piratecommander -> RE: Fake Irish (2/27/2009 1:26:02 AM)

Your schwarz is strong,I will proceed directly (once I find a direct route amongst all of these fences), mind you, I suppose most civilians here need special training to negociate a fence? [;)] to sample this ethnic delicacy.

(edited to have the word strong right, because it is an important word)

scifi1133 -> RE: Fake Irish (2/27/2009 1:32:44 AM)

from what I can tell down there most of the civilians just run their pick up trucks through those fences lmao.

piratecommander -> RE: Fake Irish (2/27/2009 1:37:04 AM)

Back to topic ... razorwire fences leave scars if you're not British ..... errrrm, I mean careful ...[sm=evil.gif]

In 1798 a Protestant man ... Theobald Wolfe Tone, led the rebellion, his grave is a much visited place, he denied the English crown by taking his own life, rather than allow it his execution ... nothing Catholic or indeed fake about the man

scifi1133 -> RE: Fake Irish (2/27/2009 1:42:48 AM)

Indeed. My grandmother has a print of the man hanging in the living room.

piratecommander -> RE: Fake Irish (2/27/2009 1:52:04 AM)

He is never forgotten, and neither is James Connoly, also, before being shot in a chair because he was beaten so badly he could not stand, would on the standards given here,have been considered ... "fake Irish"

Well ... someone had to pose this argument ... and I'm pleased to do the right thing ... I have no greater pride when called upon to (argue) (stand up an be counted) defend our tribes and our culture.

Being Scottish, I have always envyed the Irish...it's tough to get too excited about inventing plaid.

That's an interesting take on it, considering the long list of Scottish inventions that have been taken on board the world over; it utterly dwarfs Irish achievements.

Ahhhhhh.........so now it boils down to comparing who's better a Scotsman or and Irishman? Bloody interesting.

As a Scot living in the Scottish capital that had a long term relationship with a submissive from Northern Ireland and friends from Southern Ireland .Wales and England(and indeed lived in Oxford for 3 years) I can confirm we are as fucked up and as great as each other.

To the OP .... I asked my then submissive what the most striking thing she had noticed since the peace talks kicked in and she replied that "it was weird not hearing the helicopter patrols overhead."A strange reply to you and i perhaps but until you stop reading books and looking at pictures and really start to see the place and smell the streets id recommend tucking your bigotry away and leave it to the people walking the streets of NI that have had their friends blown up or maimed in the Troubles.(both Catholic and Prodestant)
National pride is a great thing but misused its a tool for hatred

Be well

HotFaerieMama -> RE: Fake Irish (2/27/2009 9:25:36 AM)

this thread has been interesting...

Rainfire -> RE: Fake Irish (2/27/2009 10:26:46 AM)

I'm a Celtic mutt.... One side of the family claims Irish ancestry, the other side claims Scottish ancestry and my personal research has turned up the fact that a many-times great grandfather came from a little coastal town in Wales, adding some Welsh into the family. I hate all the violence but considering my own family history, I understand it.

As for the family tartan, I know the pattern but I don't wear it. I always get the feeling that I need "permission" somehow... [&:]

Yanno Rain, my gggg grand dad was from Donegal Bay, his wife was from County Tipperary. So my ancestry has mix of Northern and Southern Irish. Meh...the hatred In Ireland now is a sad state of affairs but hell hasn't frozen over to allow that bother my sense of having proud Irish heritage. Oh yea....seems my great great grandma was a bonnie lass from Scotland.

Not really. As an Englishman, I'm utterly indifferent to those two wayward tribes. In actual fact, I'm aware of their existence purely because half of them live in my country.

I'm merely stating a fact that Scotland has punched well above its weight in the last 350 years. Feel free to google a list of Scottish achievements - for a nation of 5 million people, you'd be amazed.

That's quite an interesting use of words, "wayward tribes!"  Though if one looks at it, much of the human race are wayward themselves.

rest assured..Hadrians wall has failed miserably from the north side also

FullCircle -> RE: Fake Irish (2/27/2009 3:56:20 PM)

The worst indictment of the Scottish is the fact that wall ever stopped them, was it always not that short or were Scottish ancestors a bunch of midgets?

Damnit those English have built a garden wall we'll never get in now. We'll never be able to force them to watch curling in the Olympics.

I'd say Englishness is a fairly unique value system, which renders the whole 'Germanic' argument redundant.

Germany is a great place to visit; I've spent some time there. The English and the Germans have some marked differences, however.

piratecommander -> RE: Fake Irish (2/27/2009 4:13:16 PM)

That wall was built by the Romans,not the English (... who love medals so they watch the Scot's curling team with pride when it's winning medals for "Team GB" [;)] )
