ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (6/21/2010 8:49:49 PM)

Hib, I ordered the pattern and looking over some on the yarns at Herrschnerrs.

Mom has not kill me yet.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (6/24/2010 5:10:43 AM)

I got crosshairs trained on me...

I just ordered the stainless steel hooks for lace hooking and snowflakes. Got them for a steal (pun inteaned) at $10 at Herrschoners. Walmart was selling 2-6 sized hooks at $5. Most of the patterns I use calls for size 7.

I also borrowed..err...I mean steal some boxes to pin the snowflakes to for shaping.

DarlingSavage -> RE: Needles and Hooks (6/24/2010 5:34:29 AM)

My grandmother and mother have millions upon millions of those snowflakes.  I just took the ones they gave me rather than make any of my own.  I prefer to make hats.  I've had an idea for a lace hat that I think I saw on some chick in a movie some time ago that I think would be adorable.  Kind of a Juliette cap.  I wish those hats weren't so labor intensive, I could probably make some money off them.  I get tons of complements on them.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Needles and Hooks (6/24/2010 9:00:04 AM)

I used to sell my hats back in the day when I did street fairs. They sold, of course. As long as you don't count labor as value I made money! [8|] I love making hats, though.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (6/24/2010 11:29:56 AM)

Hib, I already got the pattern for the shrug. I cannot order any yarn until next week or so. Bills, you know...

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Needles and Hooks (6/25/2010 8:05:36 AM)

Oh, Shar I figured out how to make the Kirra coat fit me better! Though I am still making the Tilda hoodie with the Origami, the fabric is AWESOME. Math. Do I want to fuss with the calculations for moving the placement of the increases? Not right now I don't! But at least I solved the problem, that I need a row of double increases across the BACK to begin with, and add more fabric there.

Do I have 2000yds of any one yarn in the right weight? No, of course not. That would be against the Rules O'Stash, now wouldn't it?

The INVENTORY project is working well, though. I have the boxes all nicely sorted according to fiber, pretty much, and all tallied in the BOOK with snippets of yarn to refer to. Plus the Project Bags.

I always marvel at folks who have "nothing to do"! [8D]

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (6/25/2010 8:22:18 AM)

yesterday, mom and I went through some magzagines based on cooking. I need to find a product key so I can keey my office that was pre-instelled on the computer.

After this project, I will be studying how to use the scanner...oh, what joy.

BTW, there is a correction to the shrug. I am glad they included it on the instructions.

SHIT!! The hooks are going to Austin! I got Lizard to decline acceptance of them so they can go back to the store and send them to the right address.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Needles and Hooks (6/25/2010 8:27:23 AM)

The Kirra Crochet was TOTALLY different, there was a whole page that was a rewrite included with the book. A correction for every pattern on the Berroco website!

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (6/25/2010 8:33:30 AM)

See, Mom...I was not crazy. Just banging my head on the wall...

A little hard to tell from the scroller.

fluffypet61 -> RE: Needles and Hooks (6/28/2010 12:09:45 PM)

Does anyone know how to make a pocket on a knitting project?
i'd like to knit it on rather than just knitting a square and sewing it on.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (6/28/2010 12:20:20 PM)

Don't ask me...I am good with the hook...

Perhaps knit the pocket and use a whiplash stitch to finish it up.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Needles and Hooks (6/28/2010 12:26:24 PM)

I do know how to make a pocket! Many ways! But there is a good book that the library might have, http://www.amazon.com/Vogue-Knitting-Ultimate-Book/dp/193154316X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1277753034&sr=1-1 Vogue the Ultimate Knitting Book, a TOTALLY worthwhile purchase, great photos of how to do all manner of things.

You can put stiches on a holder, like a giant buttonhole, and knit the pocket from the live stitches in the row above, and sew to the front
You can do the buttonhole thing and make a two-sided pouch pocket
You can do the whole sweater and pick OUT the stitches to make the pocket from the new live stitches....

All depends on the final result!

fluffypet61 -> RE: Needles and Hooks (6/28/2010 3:56:09 PM)

Thanks!  i'll check out the book.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Needles and Hooks (6/28/2010 8:01:16 PM)

OOH I just got a book of various designs for the rigid heddle loom!! I am so pleased with it, it's full of coolness for fabric design. It also makes me wish that I had a teeny lap loom... but THAT WILL NOT HAPPEN I will be virtuous. Because I spent my monies on toys.

Anyway! I did the whole back of the hoodie and am now doing the sleeves. LOVE the fabric! HATE being a fat girl. Srsly. I know that truly, between the drugs, my low energy, etc I will never ever again be the solidly packed powerhouse that I was a mere 15 years ago. I should just forget alllll about it and get used to it. I am still sad.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (6/29/2010 3:58:01 AM)

I know how you feel, Hib.  There are times I am the queen of yarns and then I refuse to touch them.  I am waiting like crazy for the hooks to come in.  I got sites to print up, my cache of magzagine to scan into the computer and flakes to make.  I got scores of colored thread to work with.  In other words...funky snowflakes!

Showed mom some flakes on the site and she loves the colors.  Trick is...they are in the shed that has lots of boxes in it (and a few red wasps).

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Needles and Hooks (6/30/2010 8:31:46 AM)

I am determined to bump this thread until PTS comes back to post on it!!!

I am making the hoodie sleeves longer, pondering putting a zipper up the front, and maybe adding pockets. The fronts are garter stitch on the edge, and I have issues with keeping the corners all nice and 90 degree angles.. and this is mostly acrylic yarn so blocking will be useless... but I am looking forward to wearing it already!

www.knitpicks.com is having their book sale, Fluffy, if you wanna shop non-Amazon! Though me, I go with Amazon for that super saver shipping...

fluffypet61 -> RE: Needles and Hooks (6/30/2010 5:06:31 PM)

When i go to Amazon i check the used books.  Vogue the Ultimate Knitting Book - sells used for about $17.  (Reg. $38.95, Knit Picks $23.37)

But Master Rich wants me to use the library whenever possible.
