles and Hooks (2/25/2011 2:02:29 PM)

wow wow wow -- i thought this was about something else, too =p

i'm teaching my mom to crochet, which is actually really fun. ^_^
i'm not a super awesome crocheter and only know a few stitches but i really love it.
i love fiber arts in general -- knitting and tatting, too.
tatting just mystifies me really.

have i seen S-hooks at Michaels? i think i have ... but i may be wrong.
i like big chunky yarns, but most of what i do is with a J hook; i like variegated/chunky yarns and the J actually works really well for me. this crocheting bags thing sounds ridiculously fun. who doesn't love bags???

weee!

as an aside -- did anyone ever use Bernat Max? i fell madly in love with that yarn (makes great hair falls for tribal belly dancers, too =p kinda like colinette but cheaper)  but it was discontinued about two years ago... sooooo sad. i keep trying to find little bits of it and buy it whenever i see it at thrift stores. =p

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (2/25/2011 2:08:12 PM)

They got some on Ebay..go get it...LOL!

LillyBoPeep -> RE: Needles and Hooks (2/25/2011 2:08:57 PM)

god damn it!!!!! [:-]

KMsAngel -> RE: Needles and Hooks (2/25/2011 2:11:25 PM)

needle-wise (quilting), i'd forgotten the resources that being poor-ish allows you to find, dig out, discover and thrill to!

not having enough ready dosh to splash out on fabric at $22/metre (median price over here), i'm back to looking through markets, 2nd hand shops, curtain shops! (they almost give away their sample books) - there's great people and great stories when you have to expend a bit of effort for your fix [:D]

the baby blanket quilt top is half done.

LillyBoPeep -> RE: Needles and Hooks (2/25/2011 2:18:48 PM)

$22/meter? a meter's like 39 inches; pretty close to a yard, right?
sheeeeesh... that's high
and i think the AUD is worth a smidge more than the USD now? =p

KMsAngel -> RE: Needles and Hooks (2/25/2011 2:32:31 PM)

metre's about a yard, yes.

doesn't matter if it's worth the same or not, we import the VAST majority of our fabric from the states. tarriff's, etc, all push the price right up to ridiculous. i tend to stock up on a few hundred dollars worth of fabric and tools whenever i go over [8D]

right now, i stock up on cotton dresses with long skirts - can get a lot of fabric out of that for just a few dollars. and while we're waiting to see what sex the baby is, i grab gorgeous cotton baby shirts/dresses for baby quilts whilst at garage sales. fits in with my recycle, reuse philosophy too, thank goodness [;)]

LillyBoPeep -> RE: Needles and Hooks (2/25/2011 2:47:19 PM)

ahhh i see, i see -- cripes.
next time when i'm buying $10/yd fabric, i won't complain. =p

scavenging big old thrift store dresses is a great way to get fabric, i agree! i get a lot of my dance costume fabric that way.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (2/25/2011 3:22:36 PM)

Also check out the remnants of fabrics at walmart and other stores.  I usually get them if I have a pattern that needs working (crazy quilting).
