oh geez....a knitting forum. I am screwed.
fluffy, I got some ribbon yarn awhile back and I made scarves from some of it. It was very pretty, lots of colors in it. I also made chemo caps for a friend who lost her hair and needed something to cover her head in the summer. Lighter than wool, they let the air in but were pretty enough to wear. If you google chemo caps there are a bunch of patterns.
Best to all in the new year!

I am screwed in the aspect that I don't understand the instructions at the beginning of the mice I am knitting [>:] I understand all the small parts needed for it but not that damn start of it which is the main body [>:] anyhow I have an idea how to do it now instead and hope thats going to work out [&:]

ordered last night filling material and needles on ebay, to be able to stitch the items together rather sooner than later, so if my plan with the mainbody works out today then I might have the first finished during this week...hopefully...

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (1/7/2011 4:33:27 AM)

Remind me to pick up 2 shades of green and some filling so I can crochet up a Cthulhu for Lizard or one of the kids (yes, I have a sick humor).  I need to finish up a penguin for niece H before her b'day on the 20th.

All agreeing that a Cthulhu is perfect for a 16 yo girl who has a sick humor as well, raise your needles and hooks.

Phoenixpower -> RE: Needles and Hooks (1/7/2011 7:10:59 AM)

Sorry but I am not familiar with Cthulhu...[&:]

I decided now to try to continue to knit that damn mouse aod hope to get the mystery from the other mouse solved when I go home, and start to crochet a bag for when I am out and about...because I have 5 balls of wool which I like a lot and which would be perfect for my throwover for my bed, however, that brand appears not to have a colour which I would like to use as the main colour of that throwover-to-be...so I decided to crochet a bag with them, as I don't think it would fit well with other wool I have for that planned throw over or my ex's calendar...

Education time...*WEG*

There was an author by the name of H P Lovecraft, writing short stories about a parallel reality where millenniums ago, there were beings who were too horrific to describe.  One creature, with a squid or octopus for a head, was the high priest Cthulhu.  The rest of the race was known as the Elder Gods or Ones, depending on how much you can read the short stories while drinking.  Cthulhu is sleeping until the stars are just right and he will emerge, devouring his followers, waiting for the lost city to come up from the sea.  After causing a ruckus, the stars go  back to their normal state and Cthulhu returns to his sleep, experiencing heart burn from the followers buffet.

I suggest rent out Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness for the shear campiness.  Do Lovecraft on IMDB and some more shows will pop up.

i'm knitting a sweater for one of my adult daughters - a size small.  The main part is done and now i am doing the sleeves.

Does anyone know how to adjust the pattern to make a child's sweater from an adult pattern?  i'd like to make one for a grand sized 9-10.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (1/7/2011 8:20:17 PM)

When I do baby afghans, I use a small hook and a lighter weight of material.  That is how I downgrade the baby pattern from an adult pattern.

fluffypet61 -> RE: Needles and Hooks (1/10/2011 5:09:19 PM)

i thought about finding a child sweater pattern with set in sleeves and change it to do the collar like the adult one.  So far my search has turned up children'a sweaters with raglan sleeves and drop shoulder sleeves.  So now what?

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Needles and Hooks (1/10/2011 5:55:11 PM)

Knitting is math. Get a set of correct measurements, make a gauge pice, and reduce/expand your pattern as needed. It's a pain, kind of, but also fun. Don't forget Ravelry there is a lot of stuff on there.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (1/14/2011 7:45:31 AM)

I got 3 projects going the same time.

A man's cap/hat, the penguin, and the peace sign.  (I am doing the peace sign an other way *Thanks Mom*)

Meanwhile, I am sick.  I am also trying to see why my student loans have been 'kicked back' to Dept.of Education.  I was going to make banana bread, but we have no shortening.  Mom is at the doctors' office, getting her monthly shot and popping.  Just get me some red hip tea and I will be happy.

fluffypet61 -> RE: Needles and Hooks (1/18/2011 9:53:08 AM)

i solved my problem of finding a child's pattern.  i'm using the drop sleeve sweater and changing the neckline to look like the adult shawl collar.

i'll let you know how it works out.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Needles and Hooks (1/18/2011 10:10:23 AM)

Excellent! I touch yyarn a lot, but nothing is actually cast on...

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (1/19/2011 11:35:37 AM)

I am working on the belly of the penguin now...this project is about complete.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (1/21/2011 4:33:21 PM)

ARGH!!!

This project is giving me problems.  I have to change the beak before I stitch it on the bird.

Besides...we had ice on the deck.  Maybe putting the sealant was a bad idea...

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (1/23/2011 11:20:09 AM)

Okay...I have to lay the afghan out so I can pin the belly on the penguin before stitching it on.  The beak is giving me trouble still.

I take a bottle of mead now...something to ease the headache...

0ldhen -> RE: Needles and Hooks (1/23/2011 11:27:56 AM)

Has anybody here tried the crocheting you do with long skinny pieces of material instead of yarn? I got a kit at a yard sale to make a purse using this technique. Thinking about doing after i get done embroidering a baby blanket I am working on for a friends grandbaby that is on the way.

Just wondering if anyone has tried it and how well it worked or if there are any tips for doing this type of thing.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (1/23/2011 2:11:21 PM)

I have heard of it, but alas, I have no experience dealing with it.

0ldhen -> RE: Needles and Hooks (1/23/2011 3:37:26 PM)

It actually looks easier to handle than yard but I wonder how tidy it will appear when done. Thank you though.
